I wanted to put a message somewhere where it’ll be forever lasting. Facebook isn’t for me but feel this place is where she belongs as she was a Bee..........remembering her as she was.
Sandra was born Down syndrome. It was a time when it was thought it was for the best that she’d be put with other babies with this handicap into homes. My mum and my Nan said “NO.......”
She was the eldest of three siblings. She will always be my big sister. Always.
She faced up to many things in her life; stares, micky taking, put downs etc etc. But she had someone - well two of us - who stood up for her, my sister and me. Thing is, she didn’t give a damn!!
She was the most loving young woman anyone could ever wish to meet. Full of life. Gave everything she could to anyone she ever met. Intelligent. Innocent. Bright. Vivacious. Caring. Funny. Beautiful. The lot.
She went to GP on several occasions. Loved her sports. All sports. Especially horse racing. She always picked the winner........well, after the race was won that is!!
She was good friends with Anthony Talbot, the young lad who tends to our pitch. They were best of friends......
When I’d come home from football, she’d be waiting to tell me the result!! Win, lose or draw. Thanks Sandra!!
She loved her music. She had crap taste though!! Cliff Richard, Westlife, Boyzone, etc dear me!! Every time we would go to one of the charity raising discos, she would be up on the dance floor from the minute we walked in to the minute the DJ switched off. You’d always know where Sandra was........
Her sixty short years on this planet were the best years anyone could ever wish for.
However, the last year was the toughest. Over the years she had her own room downstairs, at home, where she watched her own tv. Her own shows. She’d sing along, shout out answers in quiz shows, dance to strictly etc. Then, about 12 months ago, she suddenly stopped and went to sit in the same room as mum and dad. She knew something wasn’t right. Something was disturbing her. What?
We realised it was the onset of dementia. This bright independent woman was stopped in her tracks. Now, she was becoming withdrawn, not being her extrovert self. Not sure of where things were. Where to put things. Very sad to see.
Four months ago, she got a chest infection. That’s where her time here was starting to come to a close. Back and forth from hospital. Stronger meds were given. But she couldn’t beat it. She tried to but couldn’t. She was frail. However, she still had some fight within her. She wouldn’t go. Not yet......
Today, at 10:30am, her fight was over. It was too much for her body to cope with.
After 60 years, my sister - my beautiful sister - was gone. She’ll always be in my heart. Always be in my head. Always be waiting by the door to tell me the score.
“We lost 2-0.” “We won 3-1!” “Two two.”
Sandra Louise Briers.
RIP
Love you always.......
