Given the relative ease with which Ollie Watkins slotted into the role of central striker after having spent the whole of his first season with us playing on the wing, it might be worth considering playing Canos or Mbeumo up front. I'd favour Canos. Fosu could replace him as the wide player. Reports suggest that Pressley is highly promising, but surely it's too early for him to be plunged into a fight for promotion.

didn't someone say hes with the b team
There's been a short training video but I'm not sure I can recognise any of them! There's one taller than the rest with longish hair that looks like him but you don't know when the video was shot.

I would go with:

Raya

Dalsgaard Reid Pinnock Mads Bech

Janelt Jensen Ghoddos

Fosu Mbeumo Canos

There are goals in that team, and I think Bryan could do a decent job playing centrally. He's good in the air and is a very decent finisher. We will have to change the way we play to accommodate this, and play more balls in behind for him to run onto.

Ghoddos was looking alright when allowed to play in the middle of the park, and I think its worth giving him another go.

Crucial to me that we keep Janelt in the midfield as we need some bite there with Jensen and Ghoddos alongside him.

I'm not sure why anyone would want Canós at CF, unless he's a false 9 and plays in midfield. Out of the regular attackers, I'd say Mbeumo has more attributes to play centrally.

I think that Mbeumo has the lower-body strength and the pace to play as a central striker, either shielding the ball and laying it off, or spinning in behind. He's not going to win too many aerial duels though. So my team would be

Raya
Henrik, Reid, Ethan, MBS
Ghoddos Janelt Jensen
Canos Mbeumo Fosu

I think this will be likely be the team, except maybe Roerslev at LB.
You're right about playing a bit differently but it wasn't that long ago we did that and Ollie Watkins seemed to alright by it!!!

If we start all the regular names they will likely be burnt out for the Stoke game which looks the tougher of the 2 games.
Tomorrow I'd give Pressley a go and why not see what Bidstrup can do. He's highly rated I thought?

I agree - that's a decent lineup if we set up like that tomorrow night. A lot will depend on whether Bryan can be the focal point of our attack and whether we can adapt to play in a way that suits him. Our bench is going to be very, very thin though...

For his energy. Bryan has seemed lacklustre lately and he is so one footed, not physical enough. He's no Maupay or OW in the making. But fortunately not down to any of us to decide. And frankly at this stage who knows, it could work, only one way to find out.

As others have suggested perhaps best to rotate across the front 3 in a cunning attempt to confuse them!

If all injury reports are true, then

Raya
Dalsgaard Pinnock Sorensen Roerslev
Janelt Jensen Ghoddos
M'Beumo Canos Fosu (rotating front 3)
Subs: Daniels, Reed, Stevens, Zamburek, Pressley, Goode + 2-3 more B-Teamers

I reckon Kit Man Bob could do a job and hold it up top or maybe king Kev who of course used to be our very own Alan Shearer could still do a shift I reckon.

All joking aside I reckon try Mbeumo through the middle. I think Canos is better out wide and I do believe that the former has attributes to make a decent central striker but he's going to have no presence in the air and everything will have to be played to feet or balls in behind. It's a huge ask for the lad who has been struggling for form anyway.

Probably won’t happen but have been interested to see whether the 3/5 at the back would make us better as well as freeing Rico (moot point now) up a bit to be more attacking.

Can Reid play a defensive midfield role meaning we could still play 4-3-3, Dalsaard at RB and Roerslev LB. Then Reid holding m/f with Janelt and Jensen, floating top 3 of Canos, Mbuemo and Fosu. Really clutching at straws.

Ollie had most of a preseason to train into the central role. Not 3 days!

I think Daniels could hold the ball up front...

With our injuries this I would be tempted to play little man big man combo though. Pressely with either Canos or Mbeunmo

So injury crisis means:
Stu Wakefield
Cliff Crown, Phil Giles, karleigh Osborne, Marcus Gayle
Ras Ankerson, KoC, Matthew Benham
Sam Saunders, Bob Kitman, Banana
Surely Mads Tarrant before Banana?

Frank seems to have uncharacteristically revealed rather a lot of injury news in the press conference. One of the bits of news might be a bluff, or perhaps someone might be unexpectedly returning?

Could there be a chance that Toney plays? Has it been done before where our manager has come out and said that a player won’t be playing and then they have just to throw the opposition off? Or am I just being extremely hopeful 😂

Pressley to start.
Agreed, I can’t see how anyone can think Bryan can play CF, he’s not even playing well in his favoured position. At least Presley is the closest player available for selection skill set wise to Toney, his hold play looks decent from what I have seen of him playing for B team.

Did wonder why we'd show our hand to the opposition.
Maybe half of it's BS and we're in for a pleasant surprise or two

Don't know why we think that, judging from on here no one has any idea what lineup we are going to have.

Pressley, 6 foot five, 19, 11 goals for the B Team in not very long.
He really hasn't impressed me in the couple of reserve games I've seen him in. Looks the sort that you might send on loan to a Conference side for the season. Certainly not Championship level. But hopefully I'm wrong and just haven't seen enough of him because it looks like he's our main striker for the time being.

I see Fosu as one that might possibly be able to do an Ollie. He's quick, can finish and has bags of energy. He would be a real pain in the arse for any defence I reckon.

So no Forss, Henry, Da Silva. Hard to not be down in the dumps after that the injury update. Good opportunity for players to shine here but going to be tough. Without changing formation I reckon the below has a fairly decent chance of getting some points. I think it's all we have left but wouldn't be surprised if we go with 3 centre backs given the injuries to midfield and now the strikers.

Raya

Dalsgaard Reid Pinnock Roerslev

Jensen Janelt Ghoddos

Canos Fosu Mbeumo

Not a bad shout that. Canos has played at wing back, albeit on the right, but can play on the left. Would rather Ghoddos as striker as he’s looked reasonably sharp in and around the box.
