OK, think I've calmed down after Monday's game now...was in pain for an hour after the final whistle I was so nervous!!

Anyway, looking at the table it would seem our best hope of staying up would be with the teams currently below us being the teams ultimately relegated (a few of the teams above us are hitting a bit of form.)

So I thought I'd find out who everyone else is playing...

BRENTFORD
Barnsley (a)
Wycombe (h)
Grimsby (a)
Bournemouth (h)

NOTTS COUNTY
Hartlepool (a)
Port Vale (h)
Brighton (a)
Oldham (h)

CHESTERFIELD
Port Vale (a)
Blackpool (h)
Oldham (a)
Luton (h)

GRIMSBY
Rushden (h)
Stockport (a)
Brentford (h)
Tranmere (a)

OLDHAM
Plymouth (h)
Wrexham (h)
Swindon (a)
Chesterfield (h)
Notts County (a)

STOCKPORT
QPR (a)
Grimsby (h)
Bournemouth (a)
Barnsley (h)

RUSHDEN
Grimsby (a)
Hartlepool (h)
Colchester (a)
Port Vale (h)

I reckon the key is avoiding defeat in the Grimsby game... and hoping Port Vale win their next few games!! But I think even after our great run it is going to go right to the wire.

Any thoughts?

I think Rushden are in deep poo!

If we beat Grimsby and Wycombe we should be OK

Rushden for fourth bottom for me.

Oldham could be in trouble with that run in, as could Stockport.

I get incredibly nervous just considering it...

I think County might escape though.

Two more wins for us should do it I think, particularly if one comes at Grimsby. One win and no defeats might JUST do it.

I think Stockport will be OK and we could be too if the team focus to the end of the match! The last day could be a winner as Bournemouth could be out of the play-offs and won't want injuries in a pointless last match.

I can't see Notts escaping now, they've dropped too far behind.

Rushden and Chesterfield are on poor runs, Chesterfield have shown they can win games but I think Rushden will drop.

I think we'll be ok, the players don't fear anyone and I always feel we can get a result.

If we remain unbeaten we'll definitely stay up IMHO.

I agree it doesn't look good for Rushden. Hopefully it won't go to the last game. Too many painful memories of that fateful Reading game, not so many seasons ago. At least it is in our own hands again.

I've got me Bicycle clips ready for Bournemouth !
I heard Grimsby have BIG problems with injuries. I think they had 10 1st teamers out for there last game.
My 4 to get relegated are:
Wycombe, Notts County, Chesterfield and ???? probably and hopefully Grimsby.
But as Stevie Coppell always used to say 'Lets just take one game at a time' and it's all in our own hands now (well at the moment any how)

There is no real way that you can predict results.. but I just did. I have made a best guess and how teams will fare in the last games and how many points I think they will pick up.

As a result of that I think we have to win two of our 4 games left and get 6 points. If we win today I think the gap will grow to over 1 game and we will need to beat wycombe to ensure the only way we go down is if we lose the last two and other teams below have to win their last two (if that makes sense).
If we lose today then it goes to the wire!

A win next week will take us to 52, which would ordinarally be enough.

However if we lose at Grimsby I suspect we'll need more than 52.

The team 4th from bottom may get 50+ this year.

Studying fixtures and the league table i predict he following based on pure speculation.

If we beat WW on saturday only a disaster would send us down.

My reasoning is thus..

If we beat ww we are on 52 points. I am basing my working on our position after the WW game but looking at all the other teams as if they still have 3 games left to show the impact of this game.

Therefore, we are on 52 points if we win this crucial game.

WW can't catch us.
NC would be 8 point behind with inferior goal difference. They would need to win all 3 games and we lose our last two to catch us.
Chesterfield, due to crap goal difference they will need to win all 3 of their games and hope we lose last two.

Considering notts c have to play away to brighton and home to oldham and chesterfield have to play 2 play-off chasing sides at home and oldham away it is unlikely that they will both get maximum points.

Based on that assumption (and only that) it seems that if we can beat WW then we are scrapping over the 4th relegation spot with grimsby, stockport, rushden, peterborough and oldham.

Also take into account that stockport play grimsby this weekend. If stockport lose then they will need to gain 4 points from their last 2 games to catch us. If grimsby lose or draw they will need to beat us and win their last game away to tranmere to catch us. This of couse assumes we lose our last two games.

Finally throw into the mixer that R&D are on a hidious run at the moment and would need to win two of their last 3 to catch us.

Overall I think we should know come next saturday who is the favourite for that last spot unless we fail to overcome WW. Personally I expect to see us do a job on them because we have real fire in our belly and the others around us are on a downward spiral and need to put together runs of 3 wins in order to catch us!

I've only done a quick calculation, but if EVERYTHING went our way on Saturday (we beat Wycombe, everyone else in the frame loses, apart from Stockport & Grimsby drawing with each other) then we'd go into the Grimsby game ony needing a point for safety, regardless of what happpened elsewhere.

Does that sound right?

.....I'll get my anorak :D

Because of goal difference, Peterborough are safe.

I dont fancy the chances of Rushden much and Grimsby's defence is so sh*te that its difficult to see them getting a result at Tranmere. (mind you if their defence is sh*te what does that make our attack). I expect Chesterfield to win.

Going to be incredibly nervy next week. A couple of quick goals would be nice otherwise we are all going to have to be on our toes to make sure the correct information gets spread around about the other scores not a load of horseshit false rumours.

I think it will be Rushden and Grimsby.

Rushden may improve and get a point, but Port Vale need the points too.

Grimsby looked poor and were fairly lucky, if we'd played well we'd have won. Tranmere have improved a lot and are on good form.

If they both lose we'll be safe. I fancy Chesterfield to win though.
