England literally threw in the towel in the last 30-40 minutes. That must be unacceptable. Let's face it Australia were one wicket away from 5-0 and they are a good side but nowhere near a great side. I can't remember even in the 1990s anything that was worse than this.

Everyone should have their central contract cancelled.
England & Wales need to start again. Invite the best players back into a squad. Not because they’re mates of the Captain or might not fit in. Just get the best we have together. If that includes Burns, Crawley etc. just pull out of tests for a while!

We have plenty of talent but I feel there is a mix of 2 things here:
Youngsters lacking confidence because they have a crumbling team around them(Crawley,Pope), aswell as Root who struggled in the last few tests
Being afraid to experiment and pick different players
Vince, Foakes and Livingstone all need to be given a chance IMO. Vince is a proven batsman in county and can open the batting. Foakes is by far England's best keeper,and one of the best keepers there are at the moment, and a capable batsman. Livingstone has proven he can do it in One-Day and in county, can bowl Leg and Off spin and with the likes of Buttler not performing, should be given a chance for me.
Hameed has his moments but isn't good enough.
Burns is the same really, sometimes he gets 50, sometimes he gets 0.
Buttler isn't our best keeper and can't bat sensibly in tests, he is an ODI and T20 batsman.
Bairstow seems to have been solid recently but in the grand scheme of things is usually poor, would like to see him continue though to recover his form.
Robinson is unfit as said by our bowling coach, needs to be a lot fitter.
Broad and Anderson are great bowlers but neither are able to bat competently.
We need to change things up and start giving chances to other players rather than the same 15/16 man squad every time

Shameful end. Need to change Ashes to 3 tests now. No one wants to watch one sided drubbings. Until the powers that be take a long look at the domestic game and prioritise tests and preparing of tests this is just the start of many more humiliations to come

Once we were 4 down, they played like they really didn't want to have to turn up tomorrow. Rather have a day off. The lack of application would put a schoolboys XI to shame.

The series has been hugely disappointing viewing. Before the series started, I thought it would be exciting as these were two flawed sides with Australia favourites yes but felt England could be competitive. Australia changing their captain was a game changer for sure as Paine was simply an awful captain.
All of 2021 and the rotation and selection has been so England can focus on two main goals and that was to win the T20 and the Ashes. They didn't achieve either. Let's make no mistake about it Silverwood has said many times this would be the most prepared team to ever go to Australia.
The selection has been a farce (just turn up at the ground and look at the pitch and select from there) and the captaining just simply awful. The tactics on the pitch also confusing. The body language of Root when Leach is bowling says it all and sets him a one day field and Stokes was horribly managed as a bowler, getting him to be fire down short stuff time and time again and what happens he breaks down. I think the expectations of Stokes was too much when he hasn't played any competitive cricket for over 6 months. Even the comms after the 1 day in this match criticising Robinson fitness. Whoever thought that was a good idea or was that a deflection of the poor bowling on the first day by England?
Yes the batting was poor and Root still hasn't scored a century in 14 tests in Australia and has failed to scored a century against Australia in the last three 5 test matches series. Australia have really got the number on him and with another away ashes 4 years away, unlikely to get an ashes ton in Australia. Will also be a grey mark on his career.
IPL is not the problem, only realistically Stokes who plays the IPL should be in the test team. Butler and Bairstow are great white ball cricketers but should not have been selected, although to Bairstow credit he scored England's only century.
Giles, Silverwood should resign and I hope for Root's sake he has a look in the mirror and takes some responsibility and gives up the captaincy. Let's see some fresh faces for the West Indies away series.
What ECB need to realise is that whilst The Hundred and The Blast bring in much needed monies, cricket is the second biggest sport in the UK and most would love to see a successful and competitive team. I do fear for test match cricket more so after the announcement yesterday of it's biggest supporter whom has a big voice.
As for Australia - they had players to come in and they did a job. Green was talked up a lot last winter but didn't produce but really showed his potential this series. A good find. Boland was a huge success as was Head whilst their bowling was too much for England. But honestly can't stand their team or their supporters.
Some highlights:
Wood was excellent. Bairstow flawless century.
Stokes is back and hopefully these 5 matches will help him kick on.
Neither of the cheats got a century and finally Smith's average is under 60.
Broad having a go at a robot but then bottling when facing Starc.
Gower commentary and his post match analysis today. Has been missed.
No more watching BT sport cricket. Missed Nasser and Atherton commentary.

No. England are probably about 5th or 6th in my view. Zimbabwe are arguably even worse than Ireland at test level and hopefully we'll get a chance to show that later on this year.
The last time England won a series in Australia they had proper preparation out there so that they were used to conditions out there before the 1st test. Something to think about which the ECB probably won't do.
Nothing fundamental will change with England's test team while the current regime is in charge at the ECB.
