He was pulling our team through at the start of the season. Was our best player til he got injured
Yep agree , though some times he seemed to try too hard and it back fired . He now has time to become more patient and develop further

He's not going to find it easy working his way back to a regular starting position. Mbuemo, who has already scored 14 goals this season, is the man in possession, and Roerslev is the coming man on the right of midfield (he was looking hot stuff prior to the lockdown).

It could be that there is a vacancy on the right next season with Mbeumo moving inside.

Regardless if Ollie or Said are here Serge is more than good enough for this team. I Think he is only 23 not even at his peak. You get to be at Barca and Liverpool for a reason, so I will say as I have said before do not write Sargi off he will be back.
3 players for the price of 1??!!
Serge, Sargi and Sergi!!! lol

Sounds like Sergi could be involved if the season restarts in June

Was just watching highlights of the Derby 3-0 win, I'd forgotten quite how well Sergi was playing before he got injured..

He played that game RWB against an utterly shambolic Derby team. After we switched back to 4-3-3 he fell away a bit. Will still be a good addition off the bench if fit.

I wonder if the club will try and organize another friendly game for the “second eleven” to give him and those players more game time so can be ready when called upon. Not sure who could be against atvthis stage unless a Premier League team “second eleven” who need game time as well.be great to have a super charged Sergi to bring on with twenty or so minutes to go.

sadly we've got so many games coming up i can't see it as we won't want to risk any squad players. If the B teamers were still about we probably would.

Canos injured his ACL, did you not read that? If he was anywhere near ready to play he would be on the subs' bench.

to be fair to him that's prob my fault for posting a link to a tweet from what I presumed was his agent suggesting he'd be back soon? you're suggesting that's not the case?

I have no info, but I just can't see it. Twisting and turning on a new ACL takes ages. And we have no pressing need for him to return.

Totally agree with Banana, but with being allowed 9 subs now, having Sergi on the bench with no intention of using him might be advantagous for team morale, the guys enthusiasm could be invaluable in the remaining games to some of the younger players.

It does seem odd to think of Sergi as an older mentor!

Would be gr8 to see him get on in the Barnsley game once we've attended to business.

As I posted on another thread, whilst we all love Sergi, IMO he's fallen down the pecking order a bit, due to his injury and long recovery time (match fitness?) and how well the team has played in his absence. I personally don't think he would be chosen to come on, other than a real emergency situation where, eg, 2 wide players were injured and unable to continue. He did, of course, have a few outings at wing back, so is now (almost) a utility wide player, so able to cover up to 4 positions, and therefore a very useful player to have available.

In Canos's absence, Valencia seems to have become the go-to sub for Mbeumo, who hasn't really been firing since the restart. Depending on the match situation at the time, we might see Canos get 15 minutes against Barnsley, particularly if we are going to be facing another three games which he could feature in.

The Sergi that we had up until his injury would easily take Mbeumo's place on Bryan's current form. But I trust TF to know whether Canos is yet likely to perform at that level.

I'd be happy to see him come on if we're 3 or 4 up.

I’ll come on if we’re 7-0 up with 3 minutes left to play. Possible end score would then be 7-3 to us!

On a serious note, I’d love to see Sergi get a few minutes on the pitch, if we are in a commanding winning position v Barnsley.
He’s been on the bench, so TF must be very confident that he’s fit and ready to play.

He deserves to feel that he is still part of the squad’s superb season.

Agree that Bryan M. has lost his edge since the restart, and that Valencia, when he comes on, appears to make a noticeable difference.
However, as with Marcondes, the talent and skill is there for Bryan, he’s just having a footballer’s lean spell.

Dunno why but his “I’m back” video struck me more as a show-reel for potential employers.

I would bring Canos on before Valencia every day of the week.

That should tee up Valencia for the winner tomorrow.

I think he's more just signed up to an agency, it's certainly an unnecessary video. That said it probably is 'good for the CV' though, but he has just signed a contract extension so if a move was lined up, I'd be a bit surprised at this point.

Think (some) people are writing sergi off too soon he was one of the bright sparks in a disappointing start to the seaaon. We will look back at the season with ifs and maybes no matter what happens but IF we manage to squeeze into the top 2 the amazing assist he made against boro away to get us 3 points there will stand out as a huge moment for me

How can you write him off til he's played ?

He was our best player this season til he got injured. He was carrying the team

That's quite rose-tinted. Only 11 appearances; he's got some weird statistics, though. Second in tackles per game, second in key passes per game but the worst pass completion percentage of any player.

He also looked very good when we played him as a wing back. Maybe not the best defensive wise but dynamite bringing the ball out.

He's a strange one as he's a bit of a frustrating player from our perspective...yet in televised games or listening to other clubs' commentary etc, when he was substituted on the hour, the commentators almost to a man said "strange move, he was causing problems down that side".

Sergi will come on and score. He is better than our bench when he is fit - and our bench is pretty good.

Yeah, I don't think we should forget just how good he was when we were on our poor initial season form. He was basically dragging us to results and Boro and Barnsley come to mind as results that he forced out (he got two assists for Watkins hattrick). His injury did lead to Mbeumo gaining the experience that he needed to push on, but Sergi would have been such a strong asset if he didn't get his injury.

Agree, before his injury he was arguably our best player in terms of form, he will be an asset to us in Champ or Prem... he is not going anywhere.

How sit rose tinted. Who was better at the start of this season when we didn’t start too well.......he was our best and most consistent player up until he got injured

Yes, I think there's a possibility that he might get converted into that role as he improved substantially at it. The coaching staff have managed to get Said and Bryan belting back to defend and doing so competently (not just making up the numbers or impetuously diving in like Said did away at Elland Road last season to give away the free kick Pontus got their equaliser from) so they may be able to do even more with Sergi as he's already started down that path.

Love Sergi and he can definitely play in the Premier League. I’d love him to be here long term and become a true club legend.
