Darren Bent in the Times today:

"Brentford
Position 5th Points 53 GD 27 Form WWDLWW
Their attacking trio really excite me and they are why Brentford will sneak promotion via the play-offs to crown their proposed move to their new stadium next season. Ollie Watkins is joint-top scorer (with Mitrovic) in the league and he complements Saïd Benrahma and Bryan Mbeumo. Watkins is technically good and physically strong but what has impressed me is that he naturally takes up positions to score — the mark of a good forward. He was impressive last season when he caught the eye of Crystal Palace. Mbeumo, the 20-year-old Frenchman, has adapted remarkably quickly, with 12 goals and five assists.
Average position of remaining opponents 13th
Prediction 4th — play-off winners
"

He has West Brom to win and Fulham 2nd (but also Bristol City 6th!)
Watched the Debate on Sky last night - Paul Merson tipped us to finish 2nd but Clinton Morrison predicted Fulham 2nd and Forest to win the play-offs (his son is in Forests' academy so I suspect that may have played a part in his decision...)

this man is one of the sensible lot.
....the chap obviously watches and appreciates good football....but....we as Brentford supporters already know that what he's saying is correct...why do some continue to seek validation.

To be fair JCMc, I know I'm a bloody good looking geezer, but it's still nice when a tasty bird tells me I am.

Not sure where to post this and haven't got permission to open new thread, so.... Even though we lost on Saturday, it was still one of my best away days for a long time. Brentford are a cracking team, but it was the friendliness and hospitality of the fans that made it a great weekend....regardless of the result. All day long the Brentford fans and locals were fantastic, from pre-game in the Globe, to a very late night in the awesome Magpie and Crown. As a Boro fan i'd like to say a big thankyou to everyone at Brentford, and wish you all the very best for this season, ultimately ending in promotion :)

Nice post. Good luck for the season. At least you came to GP to have a go and not sit back.

...glad you had a great day out at arguably the greatest old skool football ground still standing....the sad news is you'll never ever repeat it....Bob Mortimers line...'they come at you like bastards'....one of the funniest lines I've ever heard spoken about BFC...good luck fella.

Nice post, well done, glad you enjoyed your day out, as others had already said at least you came and played football and not park the bus, but you kept us sweating until the end, got chatting after the game to a couple of Boro fans who also were very complimentary of our supporters and club, pity it's the last visit for you all at GP, We move into our new ground for the start of next season, hopefully in the Prem, but if not why not pop down again to visit the new ground, I'm sure the welcome will be just as warm, we are only a mile away from GP, so still plenty of good watering holes about.

Glad you enjoyed your day out at GP.

I’ve always been quite fond of Middlesbrough and their supporters since our Play-off Semi Final at The Riverside a number of years ago. They progressed to the final and a pitch invasion ensued however cleared the pitch to give the chance for the Brentford players to come back out to clap the travelling support and vice versa following an amazing season for us. I know it would have been easier as they won, but the home fans also clapped our players off which I thought was really classy.

Thanks for the compliments and glad you enjoyed the day.
Unfortunately I can't and never will be able to forgive Boro for the appalling behaviour of the team in the play off semi final at Griffin Park. One of the most cynical and disgraceful displays of gamesmanship I've ever had the misfortune to witness.

Some 'interesting' comments from Leeds fans on the Guardian's write-up here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/11/brentford-leeds-championship-match-report

Particularly enjoyed: "I find the whole Brentford outfit quite arrogant, from the players' cheating and diving, to the fans acting as if they are some massive club. It is seriously impressive what Benham has done for the club on such a small budget and turning them into promotion candidates and most likely with the way the club is run, getting them into the Premier League. However it seems to has gone to their head a bit and they need to take a step back and look at how far they have come and take joy from it."

Pot, kettle etc. 16 years is it now without being in the top division?

I think generally comments from Leeds fans can be disregarded. Most of them seem utterly mad.

Absolutely. Any set of fans still singing about "Manchester" and "Champions of Europe" after all these years of underachievement are seriously deluded!

I though the Leeds fans were decent last night.
I’m guessing that it was quite selective in terms of ticket allocation.

Don't agree with the first sentence as no way are we arrogant, and we don't see ourselves as a big club, we'll leave that to others who were a big club over 40 years ago.
Middle part was nice praise.
Most of us can't quite believe how far we have come in a short space of time and certainly take joy from it.

Personally I think there are two grains of truth in that statement from Leeds fans.
TF’s pre match comments about Leeds fearing us really didn’t help and came across as an empty threat.
Secondly it was way too quiet.
It was Leeds, one of the last ever GP games under lights, the prize was going Top 2.
Yet so many simply stood/sat in silence like it was all gonna fall into our laps.
We’ve come a long way but let’s not get complacent.

I'll agree with that, we were a little complacent, and possibly TF was as well. I thought it would be an absolute cauldron of fire atmosphere, giving them a hard time every second. It didn't really happen...if they'd been 6 points clear maybe it would have been more. Unfortunately it didn't really come across at all...

We need to take on board what they say. They are champions of europe, don't forget.

We are currently equivalent to them in the same division for the last 5 seasons separated by just 2 points. Oh and we also have never been champions of europe. So the same profile and recent levels of success as them. Bunch of self righteous t**ts if you ask me!

You are doing what Leeds fans did – taking one sentence out of context.

They are generally a deluded bunch but to retain and nurture the delusion and sense of entitlement for such a long period is, quite frankly, amazing, deserving of a thesis.

As a side note, in the gentlemen's facilities in McDo's prior to the game, one came in, took the stall next to me and dropped his jogging bottoms to the floor to do what he came in for, while muttering to himself all the time... certainly something that made me hurry.

Still haven't beaten us in 70 years at GP. OK I know we've hardly played them in that time but still a club who thinks they are that big should be doing better against in small town bus stop club like ours.

The average Leeds fan. Unable to differentiate between “ they’re” and “ there”.
Once could be excusable, but 3 times?
They’re ( note correct usage) delusional!
As for one of the northern 🐒 s accusing us of cheating, please refer them to the comedy of Ayling suggesting he was punched. Dirty?
Try that c**t Dallas kicking Ollie’s knee and the assault on Jeanvier.
I despise the club. How anyone who witnessed the depths to which they dragged the beautiful game in their “ golden period “ during the 70’s, could actually be proud of the club is beyond me.

Gooner in my office has just told me he is willing us to go up and if it is at the expense of Leeds so much the better.

He also said to me after watching last nights game he liked the look of one of our midfielders, so I asked him if the midfielder was black or white, he said black. Imagine the look on his face when I told him we had nicked him off Mr Wenger!!!!!
