Showed what we'd been missing when he came on. So much more direct than anyone else in the squad. Has to start the next rest of the season

But you sit there and slate Fosu after putting in 3 MOTM performances. Not saying Canos didn’t improve us today but you certainly have your biases.

Don't we all? I think most would agree on recent form that both should have started, the clever link play of Fosu and more direct threat of Sergi would have given us a better attacking shape IMHO.

Looked very bright today & unlucky not to put us in front on first half. Even though he gave way with thr tactical substitutions nice to see he was one of the first on the pitch celebrating the win.

That amazing tackle from Sergi, saved an almost certain goal. Sergi. Was the b***ocks today, he is playing well and looks really fresh.

Sergi gives us that drive forward that no-one else does in the squad. His first thought is to run at the defence and get a shot in and without Josh we don't really have anyone else who does that. Was v worried early on as they were getting huge amounts of space behind him but he sorted it out and made one superb defensive interception.

Even if you’re a 60+ year time served Bees fan I can categorically state promotion means more to Sergi than it does to you.

He's doing well recently. I think definitely worth his place. End product will click I hope.

I think he's quite suited to wing back. I think he played it against Derby once when we battered them, and he was part of a flowing move for a goal.

A lot of players look drained in recent weeks but he's looked the most energetic and freshest.

He really needs to work on his tracking back and positioning as he left way too much space for them first half but going forward was threatening. At least we have some games now before the play offs to practice it.

His first half tackle was class.

He's got plenty of end product.. 🤷

He has. There have been times recently that it hasn't been there for easier opportunities (today, Norwich, and Birmingham off the top of my head). I'm not saying he's not capable of it (a lot of it is due to luck) but rather my point is that it will come

Yes but the reason he had to scramble across was because he left too much space in the first place. Also for the stanislas chance, that was down to him not tracking back. Something he needs to work on, hopefully it comes.

In the lockdown Cliff Crown phoned my 85 year old dad ( fair play) who has been watching us since the war years and my dad told him that Sergi is his favourite player . Cliff was curious as to why, and the answer was because he loves Brentford like we do and gives it his all. What more can you ask from him? Not perfect, frustrating, but a Bee

Partly understand your point but as a 60+ year man , think we could start a club and let Sergi can join. That goes for any other like minded player , coach etc

I had posted Sergi my MOM yesterday , for his work rate and his tackle on Solanke , saved a goal scoring chance, if he got the challenge wrong yesterdays ref would have given a penalty

Disagree, it was obvious that he was told to play as a more attacking wing back than Roerslev and because of that Smith playing at Right back didn't get forward at all - I think it was a calculated gamble rather than Canos not tracking back. How you can criticise him for the saving tackle he made on Solanke is just daft- it was an excellent bit of defensive play by any metric and not because he was out of position. B'muff in the first half did stretch the play to pull the Centre backs out wide but that was the risk of the system we were playing. If Canos had sat in deep we wouldn't have been the attacking threat we were, he nearly scored twice! His tracking back was just fine.

He just never stops and his frustration at being subbed shows how much he wants to play. Great assist.

This is all very heartening to read but it doesn't address the real question - is it Sergi Caños ("Canyos") or Sergi O'Canos?

lol, i was actually wondering during Tuesday's match whether he sees any real difference in his position now versus his position earlier in the season :D

He certainly didn't appear to be playing in a different position or more defensively than previous. It may be why Roerslev was more cautious going forward.

:hat:

One thing's for sure, his first name isn't pronounced "Sergey", with a hard G. Then again, Sergi does have, at times, a penchant for vaulting the ball over the bar!

Do we actually know if his name should be pronounced as in standard Spanish or Valencian/Catalan?
I am no expert but as he was born in Valencia that may have some influence on how he pronounces his name assuming there is a difference.

Go to 1:42 to hear the Radio Marca interviewer pronounce his name.

The "g" in Sergi is pronounced like the "s" in vision or the "j" in Janvier/Jeanvier, not like the "g" in legend.
So that's not like Castilian Spanish, where the "g" in Sergio is pronounced rather like the "ch" in Loch Ness or Ich möchte einen Bier.
And they roll the "r".
Canós is pronounced just as in Castilian Spanish, with a slight emphasis on the second syllable.

So the old song got it almost right. Kind of.
"Heeey, Sergi Canós (Ooh aah) I wanna know-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh how you scored that goal"

I'm no expert however (just get by at a bad tourist level) but shouldn't the i after the g soften it in Castilian Spanish to an English j sound? See eg

In Occitan, similar to Catalan, it is the 'softer' g. (Only because I know someone who's family language is that and you can hear it when he speaks French or English.)

Missed the first half but was very good in the second half. This system and position suits him.

I can’t see Rico being back for play offs, be a huge gamble after such a time out even if he was physically fit.

If Rico was fit then he’ll take the LWB spot, imo..... just depends if Rico can get a B team game in beforehand....?!!

It'd be a tough decision for Frank. Can't see Henry providing anywhere near the sort of attacking threat that Sergi does in that role. If we had both Dalsgaard and Rico fit I'd imagine there'd be serious discussions about going back to 4-3-3..

You have to like the guy , he’s really happy playing here. You only have to look back to the Blackburn game the joy he had when he scored , when some of us were there. It’s taken time for him to get to the level he’s shown in the last few games . You also have to give Thomas and the backroom staff credit for getting him back to todays level
