As we are getting close what team would you expect to start our first game in the Premier League?
I am assuming any other incomers from now would probably not start.

Raya
Pontus Ajer Pinnock
Roerslev Onyeka Norgaard Jensen Henry
Mbeumo Toney

Canos,Janelt,Ghoddos,Forss,Fosu et al

Unless we go to 433

Any thoughts?

Canos for Roerslev and Ajer on the right of the defensive three.

Tough to leave Canos out, but I suspect he'll start anyway as we've seen no sign of Henry. Apart from that, again harsh on Janelt but i'd expect our new signing to start. I actually prefer Norgaard in the Ajer role but we signed him for a reason. Apart from Canos for Henry I imagine you've picked it.

Personally I'd like to see a new RWB in that lineup and a new striker on the bench.

On the other side Arsenal have cancelled a tour to Florida as they have some covid cases

I agree, but Jansson can't play the right CB role in the Premier League IMO, so I'd swap him and Ajer.

Also, Canos has the chance to grab one of the wing-back spots in the next few friendlies. And still plenty of time for further signings!

As I said there won't be enough time to integrate any new signings for this game IMO, also Rico may not be up to speed,
agree with your comments re Jansson, wouldn't want to be TF when he tells him though!

Is that Henry at RWB? I think we have 2 LWB's in Canos and Henry, Canos is far more effective in that position than RWB.

No Da Silva? Does everyone know something I don't? Think he could be one of the shining lights for the Bees in the Premier....

Assuming that Mbuemo has shaken off the effects of long Covid by 13th Aug then I agree, this team.

Henry LWB, Canos RWB….the few times Canos played there he was class. I think the extra defensive responsibilities bring more out of his game.

I think Sergi on the left side is more of a threat, giving him the chance to cut in onto his right foot and shoot. Also Sergi at RWB and Pontus at RCB would worry me

I reckon that’s probably the team, unless we see a new full back or striker come in.

Hmm i take your point but there is only one man playing LWB and that’s Rico…it’s either Roerslav or Sergi at RWB unless we bring someone in.

What an insane thread. Still over three weeks to go
Even if anyone came in now they would be unlikely to be integrated into our system within three weeks, also work permits,
international clearance and quarantine issues.

I would say, and I'm not ITK, that the likelihood of a new striker to displace either Ivan or Bryan is pretty close to zero. Unless one gets a very bad long term injury.

We have a squad with Sergi, Rico (when fit), Ajer, Onyeka who all like to run with the ball. However freekicks earned by them will be wasted unless we sign a player that is better at taking them. Mathias’s delivery is low and flat which makes scoring from his corners very difficult to do.Even if Tariq or Saman are an option, they are unlikely to make our starting lineup.
To protect our players on the ball, we need to punish those who want to kick them and to do that we need to create chance from any freekicks and corners we get. To my mind this isnt a minor wish for our team but an essential part.

I am genuinely astonished the number of people leaving out Janelt! Sure, it's an option but why such a universally accepted one?

As things currently stand, I would go with Hayling's team above but with Janelt for Jensen. Keep it tight and extra competitive in midfield at the start and open up later as required.

Let's feel our way into this division a bit.

He’ll get his fair share of games this season. Agree Janelt in for Jensen away from home will keep things tighter but for our first home game against Arsenal we want to go all out to win and make an impression.

I think it’s likely that Onyeka will start on the bench with Janelt starting…

I think the issue is you wouldn't put him in ahead of Norgaard and he's not really impressed as an 8 thus far so sticking him in there up a level is a bit of a gamble. Onyeka is surely going to start if fit enough and then you need at least a little bit of attacking nous in there. I don't think we'd want to start our first game in the Prem totally on the back foot. We're likely to play more on the counter so you need someone like Jensen to pick the passes.. Would expect Janelt to get time from the bench regardless.

Norgaard can pick the passes early on - I think people forget how good he is at doing that when playing in midfield. Ajer also looks more than capable of an incisive pass after bringing the ball out of defence. Janelt's robustness will be invaluable against a passing team like Arsenal IMO. There will be plenty of time for Jensen perhaps later in the game and certainly throughout the season.

I see you've been watching Southgateball recently!

Janelt will get plenty of game time, but a midfield without Dasilva/Emiliano will lack creativity, let alone omitting Jensen too.

There's plenty of creativity in that side especially given Ayer's ability to bring the ball out from the back. and pass through the lines.

The last I read was that he was unlikely to feature this year, the most worrying part is they don't seem to have diagnosed what the
problem is (quote from Josh himself)

I'd go with that except maybe a new RB instead of Roerslev as I am not convinced he is PL quality yet
