I used to go to Tests and County games at both Lord's and The Oval during the '60s and '70s and liked them both but for very different reasons. Obviously, as a Middlesex fan, Lord's is my home ground and it's much easier to get beyond the general patronizing air of the place (especially in the tavern) if it's your cricket equivalent of GP. The Oval, mostly because of its Kennington location and the skeletal presence of the gasometer, was much grittier and down to earth. Also, because the final test of the series was played there - often with the series on the line - the games were usually more memorable.
