--------- Grigg ------ Donaldson ---------
---------------------------------------------
Fillo -- McCormack -- Forshaw -- Saville
----------------------------------------------
Bidwell --- Craig ------ Dean ---- Logan-
----------------------------------------------
------------------ Button -------------------

Bench: Bonham, Venta, O'Connor, Dallas, McAleny, Saunders, El Alagui

So many decent players, it's difficult even to pick the bench.

Left out Nugent as O'Connor is better at this time. Left out Hayes as not sure in which position he offers the best cover. I would put El Alagui ahead of him up front, and O'Connor ahead in defensive midfield (purely because O'Connor can also go into defence if needed).

Rosler will probably start with 5 in midfield though against good opposition.

Cue everyone else putting the keeper at the top.

That team picks itself imo. can revert to 5 in midfield if Donaldson goes wide too.

Harsh on Hayes and Barron maybe...also where is Dave!? Still injured?

Fillo in for McAleny will be the only change from the team against Vale. Oh and Craig in for KOC if he is fully fit. I'm guessing that he will be.

Looks a good side, only thought is whether we need more defence minded midfield to start. If yes can see Sammy starting instead of Fillo.

I would like to see fillo in the starting line up. Not too bothered about craig coming in for o'conner, think he looked comfortable against the valiants, and from what I heard before he went off against dagenham he seemed to be playing well then. Not sure whether he is injured though???

Seemed to me like Uwe wanted to give Craig some game time in preparation for Saturday. Didn't think KOC was injured

To allow things to be more defensive if needs be I would play Fillo behind the front too and have McCormack, Forshaw and Saville playing as a middle three.
We will have to mark Brandy carefully, which could see Donaldson out on the left of a 5 man midfield, speed and strength.

Other than that, agree with the team. As fine as OConnor has done, Craig is preferred, taller, more vocal and a better defender IMO.

Don't think either of those two give us much defensively to be honest alhough as per our home performance against them last year offence is the best defence. Would like to see both Dallas and Farid get some game time if plan A doesn't work out.

Some very tough decisions but going on what I have seen in preseason and on Tuesday:

----------------------------------Button-------------------------------

Logan-----------------Dean---------------Craig---------------Bidwell

--------------------McCormack---------Forshaw--------------------

Donaldson----------------------Hayes------------------------Fillo

----------------------------------Grigg-----------------------------

Subs: Bonham, Kev, Venta, Saville, McAleny, Saunders, Farid.

This is a bit off the wall and it is tough to leave out McAleny and Saville but I really think Hayes' recent form deserves a start and given that it is likely to be a tough game a bit of experience throughout the team may be necessary. Bring Saville, McAleny and Farid on in the second half to find the gaps in a tiring SU defence.

Though it would not surprise me if it's those 11 players in a 442 formation. 433 has not really worked recently against Cardiff and Dagenham, forcing Rosler to switch it.

Also hope he doesn't throw Craig back in. I know he had 45 mins on Tuesday but would rather not disrupt a steady defence for the sake of it in a high profile game. He can play v Gillingham if Kev or Dean need to be dropped/rested.

Agreed on line up but playing devils advocate with you but what would you pick if Northampton Bee was manager for the day?;)

I reckon the same, Saville would be a lucky boy after last week where he was ok but not the legend that people had told me had looked the bizz through the friendlies, I trust their judgement though and I reckon this kid will be mustard.
If the two games with the different line ups were to see who won their battle for a place then Fillo beat McAleney, nobody beat Saville and possibly Farid beat Grigg but Grigg is the man with the central starting berth to lose at the moment IMO.

I think that's a fair assessment of the situation. Farid's part in turning the game around on Tuesday makes him a serious contender to start but at the current time it is Griggs to lose although the latter is already under a little pressure thanks to the Farid roadshow on Tuesday night. I will however be very disappointed if Dallas isn't on the bench at the least. His form and potential merit his involvement.

Hmm, steady on the Farid praise. He scored against a team that will be playing conference football in a year's time...deserves a bench place maybe but Grigg has so much more to his game, and a better first touch...

I didn't think the three forwards experiment worked in either the Celtic friendly or the Port Vale game so would be disappointed to see it tried again. I think we'll need more in midfield against Utd too.

Worth mentioning Farid said he was knackered after 20 minutes on Tuesday. Earned his place on the bench but won't start.

I agree with everyone who reckons that Uwe has a very tough job on his hands. Assuming he starts with 4-3-3

GK - Button
RB - Logan
CB - Harlee
CB - Craig
LB - Bidwell
RW - Fillo
CM - McCormack
CM - Forshaw
CM - Saville
LW - Clayton
ST - Grigg

Subs: Farid, Hayes, Dallas, McAleny, Venta, Saunders, Bonham

We WILL win the game. Our bench is unreal.

Defence picks itself with Craig returning but after that there are so many options, possibly too many!!! Selecting a team will be a headache.

Clayton and Grigg both play as does Adam and McCormack after that its a case of select any from the following list!!!

Would go:

Button
Logan Dean Craig Bidwell
Saville McCormack Forshaw Filo
Donaldson Grigg

However probably totally different from Rosler!!

Farid only ready for the bench

Agree with starting 11. Think we definitely need Kev on the bench and probably a CM (prob Reeves). Kev possibly in for Venta, Reeves for Dallas or McAleny - to make the bench more balanced, not because of any problems with the quality of those who would drop out

Don't see why I should be stinting in my praise. I like Farid, I like his attitude, he adds a dimension to our forward play and his enthusiasm makes things happen. I've seen a lot more of his capabilities at the moment than I have of Griggs. As for Grigg having more to his game I'd like to know how you've already reached that conclusion. IMO on the limited evidence thus far they are both very different in their strengths and what they bring to the team, Farid has ariel ability and a physical robust style and a natural finisher, Griggs has a good touch and keen footballing brain - a more mobile Hayes if you like.

You can disparage the opposition all you like on Tuesday night but Farid still had to take his opportunities and turned the game around. Let's hope Griggs can do the same on Saturday.

Whatever team we do put out I think we be far too strong for Sheffield United. Really confident we will win 3-1.

Really hoping one of our strikers can get a goal on Saturday, always big for a striker to get up and running. I think Donaldson and Grigg will both get a goal. Where's the prediction thread?

I agree with the starting eleven.

For the subs I'd have Diagouraga (or Reeves if Toumani is still not fit) instead of McAleny and O'Connor instead of Venta. Shame that McAleny would miss out, but we wouldn't need 3 strikers on the bench and I think Dallas is the better option as a super-sub winger.

I expect McAleny to be put out wide in a 4-4-2 but id like to see him behind the front 2 in the hole.

Tomani would be on the bench instead of Saunders but i don't think he's fit at the mo.

Can't see Clayton being interested in Wolves as they are in same division and by all accounts have to significantly reduce the wages before bringing players in

Can only see him going to a Championship club and even then would need silly money for MB to agree, mind you if Farid continues to score Clayton better find his scoring boots soon!!

s soon!!

Doyle offloaded would significantly reduce the wage bill and Clayton would be on a fraction of Doyles Premiership wages which are now reputedly average £21K a week.
The sooner the window shuts the happier I'll be.

I'd be amazed if Farid was fit enough to start after that long out.
