Looks like someone flew a drone helicopter over the pitch with a banner showing an Albanian flag over a map of Kosovo. Play stops, peeved serbian players pulls the banner down, Albanian players go mental. Ref takes player off the pitch and play is suspended.

So WW1 started 100 years ago in The Balkans, we don't seem to have gone to far forward do we? They still all hate each other.

More importantly what is happening with my bet, I had a double of Scotland to draw and Serbia to win which is just pending in my William Hill account at the moment.

I'm no expert, but what happens in horse racing, when the horse you bet on is a non runner?

Money back?

It will be money back plus some for getting the Scotland result right, but I think the drone has thoroughly confused the online account.

UEFA made all the effort to make sure Ukrainian and Russian teams did not meet

Why not seperate these 2 as well ??

Time to ban Serbia from major tournaments until they can control their fans. A regular occurrence sadly.

My thought as well. They even separate Spain and Gibraltar.

Scenes reminded me of the Dinamo Zagreb-Red Star game in 1990. Lets hope the situation doesnt escalate like it did then

there's a limit to how long you can do it (or how many times) before it becomes ridiculous. i remember reading up on this a while back, as i thought England and Ireland were kept apart for a while (after the 1992 friendly). actually i think it was surprise at two other teams playing each other - maybe Serbia and Croatia - that got me on to it. i can't find the bloody piece now but it said that there only three such deals at that moment - i think it was Russia-Georgia, Azerbaijan-Armenia and Spain-Gibraltar. i'm not surprised Russia-Ukraine was added though...

there is a general hope, though, that sport can be a unifying factor, and actually improve the relations. obviously this one has gone a bit wrong though....

really hard to see how they can get a rematch on. there'll be a lot of scrutiny around it, and the game in Albania.

i'm confused by the whole thing, and a bit irritated that a quick browse of YouTube serves up only awful clips and infantile patriotic comments.

what was the Albanian team's issue? (i.e. why did they make a scene of it when the Serbian player grabbed the flag?) - that's really the starting point for where the match fell apart. but also, then, why did the Serbian bench (it looks like) rush on and get involved? it looks like they escalated it really quickly and at that point, it's basically 22v11. though i suppose the atmosphere around the stadium had already begun to disintegrate, and that fans were already getting involved...

Having just read through my old Shoot magazine "You Are The Refs", I can confirm that what will happen is this. The game will be restarted at the point where the Surbian player is holding the Albanian flag. He will place it carefully to the side of the pitch and play will recommence with a dropped-ball. :warbs:

I reckon behind closed doors for both games is the likely outcome.

And a closed roof? How you gonna stop the drones? Players started this - not the fans lol :suspect:.

From what I saw, a Surbian player tried to grab the flag and get it off the pitch so they could get on with the game, and a couple of Albanian flare players tried to punch his f****** lights out. So no, I do not beieve. It's a dropped-ball.

the BBC report on it already carries his official denial, so that sounds like more hyped-up nonsense rumours. but in any case, the Albanian PM's visit to Serbia next week, the first time such a high-ranking Albanian has visited Serbia in 70 years, should be interesting

Only because the Surbian player thought the linesman had flagged - until he looked more closely .

Did the drone just fly off after the flag was dislodged? Surely it can't be true the brother of the Albanian prime minister was flying it from inside the stadium.

Where is this Surbia that you speak of?

Perhaps thats why the Albanian players got upset. The protest was aimed at Serbia and the Surbian actions had spoiled it

I studied the break up of Yugoslavia and the years after it at Uni in depth. And for anyone of us to try and understand and explain the bad blood between the nation's in the Balkans would be naive.
There was a lot of wrong doing between all nation's and people's involved. And it goes back hundreds of years between the different ethnic peoples.
