Watched the morning session and the last 45 minutes and I enjoyed that. Good 5 days of test match cricket. Thought Crawley looked wonderful in the opening session and excellent spirit shown by England. It was good to finally see a contest although Australia have only themselves to blame for declaring so late yesterday.

Finally, no more talk of 4 day tests matches. Let’s not change test match cricket when it is wonderful the way it is.

A draw !

Finally the tide is turning.

Lump on an England win in the last test and a dominating spring against the Windies.

Interesting stat:

Scott Boland last 27 deliveries to Root - conceded 0 runs, 3 wickets. Definitely got Root's number. Melbourne was certainly not a one-off. Was the most impressive Australian bowler.

To do that with injuries to 3 really important batsman was decent, still can’t forgive the earlier shows and the Aus team go 3 up and slacken slightly.
Great effort, terrible tour.😀

Last 3 tours to Australia.
Lost 5-0
Lost 4-0
Losing 3-0, 1 test to go.
All 3 were bad and a pattern is emerging here.
At what point will the ECB decide to act and do something positive for our Test side.

I just despair that we (and the team).are celebrating a last wicket draw as though we have won, when we are 3-0 down in the series.
It really is that bad.

Reports say Woakes in for Anderson so Anderson can rest. Quite simply rest for what??!? If this is the case then bonkers.

In the blink of an eye the final test starts at 4am tomorrow. Will this be Root’s last test as captain? Will Silverwood survive? Will Anderson call it quits after this series? Will Root finally get a test century in Australia? Will England win? Will the cheat finally get a century in this series? Will Broad get Warner out again? Let’s see.

Day/ nighter are good in Oz as one can realistically see the final two sessions. Let’s hope it is competitive.

Was this supposed to be a day nighter when it was in Perth?

Nope, but by starting the match later in a +11 timezone, it gets it closer to the + 8 timezone for the Aussie TV

apparently Stokes cannot bowl even his usual few overs ; Foakes has again been overlooked as keeper; Root has backed Silverwood (manager) and Silverwood (manager) has given vote of confidence to Root (captain).

Foakes is back in Blighty so Billings was more readily available. Foakesy is expected to be the #1 pick for the upcoming Windies series.

So England win the toss on a green pitch during a d/n test and opt to bowl and ‘rest’ Anderson. When every other d/n test they have played in the last couple of years they have selected Anderson. I have no understanding about these decisions.

This below taken from Twitter that I wholeheartedly agree with:

The bowler who averages over 50 away gets a chance.

If he bowls well in would could be bowler-friendly conditions... more chances.

Rotation policy when the next Test is a while away.

Here itself one can assess some of England's problems.

My cricketing knowledge is low but that pitch looks one of the greenest I’ve ever seen. What’s the deal with that?

Wtf are England doing. The greenest pitch for years, grey skies, pink ball and Root is bowling in 32nd over.

Selection is awful again. We select a 4 man bowling attack with one of the bowlers just back from injury and another (Wood) historically very injury prone.

Absolute shambles.

Woke up to get some water at 3am and ended up watching the first hour of this match. Was expecting Australia to be all out for under 100. Like all tests this series England are losing the plot.

This wicket was tailored made for Anderson. I hope no one buys the story that he isn’t fit. He is.

Why can’t England just turn up on the day of the test and select the side on conditions they see in front of them.

In fairness this is a superb innings by Head. Good counter attacking batting and Australia scoring at over 4.2 runs per over.

Watching two contrasting test matches at the moment.

Ramps is pretty dry and I think Aggers was just trying to involve him in some bantzzzzz. Gower is great fun, always seems slightly stoned.

BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew: "This has potentially been one of the worst days of the series. England have basically been let down by batting throughout but today the bowling was depressingly poor.

"At 12-3, you'd want Australia at 140 or 150 all out - you don't want them to score too much more than that. Well, they have 100 more already."

Got to agree with him. The bowling selection for this match was decided ages ago (of course barring any last minute injuries). Root is the worst test captain out there. Right now I can't think of any one worse. They do tend to lose the plot so often. Also painful watching it on my phone.

Root is the worst test captain out there.

Yeah, I think you have made your opinion on that more than clear.

Who can replace him though?

Stokes doesn't want the job and who can blame him? He has enough to worry about with his batting, bowling and being our best fielder without lumbering him with the captaincy of a such a fragile side.

Apart from him, the rest of this lot are either on their last legs or not even guaranteed to start the next series.

So he is the captain by default as there is no one else. Not my problem but if England continue with Root then they will not progress.
