Yes, we were in the lucky end weren't we and conceded two deflected goals in the first half, one from Deon Burton who went to on to lose in the play offs with us. Add to that on two occasions our whole PO final losing team went to join Reading and Gillingham and achieved promotion/play off wins after leaving us. And one year we finished second on the last day of the season with only 1 auto promotion place on offer and lost in a shoot out to a tream who finished dozens of points below us.

Couldn't make it up.

Makes the current situation all the sweeter.
It's Brentford innit.

The 94/95 playoffs, when we finished 2nd but there was only one automatic promotion place that year, saw us lose to Huddersfield on penalties - but they finished with only four points less than us.

I believe we suffered similarly in 1958 when the League rearranged itself into Div 3 & Div 4. In those days we didn’t have play offs to blame though..

We finished twice on 2 occasions - only one went up from each of Third Division North and South so we missed out. But in 1958 Brighton cheated their way to the title as apparently at least one of their games were fixed.

Yes Brighton had a lot of help from Watford , Brighton winning last game at Watford 6 nil, which was enough for them to go up on goal difference, if I remember correctly

Not quite - they went up by 2 points. Always been puzzled by this - it was clear that Watford rolled over, but as it seems to have been a game in hand by Brighton and the last game of the season, I can't see why the win was so important - a draw would have been enough.

That could also be the start of the Watford hatred, and not the mid 70's.

Didn’t Stoke have get somebody in to exorcise the demon of that dressing room/end
Wouldn’t have thought so since port vale exorcised the curse vs Brentford a year previously ;)

Congratulations to everyone who contributed to us winning the prestigious 'Most Arrogant Fans' award from this Blades fan and master s**t stirrer.

Glad we finished above them as we are a better team, but maybe that's just my innate arrogance speaking.
They win the most cowardly little c*nts awards every year after they allowed some scrote to get away with punching Paralympian Andy Lapthorne to the floor while he was using his frame to get to the coach. I’m happy they don’t like us and for the record they’ll be towards the bottom of the table next season

Who are Sheffield United? The only club I’ve heard of from that area is Sheffield Wednesday.

Well, they have a point. They proved themselves to be a more than decent outfit and were the better side in both games. Overall, the two clubs finished level on points and were probably roughly equal in terms of playing strength. Some of our comments were complacent bordering on ignorant. It's time to be a little bit humble and admit that United were better than we expected.

I actually thought they would do well but fair to say some of the fan comments he quotes were a little dismissive. It was before the Birmingham 3 left and confidence in our squad was very, very high. I still thought we were marginally the better side at Bramall Lane.

:imwith: I thought we had all the possession first half without creating too many clear cut chances apart from the Spanish Brum player missing a side footed volley.
Second half they were probably the more likely to score again although how Vibe missed that header and Nico the follow up who knows. I thought we did have some incredibly over confident posts before the game.
I think they have too many past it players and unless they make a number of changes this summer I think they will face an uphill battle next season.

Loads of people on here said they could challenge for the top 6 and gave them credit after both games against us. That fella has just picked out the negative comments.

I suspect the guy has had his nose put out of joint by his own arrogant outrage that little old Brentford (regularly finishing in the top half of the champtionship) should dare to think they have a chance against his massive club, newly promoted or not. I suspect you'll find all the normal arrogant posts of the supposed bigger clubs pre matches agaist them saying "we should be beating teams like Sheff Utd" but his arrogance couldn't stomach it from us despite it being a not unreasonable expectation to have.

Actually I thought some of our pre-match postings before the 1st game last season were a bit OTT and left us open to be shot down as indeed we were.

I don’t think that’s true I’m afraid. Fairly sure we were up the unlucky end for Vale and the ‘lucky’ end V Stoke.

Talking of lucky/unlucky ends. We've always been housed at the same end at Wembley (both old and new) v Wigan, Crewe, Carlisle and Wigan and lost ie. to the right of the royal box.

Runner-Up three times?

1929/30,1957/58 and 1996/97, and never went up.

Runner-Up 2013/14, promoted. :)

I guess this is the most appropriate place for it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPTcsQ1bYWI&feature=youtu.be

2 Ipswich fans giving their previews on all of the Championship teams this season, including us. Some teams they've only given about 7 minutes, but ours is 21!
Really interesting stuff. I've come across that Benjamin Bloom lad before on twitter, knows his stuff. Worth watching his review of the Norwich game at Carrow Road from last season too.
