Nice piece on Sergi today. I haven't read all of it yet. Looks good so far.

Gosh! Great read. Didn't realise he was acquainted with such high profile names and still only 24. Never knew he played under Klopp.

Not his best game but I can say that about many of the players. Stick the chance in first half when we were top - I firmly believe we would win that game.

Going off social media (well Brentford related) for a day - already seen some of the pathetic stick he has been getting. I really do despair the OTT reaction.

Started well with a decent early effort that Krul pushed away (his only 'real' save?)
Went downhill for Sergi after that....

Was trending earlier because of our f***ing fans. Good work.

I only hope he gives his head a wobble and re-sets his mentality for the next game - what we don't need is the over emotional trying too hard Sergi of earlier in the season. It was a bad miss and subsequent shabby performance but needs to look forward and not back.

He always seems to be under the microscope. Thought he looked quite dangerous, but made an error for their goal (although it was a few phases of play ahead of them scoring)

His decision making is why he's no longer at Barcelona or Liverpool. Or Norwich.

I love the guy but if we do go up, I don't see him playing a lot.

Talented but injudicious. Like many footballers except the best.

As it did with the whole team in the second half

Really not the lads night tonight.

Started really brightly and who knows what would have happened if he's put that glorious chance in, he seemed to slip and make very poor contact. Yes it was an unnecessary 'hollywood' ball which conceded possession for Buendia's goal but show me a Bees player who didn't make the wrong decision or give possession away this evening. It was a poor goal to give away defensively from many aspects.

It is just a shame his pivotal contributions were ones that cost us dearest, after that rasping shot early on was hoping he would be the catalyst tonight. He just needs to forget it and move on ASAP.

I find the "problem" with Sergi is that he is generally either brilliant or a liability and often nothing in-between. He's more often the former than the latter. He is however not cut out for games when he has something to prove (like last night) as he seems to struggle to contain his emotions and his decision making (which is generally his weak point anyway) goes completely to pot. I love it when he does well and he's a proper Bee, but I'd rather see Fosu in the side as he offers more consistency, rarely wastes the ball and most importantly has a brilliant understanding with Ivan.

It would appear his problems are emotionally based as gets either over frustrated or excited and his decision making goes out the window.

Think both Fosu and Canos are ideal to bring on in the second half when fullbacks (who typically are the least likely to get subbed) tire , which leaves them with a bit more space to exploit.

I think I’d be tempted to start with Roerslev at LB on Saturday with Ghoddos ahead of him but in a Said type role where he can cut in. That way we can have a midfield pairing of Jensen, Janelt and Norgaard.

Good start but as soon as he missed that tap in his game went downhill very fast to the point where I would have subbed him before halftime....awful miss and gave away possession to easily for their goal....poor

F**k me, he had a poor game who didnt last night?

At least hes in the position to score and i for one wont berate a player for trying too hard.

Some still forget the type of injury hes still coming back from and i bet most players the season after a serious knee injury like that wouldnt be pushed to play as many games as Sergi has in such short spells with little recovery.

We should have signed a wide option in Jan. We didnt so we have to put up with Canos who sadly this season has been inconsistent. I will take 3-4 good games with 2-3 average/poor games.

Sergi on 6 goals 4 assists, Bryan M on 4 and 9 with Fosu on 3 and 2 shows where our issues lie.

13 league goals from three wide players is what we would want from one of them. Our threat from out wide has been average at best and thankfully Toney has bagged 25.

If you compare the three players above appearances they are not equal.lasts nites game I found Sergio to be very greedy and not his normal team member attitude the post shot was on but other chances he had time to pass I suppose you could put it down to a bad game but given the importance of the points make it different

Maybe trying too hard to impress against one of his former teams.

Nearly 200 appearances in this league his end product & majority of play is still poor. Not really good enough is it. I’m more surprised when he does something good now tbh. Not to say I don’t have love for sergi but he’s a passenger in a team where’s he’s one of the more experienced in our set up....

He's GOT to stop these shots of his from 900 yards away. The one in the first half from the halfway line (well it might as well have been) should have seen a Red Card from Thomas. Ivan threw his head back at yet another tame effort in the second half.

Love him and all that, but FFS mate!

He isn’t consistently good enough .. great guy but whatever division we are in next season we need more quality in wide areas.

7 goals this season isn't a bad return tbh a lot better than a lot of others in midfield

Your right, BUT how many times has he lost possession or opted to shoot in ridiculous positions when there was a better option. I notice it happens with Sergi much more than anyone else.

More telling would be analysis of how many times he's not seen an immediate option and just thrown a hail mary pass to nothing or walloped a shot at the nearest defender.

Nice guy, bundles of enthusiasm, loves the club, but never better than a back up option for a team chasing promotion from this level.

He usually starts a game with confidence and, if he gets an early goal, will go on and play really well – great stuff. If that doesn't happen, though, his emotions take over and that mists over any decision-making he has. First time strikes from 45 yards, 4 touches when he should have his head up and move the ball quickly and conceding free kicks become the norm. If we have a real alternative, then Frank would be able to change him earlier but our lack of options means he stays on too long.

Exactly it balances out any positives he brings like today when he won the ball back in their half a few times and some decent attacking link up play

Isnt this solved by showing him the video of each game and pointing out the moment he chooses to shoot. Showing the pass options at those moments and in particular where Ivan is and how he could have found him. Eventually he will learn to look and choose shoot or pass options better.
If this is already happening then Sergi needs to improve his assist record

You say he’ll learn. If he could he’d have done that by now. Squad player at best IMHO.

Its tricky his best game was Cardiff away and his second half hattrick but I recall some were wanting him subbed at halftime
He is a threat and worries defences and we dont have great options wide

The simple fact of it is that he not good enough to be starting, but starts because he is apparently more likely to score a goal than Fosu. He has no decision making skills, he just runs or shoots, doesn't play anyone in, holds on to the ball for too long. At least with Fosu you know he will cross the ball or pass the ball around.

I really wish Sergi could become the player that technically he is good enough to become with us, but his entire game is based around shooting from range and hoping it comes off. We have to move heaven and earth in the Summer to ensure we have forwards much better than the current crop (bar Toney ofc)

Very wasteful. His shots were so soft and far too easy for the keeper. I have my suspicion unfortunately his peak has come and gone. We need to find better but wingers are very difficult to find

Not good enough, extremely poor again today. DOFs have to take some blame for not trying to replace Benrahma.
