I think it is important to give the B team/second string game time in a competitive environment, as this helps to keep them engaged and motivated. I think the B team may have missed quite a few matches recently due to Covid as welL
If they are not match fit. Why risk going out of the cup.

There is no reason not to pick a strong team.

Its not like the last few years where we had more games and a promotion fight.

We are safely midtable.

I'd include Racic in the team if I had any idea where he is, or if he is even at the club. Looks like he's gone the way of Efan Ekoku. Team selection at PV good opportunity for Stevens, one of our crowd scene of keepers, Bidstrup, Forss if he hasn't gone out on loan. Normally I am always banging on about taking the cups seriously and putting out a strong side but that shouldn't happen this time so happy to see B team players getting a chance with a strong bench just in case.

Stevens - Ajer - MBS - Janelt* - Thompson

Ghoddos - Bidstrup - MPH

Forss - NYC

Bench: strong

* if we play Janelt at the back it gives him minutes and a chance for MPH

Stevens Ajer MBS Janelt Thompson

Peart-Harris Bidstrup Ghoddos

Forss Toney

I might start Jensen over MPH if he is fit. Then I think Toney needs more mins and a goal as he's not looked great since he came back from COVID.

Bench can be half first team half B team. Hopefully winning comfortably and give Young-Coombes and Maghoma some time.

Could this be close to it?

Brentford: Lössl; Ajer (Crama ’66), Hockenhull, Oyegoke; Stevens, Ghoddos (Haygarth ’72), Bidstrup, Janelt (Young-Coombes ’66), Thompson; Peart-Harris, Forss

No need to risk Rico, Bryan, Matty , Sergi, or any of the others nearing full fitness.
LLossl/Cox, Stevens, Thompson, Ajer, Janelt, Ghoddos, Forss, Peart-Harris, Bidstrup, Zamburek all need time on the pitch, starting or sub.
Mads Roerslev & Bech will benefit from playing more regular games.
Thomas will know if Toney, Wissa, Pinny or Baptiste need to be involved.

Looked back at the Forest Green match. Would bring in Jonas for Alvaro and Ajer for Halil.
Jonas,
Roserlev, Ajer, Pinnock, MBS, Thompson,
Bidstrup, Janelt, Ghoddos
Wissa, Forss.

Should get us through plus minutes for a few players.

I thought we struggled against FGR until Onyeka, Canos & Mbeumo came on 2nd half. Vale are similar ilk.

If stoke away taught us anything it's don't start any 1st names on the teamsheet in any cup game

If Stoke taught us anything it is that we won with playing so many first teamers that resulted in a quarter final place. Having said all this I would rest Pontus, Toney, Pinnock and Norgaard. The injury Ajer picked up could have happened in any game.

b***ocks.

We are going to stay up and this is our best team in nearly 80 years. Why wouldnt you try your best to win a major trophy?
Think we will but Port Vale away is no walk in the park.
It will be a squad team imho.
Vale will fancy their chances, they are flying & no doubt it will be a lively atmosphere.
I can't do all the aways & am doing this instead of Liverpool, this is the tastier game of the two IMHO👍

Because we started 433 as well. At this stage of the season starting 3 at the back with wing backs we should be better.

I don't think we should play anyone who hasn't featured in a first team fixture before, as that will impact our ability to have games postponed if we have a covid outbreak.

With Man Utd now looking likely to be January 19th, that’s 3 PL games in 8 days starting from January 11th.

As such, considering the injuries we still have and the need to preserve players for PL football, I think extensive rotation is inevitable for the FA Cup.

will people stop choosing stupid teams , its very annoying for those of us who have forked out for tickets and travel.
This will a very hard game and we need a strong team
Yes, maybe we should just have a strategy of preserving our first choice players for matches against the bottom 10 PL teams and play B teamers in every other game because the only important thing is to stay in the PL. that’d make supporting the Bees SO worthwhile!

I think we will play a relatively strong team. Janelt and Ajer will start as coming back from Covid and injuries so:

Losl or Cox

Roerslev
Ajer
Pinnock
MBS
Thompson

Bidstrup
Janelt
Ghoddos

Forss
Wissa

Play virtually our first choice defence? Don't think that will happen - we have 3 PL games in 8 days after this so I'd be surprised if many players aside from those coming back from injury are risked.

This could be a tricky game on a boggy pitch, in driving rain and the northern tribes shouting them on, all whilst calling for the southern dandies to be sent packing forth with.

This won't be like Oldham at home.

So no Jensen, Canos and still no Goode and Zanka. Ajer will start and Bryan could feature at some point.

My guess would be:

Lossl

Stevens Ajer pinnock thompson gordon

Bidstrup MPH ghoddos

Wissa Forss

Bryan, young coombes, oyegoke, janelt, maghoma to make an appearance off bench dependent if game is won or lost.

I really hope not. That midfield would be totally swamped

The risk is who do you play? With no jensen and important games coming up do you risk Norgaard or Janelt or Baptiste (Starting midfield against Southampton). Not over flushed with midfield options. I don't actually think midfield being swamped is an issue, we should have majority of the ball unlike most games this year and we need creativity in MPH and ghoddos as young wingbacks may not provide that. My worry is the lack of height against a league two side who are also very good at long throws. Maybe stick mads bech in but again a risk with games coming up.

They havent played in nearly 4 weeks but that team with subs should be able to get a result

I'm not convinced TF said we "will not rest players" 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not sure we have a lot of choice? We're unlikely to change formation which means 3 at the back from a selection of 4 fit CBs, unless you play Janelt or Thompson there but then you've got issues in midfield/wing back. Can't see us starting with any of the B team CBs given they've not really even been on the bench so far. Guess Hockenhull would be the closest but even he's missed quite a few games through injury.

Exactly why I’m looking forward to it. Old skool FA Cup.

Saw him play for the B team in the 3-1 defeat at Woking. Looked decent on the ball at times but very short of match fitness. Nowhere near the standard of the first team squad and judging by the performance against Woking would struggle against Port Vale. Racic doesn't seem to have progressed since his fleeting appearances in the Championship or loan at Northampton unfortunately.

There’s a quote on the club’s twitter where he says we will rotate and give players who need it minutes. Think the Independent have misinterpreted him saying it’ll be a “strong team”.
Bang goes the theory that you can trust a broad sheet!!

Nathan Young-Coombe in the Port Vale Preparation photos on the OS. Suggests he will be on the bench at least.
