Palace are taking the perverble Pee
What's the benefit to Brentford, may as well keep him playing here. Then in January if his good form continues we could be well.up.in the league and others may come in for him

A loan with a guaranteed to buy is fairly common these days especially abroad.

It's not abroad, and it's not how we will do business. We will want him gone and a guaranteed amount received whilst he is at "peak value".

If it's a commitment to buy at X (which we find acceptable), then it's perfectly feasible for us 🤷‍♂️

That said...

I have just read that palace want him on loan for this season with a view to buy next season. What is that all about/? Bloody piss take.
There is so much guesswork, untruth and planted stories out there that you simply can't take it all too seriously :)

Then it's a sale. Not a loan.
All depends how it's set up - people get over-excited about some of the words. But some of the press has mentioned an "obligation to buy" - no issue for us, then.

He’s going to go very late in the window ....Chelsea and Arsenal (his preferred choices) would have come in for him by now if they were serious. He’ll stall on a Palace of West Ham but reality seems to be that this is where he will end up... these clubs won’t want to pay the fee we want at the moment but will likely feel differently when they start to panic as the window closes.

A loan with a put option to sell should give us an extra year for FFP compared to selling in the same year as Watkins - or am I wrong?

Didn't we sell Woodsy to Stoke in the same way?

Plus, we could build in a clause to sell him for more if he scores a certain number of goals etc in the Prem.

Sounds like a win win to me!

We sold Woodsy to Stoke that was because it happened in the loan window, but not the transfer window.

Bringing money in would alleviate FFP constraints. Besides, what with the pandemic, it's been cancelled for this season with the window extended from 3 to 4 seasons.

Technically we did sell Woods in the same way but then that was because the paying window had closed whilst the loan window was still open - something I think has changed since then.
It was exploited by teams who could still sell although the window was closed.

I'm afraid if we fall for Palaces suggestion,we are taking a big step back to the old days when Brentford were a soft touch. Not the image we have been projecting in recent times.

It might be found under Alan Nixon’s load of b***ock*s stories. Although amazingly I don’t think this came from him.
Well it is unlikely to be Arsenal - they cannot fit in the wide players they have. Pepe, Neilson and Saka cannot get in the side.

If Benrahma did get loaned out for the season, would he still be on his Brentford salary or a higher rate in keeping with what he'd expect in the Premier League at his foster club?

FFP isn't considered this year and is assessed over 4 years (not 3) next year with consideration to any losses resulted from covid

Ha, good point. Probably his bees salary. A savvy agent would eventually make up most of any difference in the signing-on bonus though...

It may be Kosha. If buying Benrhama for £25 million this Summer puts them in breach of FFP then the alternative would be to loan him for a year and pay for him next summer.

Although I seem to recall Noades buying Leo Fortune West purely to troll Cardiff who wanted him. High on the list of worst Bees forwards. If I remember right, after he left the worst player in training had to wear an “I’ve had a Leo” bib next session.
Not the worst forward I have seen in a Bees shirt.

An Algerian friend messaged that he was off to Palace, 3 year deal at around £23 million.

Everyone from Algeria is on our facebook page aren't they?
Demanding we sell him, first to Chelsea, then Arsenal, then Aston Villa....
Now Crystal Palace.
Demanding to know why he is not playing in games, even the B team fixtures!!!

Ha,ha. Whatever I say will lambasted by some on here. So, here goes: apparently a friend of Benrahma and I’m fully aware it could be bs.
No worries - there's definitely been some noise. It's just tricky to know if it's the same rumour getting passed around and mutated, or if there might be some substance to it... I'd be surprised given they just got Eze, but I was surprised Villa came back to us for Watkins after the Scott Hogan debacle 🤷‍♂️

Woy was quite happy to talk around the possibility after CP’s game last night (SSN)
(I loved Tindall’s suggestion that he and RH should have taken the next pens in the shootout, too!)
Normally respectful re other clubs and players speculation, but said something like ‘If Brentford are looking to sell, we’ll talk’
Something is happening....

I think we are look for someone to open their wallet rather than sitting back waiting to have our pockets picked

Guardian reporting that Palace are selling Sorloth to release funds to buy Benrahma;
Pertinent part seems to be

" That could accelerate Palace’s attempt to sign Benrahma, who is understood to be available for about £25m and has not featured for Brentford this season. Palace have held talks with his representatives over recent days but have so far been unwilling to match the Algeria forward’s valuation. "

This is interesting though. Sorloth (ex-Mitjyland of course) appears to be going for £20m and I read that Palace are set to receive £7m of that which i didn't quite understand. Where is the other £13m going - is there some incentive that makes a good deal for Sorloth a sweetener to reduce the Benrahma price?

This appears in today’s Guardian and seems to explain what is happening......

Crystal Palace have agreed to sell the striker Alexander Sørloth to RB Leipzig and are hoping to use the proceeds to fund a move for Brentford’s Saïd Benrahma.

Palace are splitting the £20m they will receive for Sørloth equally with Trabzonspor, where the Norway international was due to spend a second full season on loan with an option for a permanent transfer.

The transfer was complicated by the option in his loan that enabled Trabzonspor to purchase him for £5.5m next summer if he featured in more than 50% of their matches.

Negotiations involving Palace and Trabzonspor have been ongoing for weeks but an agreement to split the fee has been reached, and Sørloth is expected to complete his move before the weekend.

It will be interesting if we reach a cut off point where both the club and player say, OK, things aren't panning out as expected, I'm gonna commit another season to Brentford and he starts to feature again.
It's beginning to look that way. If he stays it should stimulate him to show peak form if he wants away in January. However there could be a last minute scramble as clubs might be trying to avoid a bidding competition hoping for a cut price bargain. Little do they know.

Remember that similar happened last year, with an Instagram post on deadline day revealing that he was staying and taking the number 10 shirt...

"Only" three more league games before the deadline... So it's not ideal, but I can see it running till then...
