Not so sure. If we go up I'd be surprised if we didn't add 2 or 3 older heads to the squad. Plus TF rates Bannan highly
Maybe, but just cannot see it being Bannan, he’d get eaten alive in the top division

With Wigan under administration are there then some of their players that should be a target for Brentford? Antonee Robinson reminds me a bit of Rico Henry although he was very close to join AC Milan this january
I think we were looking at Joe Williams at one point.

There would be no chance, absolutely no chance ! I doubt MB’s master plan was to use the data analysis to get to the top, then dump it and sign Barry Bannan !

Also, would we have to dump data analysis to sign Bannan?
I would have guessed he might score quite highly on data for how he affects Sheff Weds games.

Anyway, just thinking out loud. I assume we won't sign Bannan.

you need to watch lots more championship football if you think they good enough for us
No need for the condesending remark, Bannon is a class act that would suit our system perfectly. I asked about a players style of play, not his age or whether he would replace anybody.

He's a very good player. I expect he ticks every box from a data perspective. IF we go up, I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of experienced squad players arrived. That doesn't mean dumping the existing approach (which has evolved in recent years anyway)

After watching lots of Championship games over the past 2 weeks, who has impressed the most & would suit the "Brentford Style" my top pick would be Bannon from Sheff Wed, he would be a perfect fit for our style. also DaSilva at Bristol City would offer great competition to Rico.
I think Bannan is very talented, too. I mean, anyone who could stand out in the S.Wed team we tonked 5-0 has to have something about him.

That said, could he pass the "No Dickheads" rule? (Did I read somewhere he's got a bit of an attitude?). And at 31 in December, he certainly isn't in BFC's usual age range, unless they're looking for an inexpensive, short-term punt to cover the first season or two in the Prem?

But as someone else said, should we go up, we'll doubtless be "linked with" loads of players.

Then sign half a dozen players who weren't on anyone elses radar!

We signed Tommy Smith for our first season in this division.

I personally think Bannan has been the best player we've played over the last 5 years of championship in the sense he's showed up every game.

I think he's a top quality player who should have got a prem move at some point. But at this point, the only reason we'd sign anyone over the age of 30 is in a Javi Venta / Tommy Smith sort of way, where we're clearly getting them in for coaching and management as much as for the last 20 minutes of games. And I'm not convinced he fits that role.

But Re-emphasis on how good he is

He’s come down from the PL. Broke through at Villa, and last had a spell at Palace c.2015. Yes, he’s quality and just needs someone to take a punt on him. Probably do him no end of good getting away from a basket case of a club anyway...

and Bannan would replace who in the team ?
Is that to me? Blimey, I’m not advocating signing him, just aware he’s said something about ‘playing for a team like Brentford’ or similar.

I’ve even less ideas than usual (early July and don’t know which division we’ll be in). When do the windows close, anyone?

DaSilva would offer competition but not 'great competition', obviously good enough for the Championship but is he good enough to play in the Premiership like Rico is or will be. We should be now looking at premiership quality or premiership potential.

I would definitely take Bannon, he has always impressed me when playing us.

Bannon is Scottish so won't help with the homegrown quota, plus his age is against him. Always seems to be the best opposition player on the pitch whenever we play SW though

Believe you are incorrect on that front. you have to be with a club for three years before the age of 21. I think he joined Aston Villa in his very early teens.

I think Bannan would have failed our dickhead test a few years ago. Got bombed from the PL to the champ years ago.
He's now SW club captain (I think) so probably safe to say he's matured a bit?
No idea if he's in our radar but TF was glowing in his praise of him not long ago.
If we go up there's no way we wouldn't add a couple of older heads to the squad IMO. Doesn't mean they would be first names on the team sheet but we would want some more experience.
The 5 subs rule might also be a permanent change, who knows

Couple of Millwall players stood out last night - Jed Wallace and Marlon Romeo. Probably more likely to be signings for Championship should we not be promoted this season though.

and Bannan would replace who in the team ?
This is precisely the right question to ask for anyone on this thread. If a supposed target is young, where do or can they play to be brought in- who would they replace? If they’re at or near plateau then they need to be immediate first team.

Bannan is good but would we play him instead of Jensen, Da Silva, Baptiste? Would he be better value than extending Marcondes’ contract?

I’d much rather, if we went up, that the club trusted in the players we have and their policy of recruiting hot young players and perhaps not stay up than to pack out with experienced players who’ll hold back the development of our pipeline.

Agree but IMHO there's no way we wouldn't add 2 or 3 experienced players to the mix.

Jota and Bannan mentioned on this thread but could easily be others.
If we go up wages aren't an issue & the modern game is much more squad based rather than just first X1

I'd think it's more likely that we'd recruit a player or two who are currently playing in the Premier League if experience was a criterion.

If there were another opportunistic availability like Pontus of an experienced first rate player (eg I note Kante seems to be entering his final year, albeit he’s younger than Bannan and still at his world class peak!) I’m sure we’d be in like a shot but otherwise, I’m not sure.

I am all for bringing in experience but that does not have to mean signing players over 30.

Agreed. Age is just a number.
Probably of more interest is how much experience, presumably some at the top level.
If we go up and, as seems likely, Muff go down it wouldn't be a surprise to me if we went in for 1 or 2 off them.
Or someone from Norwich.
Or we acquire good players with experience from the Champ who are at clubs going nowhere.
Wages wouldn't be a problem if we go up. We could sign good players from bigger clubs in this division, which we can't do now as Derby/Sheff Weds/ Forest etc will pay more £s. Promotion would eradicate that.

Sure we'd stick to our tried & trusted formula but we would be in a position to also acquire "ready now" talent alongside the project players. We would need to do that IM0
