I agree. Baptiste in particular can start.

Apart from a couple (DaSilva, Mbeumo), I don’t agree with the common view that we look tired. We have enough left.

Emiliano was poor today and I think Jensen can flourish in this game where I’m expecting more space in midfield.

Raya
Dalsgaard Jansson(c) Pinnock Henry
Jensen Norgaard Baptiste
Fosu Watkins Benrahma
Looks about right. Also have a feeling Canos is going to play a significant part of the playoffs. His enthusiasm and freshness could make a difference.

Did Canos ever play 90mins before his injury? I'm sure he will play a part but I suspect it will be from the bench.

I always think Sergi is better starting as it sets the tempo and he's unpredictable, so disturbs defenders, even though there's often no end product. Sub him at HT if necessary but tell him he's got 45 minutes to be an Energizer Bunny. Bidwell won't know what's hit him!

I will not give a suggested lineup but I truly believe we need to mix it up. In football we often say we have been sussed and I am not sure that is true but in the last two games we have been out thought. The game against Barnsley and the way they played should of been happy days. They pushed up and we have attacking pace. In pressure games the winner is often the one the does the unusual so I would forget BMW and change the midfield as it clearly didn’t work in last two games

Just read the Reading v Swansea report and comments on the game. To me it seems they are happy to have reached the play offs but I'm not sensing they expect to progress any further.

I just don't get the running on fumes bit. Nerves, possibly, no room maybe. The big difference for me the last two games was the passing. We seemed to make mistakes and then the confidence to play fast accurate passing attacks didn't happen. Maybe the mistake in passing was due to tiredness? And if so, then I get it. Against two well organised loaded midfield/defences we still created more good opportunities than the opposition

Swansea will be a different proposition. Fans or no fans, the onus is on them to attack. I wouldn't mind seeing Roeslev instead of Henrik, but Henrik has been a good outlet for Raya in a lot of games, but not the last two. Roeslev provides an excellent overlapping option, but Mbeumo didn't use him the two recent games he started, and I don't know why; unless he didn't fancy having to run back if possession was lost. Has he lost some of his speed? A couple of passes to him have either been overhit, or he couldn't get there. Bryan is quality, but the only one I would be happy instead of him is a fit Canos. If he isn't fit enough for 45-60 minutes, then I haven't seen enough of Fosu or Valencia to have them start. I may be doing Fosu an injustice, he looks very good at unlocking tight packed defences, but not a speed merchant (with or without the ball). I don't see Swansea sitting deep. MArcondes or Jensen, I don't really mind. The former adds more defensively, but we miss him further forward if he's helping Norgaard. I haven't seen enough of Baptiste yet. I am sure he will be brilliant for us, but I haven't seen it. He seems to have an error in him most times I have seen him. Is he a direct replacement for Josh? I would start Josh, or if there really is an issue over him starting then I think I would rather see the three Danes.

Olli needs to start and keep it simple, until his superb touch comes back and restores the doubts he seems to be having.

Raya
Roeslev Jansson Pinnock Henry
Jensen Norgaard Marcondes
Canos Watkins Benrahma

But if Canos can't start, then it would have to be Mbeumo for me. Josh may well fancy 20 minutes at the end, rather than starting.

A fair few have included Baptiste in their starting eleven (including me!) but how many games has he actually started for us? Is it a risk to throw him in now? He is still quite young (though he doesn't look it!)

It's an interesting situation going into these playoffs. We are in my very biased opinion, The most talented outfit and most wanted scalp in this playoff group having taken points off all teams involved and being so close to beating WBA to autos. We have somewhat been found out by a high press this season, examples being Leeds at home and more recently Barnsley on Wednesday evening. I am confident Swansea will come to try and press us high up the pitch and force long balls up to Watkins and try to dominate our front three physically.

Ollies hold up play is excellent when into feet so Swansea will most likely be taking the aproach of trying to get the ball into him at chest height or above then jumping on second balls, breaking from midfield and overwhelming norgard. they will want to hit the spaces behind our very high defensive line as quickly as possible and the best way to do that is draw players central and then play it in behind. i feel an interesting idea which i haven't seen brought up as of yet on this threat (if i missed it my bad) is placing ollie back into his original wide position replacing bryan who is in a bad run of form. With this we could place Dervişoğlu as our spear head who is stronger from what ive seen at retaining possession when balls are played in higher then have said and josh interchange to allow said to come central from a wide position where he can have more space to work and let josh threaten to come in from the right and hit his worldies. Something like this

Raya
Dalsgaard Pontus Pinnock Henry
Norgaard
Da Sliva Jensen/Marcondes
Said Dervişoğlu Watkins

My thinking is With said and josh interchanging, Benrahma will be allowed to have more of an influence. Ollie can offer a very dangerous runner in behind Dervişoğlu who's hold up may be better for what i imagine Swansea's game plan will be after watching our last few defeats. And Bryan is a hugley threatening substitute. tired defenders cant handle his pace. i think if we can beat that high press we will open them up. They are a footballing side and no side in this division can out Football us on our day, especially if they are commiting their men so heavily to try and stop us building from our defensive third. That comes at the cost for them of light numbers in midfield which is where we can really hurt teams. Its a gamble that we wont be able to beat that press and if we do i can see us running riot. I can also see a 5 at the back working creating more options to play out however i feel this team may offer more offensive pressure and balance. Apologies for my poor grammar, writing has never been my strong point but i felt i should throw my thoughts out! :)

I know hes not been in great form but i would fancy Mbeumo cutting inside against JB.

Thanks IzakAndrews for your post. I am always surprised at how poor I am at reading a game and understanding basic essentials considering how long I have been watching football. I feel slightly more confident having read your analysis and think there is much merit in Dervisoglu starting on Sunday. For all that we have had a lot of squad options this season it has been difficult for squad players to get sufficient game time so that they can be fully up to speed and then fit in seamlessly. Difficult balance; particularly post lockdown. Some interesting decisions for TF on Sunday.

Agreed not time to experiment but we look at most dangerous when Benrahma has a freer role and can play closer to Ollie. Possibly with Fosu playing instead of Bryan then he will provide solid protection on our right allowing one of our midfield three to cover When Benrahma goes wandering so that Rico isn’t exposed. A fresh legged Baptiste can give us that extra injection of energy and solidity in midfield allowing either Marcondes or Jensen to concentrate on providing the ammunition for our front three. On that note whilst Marcondes provides us with a real weapon from bench I would start him over Jensen as I think him and Baptiste will help get us started on the front foot.

If we have a sluggish first 45 I’d like to see Thomas shuffle his pack at half time given the strength of our bench rather than leave till too late. We know Da Silva can change a game coming on from the bench and Halil gives us a different option altogether taking pressure off Ollie’s shoulders. I doubt no other side has the luxury of being able to use quality totally fresh players as we have in our squad so Thomas needs to know how best to use them.

So

Raya

Dalsgaard
Pontus
Pinnock
Rico

Norgaard
Baptiste
Marcondes

Fosu
Watkins
Benrahma

Subs
Daniels
Roerslev
Jeanvier
Jensen
Da Silva
Valencia
Canos
Mbeumo
Dervisoglu
