Up the road from NCFC (again - I think permanent t
I would love us to sign Ghoddo just to stop people from doing "Waiting for Ghoddo" gags I've counted 6 so far on this thread.

Anyway Sky are reporting we are after Vladimir Estragon

..........but the original never did arrive, did he? - sorry to pour a Beckett of cold water on this idea - actually, no I'm not!.........

I dunno. We need to either hold onto or sign some UK players to ensure we don't run afoul of the homegrown players requirement.
Doesn't home grown refer to how log they have been in your "system"?

Ronaldo was a genius, some would argue he didn’t improve he just went to a league where he found it even easier.
You say "some", but barring yourself, I don't think anyone would argue that CR didn't go to a whole new level entirely as he entered his mid-to-late 20's. And kept on doing so.

He went to Madrid under the best managers In the world, he didn’t join Brighton under some bloke called potter.
If Brighton are no Real Madrid, then Brentford are no Manchester United (2009 model) either. I mean, didn't they have some bloke called Ferguson?

Anyhow, even if you will not agree the Ronaldo analogy, would you accept some examples closer to home?

Egan and O'Connell under some bloke called Wilder, for instance?

Tangent...

The notion that Maupay would improve more under Potter than he would under Frank is based on not much, it's a cliche that gets dragged out sometimes when a new player signs for a club. Odds are he'd improve either way but the key to his future isn't Potter, it's against testing himself against better defenders and learning to raise his skill level accordingly. Ronaldo carried on his improvement, he works so hard on every aspect of his game that this would happen regardless of where he was.

No, it refers to being developed at any club in the PL/FL systems. Both Pogba (MU) and Lukaku (Everton) count as "homegrown" for example, as do players with certain Welsh clubs eg James (Swansea), whereas players developed at Scottish or Irish clubs do not.

It's one of the reasons why MU are paying such outrageous sums eg for Maguire and AWB (and Longstaff?) - they need to bolster their homegrown quota from the pile of dung they have at present (Jones, Smalling etc). Also explains why they're reluctant to do swap deals for foreign players for Pogba, Lukaku - they much prefer/need hard cash.

Ok, I will let you speak for the whole population bar just me and I promise not to say it’s my opinion and I am entitled to it.

Let’s just say Maupay didn’t improve much under us in the last 2 seasons and watch him excel as a player under Brighton.

Of course you're entitled to it.

Just as I'm entitled to opine differently.

Positively no-one is saying that, no-one at all.

... and watch him excel as a player under Brighton.
He may, he may not.

I dunno. We need to either hold onto or sign some UK players to ensure we don't run afoul of the homegrown players requirement.
33.9 ‘Home Grown Player’ shall mean a Player who irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with:-

33.9.1 his current Club; and/or

33.9.2 a Club and/or any other football club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales,

for a period, continuous or not of three Seasons or 36 months prior to his 21 birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21). For the purposes of this definition of Home Grown Player only, a Season will be deemed to commence for all Clubs on the same date as the date on which the Summer Transfer Window in that Season closes for Clubs in Leagues One and Two, and expire on the date of the final League Match of the Season.

33.10 For the purposes of Regulation 33.9.2, but not otherwise, a Player who was at all times registered with a Club (or club) affiliated to the Football Association of Wales shall be treated as having been registered with a Club (or club) affiliated to The Football Association, and vice versa.
Reading this, they suggest the season starts 1st September (end of transfer window for L1/L2 clubs) and ends on the final game of the season.
Anyway players who qualify (not necessarily through us):

David Raya
Rico Henry
Dru Yearwood
Ethan Pinnock
Sergi Canós
Ollie Watkins
Josh Dasilva
Marcus Forss
Josh Clarke
Ellery Balcombe
Luke Daniels
Mads Bech Sørensen
Tom Field

33.11 Club Developed Players. Subject to Regulation 33.12, with the effect from the commencement of the 2018/19 Season each Club shall be required to nominate at least one Club Developed Player on their Team Sheet of Players for all League Competition Matches (including Play Off Matches). Where any Club does not name a Club Developed Player on the Team Sheet, that Club will only be permitted to name up to six substitutes on that Team Sheet (rather than the seven as permitted by Regulation 33.4).
These 5 qualify for this at Brentford....
Marcus Forss
Josh Clarke
Ellery Balcombe
Mads Bech Sørensen
Tom Field

We have to name a minimum of 7 players out of the 18 allowed from the first list, in which 1 player must come from the 2nd list to count as a club developed player. If we do not list any 1 of the 5 above, then we are only allowed to name 6 substitute players.

From the players above, we have 13 players who would qualify (that are solely in the First Team according to Wiki) - so 6 more than we need in theory.

The fact I have left out big signings this Summer is a testament to the very difficult job Thomas Frank has, here is a team that easily passes the rules...

RAYA
Dalsgaard
PINNOCK
Jansson
Jeanvier
HENRY
Jenson
Norgaard
WATKINS
Benrahma
Mbeumo

DANIELS
SORENSEN
DASILVA
CANOS
YEARWOOD

I find it so hard to believe how bent out of shape some people can get over such a simple comment.

For someone to say make fun of the silly comment that Maupay will improve under potter like he is some genius and everybody starts getting so touchy.

They are sailing so close to the wind on FFP and see his name as being the way forward rather than if his legs can cope with it.

Bloody weird. Look what we have signed, why would spend all you money on him.

GHODDOS LATEST

Brentford in talks to sign Amiens forward Saman Ghoddos in £7m transfer and the deal is close.

A source has told us a deal has been agreed with Amiens and the Bees are now discussing personal terms with the player.

I take it you are talking about me, why should I post when we are trying to get a player or 2 for a position I believe we have needed.
