No brainer for me, expect TF to start the same team as he did against Bristol City.

Raya

Roerslev Jansson Norgaard Pinnock Canos

Fosu Janelt Jensen

Toney Forss
I wrote down my 1st leg starting line up a couple of weeks ago and I agree with your line up with the exception of Mbemo up top with Ivan. I can see the argument for bringing Brian on as a impact sub but just think we need our best players on the pitch from the the get go..

Depends on whether we’re looking to go at them from the start or to absorb pressure and have two hard pressers up front. Bryan for the former, Marcus for the latter. I suspect Forss.

You make a valid point. Even with me I think the only question mark in that line up is whether we start with Mbemo up top or Forss. I suspect TF will start with Forss but wouldn’t be too disappointed if Mbemo starts. Good to have these options but more recently our bench has looked strong.

I think you and AB are probably right and we will start with Forss up top with Ivan. Possibly saving Mbemo for the 2nd leg. Personally I would start Brian on Monday and take the game to Muff early on.. But Mr Frank knows what he is doing far better than me😂

Judging by the way Bournemouth started recently against us, I think you are right.

You could argue Mbeumo for Forss, but otherwise it feels fairly set.

Bees love being the underdogs!!!
Only one representative (Toney) in the combined play-off team .:judge:
3 Swans, 3 Poppies and 4 Supermen....... but we'll show 'em! :bounce:

You could even argue for Bidstrup instead of Fosu on that basis. Put out a team for the first leg that is geared to a high press and not conceding, then take that 'nil' into the second leg...

Possibly, though I think that might be a bit too negative and TF would prefer to take a lead through to the second leg rather than to invite a very strong attacking team on too much in the first leg. If we were playing Barnsley or Swansea that might be the approach over two legs. Although we did the double over Bournemouth, they could easily with better finishing have put themselves out of sight in the first 20 minutes so it’s a difficult decision for TF how to balance that threat with playing our own attacking game.

Quite like that idea and don't see it as that negative. Would help us keep the ball better and move it up and down the pitch quickly. Bournemouth can break v quickly so we can't be too careless with the ball when attacking. Probably a bit too much of an ask for one so inexperienced though at this level so imagine we'll stick with what we have..

Why not bench Toney and bring in an extra defender? Why on earth would we go defensive when we’ve recently shown we can tear them apart with this formation?

Got a feeling Frank might opt for Sorensen instead of Pinnock

🤔 Reading the quote I'd say it's from someone with a major say in team selection.
:nono:
Benham interfering in first team selection again.

Excellent work by TF to announce this.....👏👏
Will give Woodgate something more to think about in terms of how we might set up.....plus how we might change things from the bench....
Let the mind games begin!!! 😁

Remember they could and should have scored early on when the Fellaini looky likey slipped and blasted it high and wide iirc.

The thing that gives me hope is I don't believe Woodgate to be a master tactician... I do hope this doesn't prove to be famous and last words and all...

....he doesn't have to be a master tactician...not sure Mr Parker fitted that particular description either at Wembley.....but if the opposition dont turn up.....it can give the impression that you are a tactical genius....said it before.....but feel these games will simply be determined by who turns up on the day.....and not tactical nous.

Rico starting tomorrow, please.
Can't see it. Likely to be off the pace and perhaps over-desperate to make his mark, given the time out and the importance of the game. Clearly the most capable LB by far, but all it would take would be one mis-timed tackle early doors, and a yellow or red. Too risky to start imo, but a bit of psychology from Thomas to give Bournemouth something to ponder.

Don’t be silly. My observation was based on the maximum high press, not sitting deep, as in the reason for starting Forss.

TF knows the team already that will start and I am sure the players do also. Just having Rico back in the match day is a huge boost for all.

I agree with you JCMcBee, but you could argue that Parker's video analyst gave Parker the ability to look like a tactical genius with Bryan's free-kick.. finest of margins.
But you're right. Ful*** simply seemed a little more up for the final than we did.

Too much of a gamble to start with Rico unless Thomas thinks Bournemouth are vulnerable being attacked down flanks in which case Canos goes to right wing back and Rico left....however I think hardly likely will start with Rico but this is an option later on in game especially with five subs rule

Just thought your suggestion - that we change the team to play two defensive midfielders, including a player who’s had one start in his Brentford career - for the play off semi final - was very odd.

I agree. Bring him off the bench in the first leg and consider starting him in the second, moving sergi to the right.

Hmm, tough decision with Henry fit. We did have issues with them getting in behind the left wing back last time out but we fixed that pretty quickly. Do we gain more from that protection than we lose from Sergi cutting in from that side and running into the box? Given it's over two legs maybe we need to be a bit more safety first. No need to go hell for leather in the first leg, though a win there would be massive.. If we want to go for it I don't think Sergi would be anywhere near as effective as the RWB.. Fosu would though, so we could maybe we shift everyone right a bit, stick Sergi in the hole and Fosu as RWB? Then we have two wing backs who can get in behind and someone running at the defence centrally. Decisions, decisions! Don't envy Frank one bit.. Suspect we'll stick though and Henry will be on the bench. Gives Woodgate something to think about though..

Think Thomas will pick the same starting eleven and take a slightly cautious approach. We can't win it tomorrow but try to ensure we go into the second game level or maybe ahead.

Just read the Thomas Frank press notes. He's def keeping it tight to his chest, mentions of Henry, Ghoddos and Marcondes as potential starters and options with formation but I reckon that's just to keep Bournemouth guessing. Suspect it'll be the same as last game with changes second half..
