Hasn’t been playing in his favoured position this season and has done well. Feel for him as he doesn’t have the best engine on him and he’s playing in the most physically demanding position. Seems to be less influential in the latter parts of the second half which isn’t ideal when we’re chasing a goal. Hopefully a RB/RWB is signed in January and Canos is able to play higher up the pitch.

He is doing great and will only get better…if he doesn’t make the RWB position his own he is not getting in the first XI in any other role…

I think it's time for him to have a rest for a game or two. He's done so much better than we expected this season but today felt he was mediocre, very little energy going forward, didn't once really take his man on and seemed too keen to cut inside or pass square.

I didn't think so tbh but agree he needs to have a little more confidence to for the byline once or twice a half

I noticed that he didn’t want to take the man on much, but I also noticed that Mbeumo tried a few times but didn’t have quite enough pace to beat his man. Maybe it was more a case but of Leicester doing their homework on us.

Felt he wasn't at his best today, and especially in the first half seemed to spend a lot of time in the middle rather than out wide, rarely taking on his man. But noticed a lot of communication with Thomas Frank in the second, so wondered if he had specific instructions that weren't working?

Like everyone always he could play better but I think he’s confounded most of us by playing like a pretty assured PL RWB even if not one of the very best in one of the very toughest world leagues. He’s far more composed, consistent and effective than I think anyone could have expected even looking back to the beginning of the year.

Thought he was excellent today. Brilliant covering and still managed to get forward
Agreed he made a few really important tackles and interceptions. His positioning and discipline have come on leaps and bounds, he’s always going to look more effective when attacking on the left but he’s become a vital component of our defence at RWB

Sorry disagree. You must have missed Soyuncu getting booked when Canos skinned him in the second half for pace & was subbed soon after. You don't have to beat your man every time, for me he used the ball cleverly & created a number of attacking situations & overloads. Behind Norgaard I thought he & Rico were amongst our best players. Both played high in the first half & created a lot of problems for Leicester that we didn't capitalise on.
If there was one criticism today it was some if his crossing lacked its usual whip & venom but that was symptomatic of our crossing in general the corner which we scored from aside.
Add into that he kept Castagne quiet all match & was solid defensively his excellent form this season why would you want to rest him.

Coz he looks knackered. Anyway more importantly I saw you on the phone outside the station in a little white number I think. I would have said Hi but I heard you say "year 1" which implied it was a vaguely grown up conversation.

Much as I've really liked Sergi for his attitude and heart for the club, I feared when we got promoted that he was probably at best only going to be good enough quality wise to be a squad (i.e. mostly on the bench) player at Premier League level. However, he has proved me wrong and indeed has improved as the season has progressed. Yesterday was possibly his best game this season, and he's more than acquitting himself in his defensive part of the game, which previously I thought was one of his weaker aspects of his game.

Excellent today and he has been all season to be fair. Had my doubts at the start of the season as to whether he’d cut it at wing back in the prem but he’s proving me wrong.

I think this is his 6th season at the club, including the loan from Liverpool.
One season behind Saunders, but ahead of Harlee Dean in the post O'Connor era, yet still around 40 appearances behind Harlee.

Need to remember the time out he had with his knee injury.

He really celebrated his goal, like only Sergi can :)

Got a great rendition of his song after too, must have been heard all around the stadium.

One of the relatively small group of players at any club who obviously gets even more pleasure from scoring even than most fans. You’d have to have a heart of stone not to love him even if you don’t rate him (and he should have silenced most critics by how well he’s stepped up to playing in the PL).

Sergi is so much more of a threat from the left side. Was great tonight..
Maybe he was more effective as he was playing against weaker opposition I suspect. He’s been good at RWB so far…it his spot to lose

No, it's simply because from that side he can cut inside and be a real threat with his right foot, doesn't have the same impact on the other side. Not saying he hasn't played well on the right though because he's been excellent but we've missed that option on the left side

Yeah I take your point, wasn’t he on the left when he scored his hatrick against Reading?

I like him on the left. Think he has a better understanding with Rico when playing a back four.

Would you really rather play him than Rico??? There’s no room for him on the left in a 352 formation.
This is easily solved - put Rico at right wing back. Or Mbeumo once Wissa ousts him up front (BM played there when we were chasing a goal vs Bournemouth i think).

Joking aside, Sergi really did look good at left wing back last year. The bigger problem with that is there's nowhere else (really) to put Rico, who's a fantastic player. But if Rico were injured again... it'd be interesting to see what we did. But we don't need more injuries please...

Have always liked sergi's enthusiasm but had not always been well directed. think he has really grown and is much more calm on the ball and plays with his head as well as heart. Benefits from being able to be a wing back now. Watch him at the stoke game just before the ball comes to him for the goal in the build up he is preparing himself for the knock back if it comes and ivan seems to know he is ready to pass to him. We have been done a few times this season this way and used to have vita, josh, kamo to arrive late in open play to shoot if it comes out the box.

The best we can hope for is in open games he can swap over to the left while we’re doing an overload- like against Arsenal when he did so and scored from something like his old LW spot.

He moved centrally a few times and occasionally left against Leicester, which must’ve been tactical rather than random.

Thomas had a word with him just before he moved to the middle

Wanted to ask those who have got a better grasp of formations/tactics than me - IMO Sergei's a blindingly good player with a superb touch, quick feet, fantastic little surges of pace, an eye for a pass and a shot on him - he's also done an amazing job as a wing back - shown he can tackle and press too - (even in today's poor performance he looked class) - but is there any way we can fit him in more forward on the left? Just reckon there's loads of goals and assists if he's playing there...

I have thought about this and it seems there are three main ways this could be done:

- He replaces Henry as the LWB in our current system

- He replaces one of our three central midfielders as we go 3-4-3

- He replaces one of our three central defenders as we go 4-3-3

Problem is I am not sure anyone would want to drop Henry to accommodate him at LWB nor do we have strong enough options at right back if Sergi vacates this position.

And anyway, I think, when back, Wissa will provide us the goal threat off the left that perhaps we miss currently.

I think the most likely way to do this would be by playing Roerslev RWB and having Canos up with Toney while Mbeumo is out. I’m hoping Bryan will be back next week though.

I’ve upset a few by commenting on Henry’s lack of impact going forward but for me that gives us a big conundrum. He’s stepped up a level in his defending generally and cruising past the likes of Salah and Vardy then turning and making an unhurried pass has been incredible to watch. But out of defence his hit rate with crosses and shots is too low. He looks to me like he might also be paying the price for the high intensity he started the season with in the errors yesterday and for Leicester’s first goal- iirc last season his performances had dropped a little in the couple of games just before he got injured. Might we have to move Sergi into LWB due to injury?
