Over the course of the last couple of seasons, we've seen a number of youngsters make their debuts for the Bees, with Jake Bidwell making the position his own. That set me thinking - other than the players who turned out this season (eg O'Connor and Reeves) and loanees such as Jordan Rhodes - which Bees players pinned down a reasonably regular place in the side while they were still teenagers?

So far, I've come up with
Keith Millen,
Danis Salman,
Paul Walker,
Marcus Bent,
Jay Tabb,
Karleigh Osborne
Charlie Ide
(italicised names below added at others' prompts)
Andy Sinton
George Dobson
Mark Williams
Darius Charles

as well as possibly Michael Dobson, David McGhee and Carl Hutchings... but what others can folks think of, especially before this decade?

Sinton and George Dobson, yes. Asaba was 21 or so.

I'd have staked my life on Gayle, but it turns out he was 20 when he became a regular.

Masters played 12 games in a season when Nelson was suspended/injured; Fieldwick could have been in there as he played 10 or so almost consecutively, but then he got dropped and released.

Jake Bidwell?

Well, yes, but in my original post I'd excluded those who played this year.

Your Mark Williams and Darius Charles - good calls: I'd forgotten about them. Would they qualify - Williams as a bench warmer and Charles who played a load of matches in one and a half seasons and then moved on? I guess so...

My memory is that he was promoted from the youth side at the same time as O'Connor...and I remember thinking he was a far better player with a better future at Brentford...

Which is why I've found employment outside of football.

Williams as a bench warmer...

I remember Kev was nicknamed "Shearer" as allegedly the best finisher Evo had ever seen in training.

Perhaps Peter Broadbent - debut at 17 and moved to Wolves after only 16 games but was I think as near as dammit viewed as a regular at that point?

Also Paul Walker - played about 70 games for us, but would he be classed as a regular? I doubt it.

Paul Buckle but depends on definition of "regular" - not sure he makes it in for that reason

i can't believe half these players were that young when they played for us. Surprised with Sweetzer, Priddy and Sinton in particular, thought they were well into their twenties.

Well, you live and learn.

Some very good names there, but I think in some cases saying that they became regulars would be overstating the case. I'll see if I can find the ages of their debuts.

Roger Joseph 19 loads of games, yes
Hawley 16 loads of games, a definite
Bayes 19 but hardly any matches
Jamie Bates 20 so no
Ryan Peters 17 but not what I'd call a regular
Nigel Smith ? ?
Willie Graham ? ?
Cox 17 but don't think he played many games for us
Matt Somner 19 70 games
Stanislaus 19, yes
Driscoll not sure of his details
Sweetzer 18 yes
Roberts 20 or 21 when he joined us
Buckle may also have just squeezed in

For the older supporters, John Docherty, in his first stint at the club.
Was transferred to the then fairly mighty Sheff Utd after starting to establish himself at Brentford with some highly promising displays.
Johnny Hales might also be considered in this category, but, after a highly promising start, he became rather irregular...

Rob Peters? Was a trainee in the early 1990s and played quite a few games for the first team. Thought when I first saw him had as much potential as Marcus Gayle. Whatever happened to him?

The thread is a bit of a disappointment - I thought I was going to read about youngsters filling their homes with concrete...........
