IF Watkins & Benrahma haven't gone by the weekend ........then they should play.
No employer wants to pay their best employees to sit about doing nothing.
....and it would be in their own interests to keep match fit ...........just saying like!

Of course they won't play. The club is planning on basis they're going in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

One, you've got £50M of combined assets which we're not going to risk. Two, they're sadly not our future and we will rightly focus /play players who are committed for this season, such as Toney and Sergi etc.

Best to just forget about Oli and Said for the time being.

Did I say the ones pushing for promotion? Err no
Oh and how does a player fulfill his potential sat on a bench ?

Sorry my mistake, my comment was based on Brentford trying to achieve promotion but if we are talking about the fact that we are just trying to stay in the Championship then I would agree with your comment 100%

But you’re misinterpreting what he said, he stated that most of our bench would start for most of the teams in this league (potentially excepting the top six) which makes them more than adequate substitutes for us.

Surely no one would expect the people on our bench to walk in to the first eleven of all the other top sides in this league?! We’re not Man City.

Whether I agree with his assertion for all of the subs is a different matter but you are deliberately misinterpreting what he said

Assuming no injuries, incomings or Ollie/Said unavailable I'll go for

Raya
Dalsgaard Jansson Pinnock Henry
Jensen Norgaard DaSilva
Mbeumo Toney Canos

Subs
Daniels
Goode
Thompson
Marcondes
Zamburek
Fosu
Forss

With Toney replacing Watkins and Canos replacing Benrahma, and Marcondes and Fosu as first attacking choices off the bench, this is essentially the team that last season was being described as the best in the Championship. Assuming that Toney can bed in and get off the mark quickly, I don't see why - avoiding injuries and with a fair share of the rub of the green, we can't go one better than last time.

Cant agree with you on your statement of going one better with the current squad.. Toney may become Watkins in time, Canos will never be Benrahma. Canos is a squad player at best if we are going for it. A higher grade replacement for him and a higher replacement for Jenson and I would agree. We need more goals in the attacking midfielder role this season.

I like your positivity but Toney isn't near Ollie's level and Canos is not IMO a starter. I think we'll still do OK but unless we bring at least 2 " top-top" players we won't be as strong as last season.

In 17/18 Sergi played 31 games scoring 3 goals. 12 games on the Right Wing scoring 0. 19 games on the left wing scoring 3

In 18/19 he played 50 games scoring 9 goal. 42 games on the right wing (or right midfield) scoring 6. 6 games on the left wing scoring 3.

In 19/20 he failed to score in 15 games but only played on the left wing once at Elland Road.

He is far more productive Goalwise playing on the left in last 3 seasons. 6 goals from 26 games, a goal every 4.3 games
On the right 6 goals from 70 games, a goal every 11.6 games

Conclusion: Play him on the left

I am not misinterpreting what was said, in fact it was the other way around. My original comment was that if we wanted to go for promotion then I was hoping for a couple more signings as I didn't think that the subs bench was strong enough for a promotion season (on the basis that the squad this year isn't very different to last season and we will have lost Benrahma & Watkins). I never once said that they wouldn't get into another championship team starting 11.

I appreciate what you are saying but the facts are that we weren't the best team in the Championship over the whole season as we finished 3rd in the league. Yes on our day we probably were the best but the issue is that we weren't consistent enough and struggled when we weren't allowed to play football. I do think that the league this year could be weaker but I think a couple of decent signings would take lady luck out of it and we could win automatic promotion.

Still plenty of time in this window so who knows what will happen!! I do feel we will probably start fairly slowly but am confident we will be there or thereabouts come season end

I don't think the possibility of them being in the squad is as far-fetched as some are making out. Woods made a couple of brief appearances just before leaving, as did Jota, Dean & Colin a year earlier, and Gray before then.
Not that I expect either OW or SB to feature again for us, but didn't Hogan also come on v Chelsea when we were about to sell him too??

Have to also factor in that several key players now have a year’s championship experience under belts which will make them stronger this year including Norgaard, Jensen, Marcondes, Da Silva and Mbeumo. Add to that the fact that we will have a more settled bedded in team at start of campaign with the defense and midfield all having played together for many months now should help us get off to a better start to campaign than we have done in recent years. Finally with B team players coming through and additions (including the players who came in at January window) our squad depth will be stronger than last year which will be even more critical this season.

I think this will be the team, I still think we could do with a couple of new signings as the squad wasn't strong enough to go up last season and we don't have arguably 2 of the best players from the Championship last year. I think Toney is a good signing and Jensen & Norgaard should be even better this year but that bench doesn't give me a feeling of "consistency" one bit.

I think you right

If Said isn’t sold by the weekend he should at least be on the bench. I’m all for keeping him injury free but at a loss to our team? We need our best team possible Saturday to give us a chance, not another slow start

I can't see us not adding to the squad further now Watkins is off and presumably with Said to join him soon enough. having said that I think we've definitely got enough about us as is to start the season well..

Raya, Dalsgaard, Pontus, Pinnock, Henry, Norgaard, Marcondes, DaSilva, Canos, Toney, Mbuemo.

Subs: Daniels, Thompson, Goode, Jensen, (Zamburek or Baptiste?), (Fosu or Dervisoglu), Forss,

Have started with Marcondes as I think he's a little bit more disciplined than Jensen away from home and we're likely to sub one of those out around 60 odd mins anyway. But you could probably rotate any of those attacking midfielders ahead of Norgaard. Undecided on the bench as there's a fair few who deserve a spot so bit of a toss up between Fosu and Dervisoglu and Zamburek and Baptiste..

I disagree with this. I think Said is the past now, and it was a glorious one.

I wouldn't put him in the squad because it deprives an opportunity for another one of our players, who will need the experience for the season. I can imagine Said is also quite influential, and not having him at an 100% focus within the squad i think would be counterproductive.

Also it's a given, it's protecting the money we need for the future of the club. I think we should accept he's gone and move on, we're gonna be pretty good this season too.

I expect Raya will not get rid of his 'knock' that coincidentally happened the day after rumours started about Arsenal so Daniels in and believe he will do a competent job. I am probably in a minority of 1 and not even TF will do but would start Forss rather than Toney. Just feel he may need a week or two more to be fully up to speed. The key for me is to get a good start. Birmingham don't seem to have goals in them so can see this being a scrappy 1-0 with the team above.

Has the oppo tied up in knots?

All three are like the wind. They don't always follow through with the end product but when they do they can make a real mess in the opposition goalmouth. I'll stop now as I'm making myself feel ill.

With Sergi’s runs, Bryan’s slick movement and Ivan spraying the oppo’s net, there won’t be any chance of a clean sheet for visitors!

Is benrahma on the bench out the question?
Probably stating the obvious but depends whether there are really any sensible offers under consideration by us. If not I suppose it is possible.

Maybe if we do not manage to sell him before the end of the window he will start playing for us again but I really hope that is not the case and we manage to finalise an acceptable deal for him. The sooner he leaves now the better for all parties as we can then all move on.

I think the fact that Thomas has mentioned it means that we have offers under consideration. Even if they do not meet our valuation, it means he's 'in play'.

:D there's a smile for you.
It's all about opinions get over it sir.

It is about opinions, you're right. But we usually base our opinions upon the evidence we assemble. Do you yet have sufficient evidence to confidently assert your view about Ivan?
