We are in a good place at the moment as a lot of the contracts dont run out at the end of the season.

With such a good team we could offer renewed contracts, especially if we go up.

Ha, ha! One too many nightcaps?

Probably more chance of getting the band back together... Hogan, KK, Sawyers, FloJo, Dean, Tarks, Jota, Colin, Lasse.....
Ha! My point. I'd put money on our recruitment team having two recruitment plans: 1. PL season; 2. PL following season. I really doubt that they will contain Championship players that impressed me recently. For me, that would include Antonee Robinson, Yakou Meite and Matheus Pereira.

Pereira has been bought by West Brom after his loan I think so unlikely we could tempt him especially if we both go up

Clearly... but he's on my Championship players that impressed me recently list. In terms of Players on BFC's radar, then I think those overseas rumours are more pertinent... and maybe a look through the players at the PL clubs that will probably drop.

I think that Championship list is much smaller than it's been for a while, its usually created by clubs who get promoted pillaging from clubs who didn't. One of the reasons will be that we are often providing players for the list (Maupay, Konsa, etc.) which reduces the numbers we can look at when we go up but I have been impressed by less players on other teams this year.

📰 Premier League clubs have been alerted about the existence of a buy-out clause in Brentford’s Ollie Watkins’ contract.

It could be triggered for as little as £18m.

Crystal Palace and Southampton have closely monitored his situation.

I imagine it would be £18m but with pretty good add-ons also needed

Pretty confident this was mentioned elsewhere that this is exactly the case. One Premiership target spreadsheet and one Championship target spreadsheet.
We would undoubtedly have different strategies for either outcome.
Which means the dofs have a tricky period holding targets ‘on ice’ until we know our fate.

Hopefully the clause can only be activated if we fail to go up.

£18mill would be well below what his true value is iMO.

Maybe. But it is very possible that the whole transfer market will be extremely depressed this summer and that will seem like a lot of money.

More likely phishing than any substance to it. Why would Ollie sign a new deal in August to 2023 and Brentford (MB!) include an £18m release clause? Knowing he's a talent with a much higher transfer value than Maupay! Crazy. Absolute crazy. Paper talk, rumour and bullshit more like.

Maybe it was the price of getting him to sign the contract. At the time it may have seemed like a win-win at £18 million for a left-winger who scored a few goals.

There were rumours that we might lose Watkins in the summer. Realistically we needed to offer him a new contract and wage increase to keep him, and he could rightly argue that he deserved it. It doesn't seem that unlikely to me that there would be a release clause of some kind in there as a condition of him signing. I hope you're right though.

It's more than we got for Maupay in the pre-Covid market
People keep mentionng a Covid market......... If a team wants to pay the asking price they will.

Look at the numbers being spent by Chelsea for example. The teams at the top will still have the spending power.

I expect we will see a split between a few teams with rich owners who don't mind eating big losses and want to take advantage of relaxed FFP rules to make up some ground, and the majority of clubs who have to be at least to some extent self-sufficient. Of the latter category even huge clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool seem likely to significantly scale back spending. I reckon there will be a few big deals (Werner etc) but the median fee PL teams will be paying will be much lower.

I'm sure all clubs, including those in other European leagues, have reassessed their budgets in the light of revenue losses without a finite end in sight. Yes, the giants will not be affected too much but every other club will have been and those clubs may take lower offers to generate cash.

Chelski, an interesting example to use. They’re playing catch-up after missing several windows, and there may be a bit more churn
as contracts expire this summer. Some signings to bolster Frankie's kids, and less teams in the market from now on could actually be to their benefit.

If Wet Spam do drop down, perhaps we can make a sneaky low bid for Seb Haller (who was on our radar at one point) and let them know what it's like to be shafted when the boots on the other foot! :fishing:

Looks like Ronan Curtis has played his last game for #Pompey Three Championships clubs are leading the chase to sign him with #BrentfordFC favourites to see off competition from #readingfc and @Roversbuzztap for his signature #PFC https://t.co/g6IZR3Mts9

I thought Derby had been chasing him for some time.

Safe to say we have two transfer lists drafted up with differing budgets depending on what league we are playing in next season.

Interesting, harks back to the "Bees in partnership with Gulu United" days and the Ugandan (?) lad we had on trial.

Found this on the Kenyan Premier.. Quite mad, the first kid named is still at school whilst playing in the Premier League! He actually received his player of the month award at school... Seems to be the 'new Kenyan sensation' though so maybe one we're looking at? (Assuming there's any truth in the story). 17 yr old kid called Benson Omala..

Sounds like a hybrid of Paul Bence and John O'Mara

Season ticket sales must be down as nobody knows if they will be able to see a game.

However there is an argument for higher TV revenue as the audience must be much higher now and this is where the bulk of the prem money comes from, although I expect deals are already in place.

The current Premier League deal runs until 2022, although they are in negotiations for the next one (Nordic broadcasters have commented on that recently). I really doubt there was any sort of force majeure clause in the current one that allowed increases.

'B' Team! Only just 18 years, are they looking for a Centre Back?
They're looking for an entire team practically! Only 12 players left and 2 of them are v much on the cusp of the first team squad.. We currently have 2 B team defenders. Kane O'Connor and Aubrel Koutsimouka

Well there you are then perhaps this is a reinforcement on way! We have already got form for nicking a youngster from Brighton. It was a French midfielder last summer. He is retained so is one of the twelve.
Two on the cusp? There have been a few on the cusp. To date not sure if any have really made it other than a brief appearance. Roslev Rasmussen appears to be closest, but he only briefly passed through the B Team. Hardly stopped long enough to be counted one.
