Well, when you lose three on the bounce and have some new injury concerns, you need to find a new winning formula.

We are all hoping Toney and Norgaard will be involved. Safe to say Henry won’t be. Below is my best go based on the assumption none of them will start:

Raya
Dalsgaard Pinnock Janelt
Fosu Jensen Dasilva Mbeumo
Ghoddos Canos
Forss

Back 3/5 designed to be flexible enough to turn into a 4 if either wingback is caught up the pitch.

You’d maybe have Reid instead of Pinnock.

We will probably stick with a four at the back, obviously this is just a bit of harmless fun.

Now something of a critical game; got to do something going forward.

Start with Zamburek instead of Ghoddus.

Start with Fosu instead of Bryan.

Make sure Stevens is at least on the Bench.

Start with Reid; rest either Ethan or MBS

What?!!

Raya

Dalsgaard Reid Pinnock Sorensen

Dasilva Janelt Jensen

Fosu Forss Canos

That will, imo, be the XI starters! 😁

Forget Toney, Norgaard, Marcondes, Henry, Pontus etc. The first three names will be Saturday v Stoke at the earliest, imo. No use risking them yet...

I think your right but in an ideal world I’d take Canos, Sorensen and Forss out of that team but we simply don’t have options to do so.

Yep. Squad isn’t as deep as “we” had hoped. The B team players will find it hard to come in and do a job when the side is on a downer!!

Tough to ask Gordon, Bidstrup, Haygarth, Pressley, Gilbert and Stevens to step up to make a difference.

Personally I’d play Gordon from
The B team at left back as it’s his natural position and from his appearance in the cup looked quite promising

Probably closer to the real deal to mine but I’m really not sure on Sorensen at left back.

I'd go for a 3-4-3:

----------------Raya
---Dalsgaard--Reid---Pinnock
Roerslev------------------Mbeumo
----------Jensen---Janelt
------Dasilva-----------Fosu
----------------Forss

Assuming Toney is out, I think the switch to 3-4-3 would allow us to get players closer to Forss and to replace Henry with a similarly attacking-minded player. Hopefully playing at left wing-back will spark Mbeumo into life, as he'll have space to run into and won't have to try too hard when cutting inside. He played there a few times at the end of matches last season too. At right wing-back, I'd want to have a true defender to compensate for Mbeumo on the other side, so Roerslev gets the nod over Dalsgaard because he's got more pace, which is best for a wing-back.

Dalsgaard should play in the back 3, as we need his leadership and ability to bring the ball out. Reid gets the nod over Sørensen, who could probably do with a break.

In midfield, I'd want Dasilva to do what he does best, which is cutting in from the right, so I wouldn't have him as one of the middle 2. That leaves Jensen and Janelt by default, as I don't think Ghoddos is suited to that role either. It's then a choice between Canos and Fosu for the inside left position, and Fosu seems to be the lucky charm.

Longer term I'd like to see Janelt at left-back in a 4-3-3 in Henry's absence, but we can't move him out of midfield until Nørgaard is back.

Playing with 10 a bit risky? And no way I'd want to see Mbeumo at wing back barely defends as it is. Let alone at left back

We intended to play Ghoddos as a 9 replacing Maupay last season. Forss doesn’t look anywhere near ready for that role and I think Ghoddos’ movement means he’s a better option

Don't think we can change formation with no real training taking place and Thomas has rarely deviated from 4-3-3. Chances of rotation are strictly limited now so Roerslev at LB and perhaps play two central strikers and hope that our midfield or full backs can provide some additional width.

Looked at this and thought you’d taken leave of your marbles. Thought a bit longer and although I can’t see it happening agree that it would be worth a try

I don't know how true that really is. I've read the same as you, in that there isn't time for us to do this with games coming thick and fast. However, I also have read in the last few games that teams adjust their formations to 3-5-2 when they play us to employ the high press.

There is going to have to be a change of tactics though, as we have no-one that can play LB in the way Henry does and Forss is not going to be holding up long, high balls all afternoon. We simply can't play the same way with those IT and RH out and expect to win games.

Please keep Ghoddos back in Jersey Rd and play Zamburek

I agree - we just had a 21 unbeaten run in the league we shouldn't just abandon the system that got us there. Rico's injury is a blow and something we need to deal with in the weeks ahead. One defensive change we really need to make is ensure Pinnock plays left hand side of the defence.

If it’s decided that Toney is not 100% fit
I would go with most of your team but I’m not sure Forss is the lad for the Sheffield game . I do wonder if we played with
just Canos and Fosu up top, behind them Dasilva with Zamburek dropping in to midfield

It a minor injury according to Thomas so could we not get 70 mins out of him
It's already been quoted he's out for 3-4 games. (Not sure if that includes today). You saw what happened to a player today when you continue to play them without proper rest. Would you prefer Toney to play with his dodgy ankle for 70, really knacker it properly this time, then be out for the season?

Forss is not the solution but given the fact that we don't anyone else he probably is. A club with real ambitions to get in the premier league ?....what a sorry state for TF to deal with

The one criticism, well not criticism of the January transfer window, I always suspected letting Thompson and Dervisoglu go out on loan would come back and bite us. A team going for promotion should utilise all the available resources available. Losing those two left us a bit short in areas we are not covered well in.

No Toney,Henry, probably Norgaard, Josh and HD not fully fit I can't see us getting much from the next 3/4 games.

We reached the semi finals of the league cup with most the above not playing in most of the rounds. All is not lost. I am led to believe that Norgaard is close to fitness for the first team which is a massive boost. Maybe to early for Wednesday but expect he may be a sub for Stoke and starting against Norwich.

Needs must.
Three at the back (Pinnock, Reid, Mads), with Ghoddos playing off Forss up front.
The wingbacks and mids are simply down to fitness. If Henrik and JDS are carrying knocks, don’t risk them; there’s still a third of the season to go.
Much as I love the bloke, I can’t see how you can start Bryan.
Thomas earning his money this week. 😉
