It’s strange when you analyse the batting but we have played all the best county batsmen that the cricket press have championed who have got their selection through runs.
Burns
Sibley
Pope
Lawrence
Jennings before them.

Cricket goes in generations Stokes and Root the cornerstones have another 4-5 years at this.
Pope is the future everyone agrees he just needs to get rid of the brain freeze.

Australia aren't at the levels from 15 - 20 years ago but at home you have to be good like India last time out to put them under.

Root to keep the score ticking and Stokes to play himself in if possible and have a tilt will give this game some pulse. If England go one day mode on this to get runs on the board then the Aussies will sweat. Headingley 2019 was not that long ago with Cummins, Hazelwood Lyon, Smith and Warner all watching the ball disappear over their head there are mental scars that can be reopened if Stokes has his day tomorrow And Joe gets his deserved ton in Australia.

I had the same hope following the Watford game, where I was really looking forward to the commentary on my way back that night, as Root and Malan were batting, and we looked like we could put up a fight......

I saw this the other day which is very revealing. Not only is Foakes the best wicket keeper in England but averages more than any other debutant for England in the last 6 years.
