It never ceases to amaze me how fans of a club with no ability to generate their own talented players feel any satisfaction from knowing they have to pay top dollar to a club they spend the rest of the season looking down on.

Hopefully we'll get two good results against them this season and finish above them.
Well sell them fish, but not teach them to fish....

There was also a Tweet from a so called Villa fan, who hoped Canos would never play again.

Ex work colleague and Derby Fan text me to say he'd been to the game. Here's his views

Brentford surprised me after losing those 3 players on deadline day. Their work ethic was superior to Villas, both full backs had great games, lack of punch up front but unlucky not to get 3 points. Great backing from the away support, about 1000 top. Villa looked a team of big time Charlies.

He goes on to say he'll be at GP for the Derby game but it won't be 4-0 this time lol. Could be a draw or one goal either way. Optimistic old soul ;-)

He was spot on.
Dalsgaard didn't make the errors diving in he had in previous games and looked good and Rico Henry was a world-beater.
Up front we weren't clinical enough (and probably needed to do a bit more off the ball running but that was about it).

Woodsy was superb and heard numerous Villa supporters commenting on him bossing things (again) as I walked round the stadium after the match.

Before the game Villa fans in Mick Woods Victoria club told us after two superb performances against them last season and they were hoping to buy him before now.
Make that 3 games out of 3 now and even more fans on their podcast demanding they buy him in January to replace Whelan.
I fear we will lose him but not on the cheap.

I'd not heard of any of their players tbh but their fluidity was outstanding at times.

Nice little club

Wondered who he was, couldn't see players named on scoreboard. Best player on the pitch.

They play great football and have for a few years now.

I'd like to see what Dean Smith could do at a bigger club with some cash to spend. Good up and coming manager.

They take a gamble on players that most fans who follow the lower leagues would pick out as being the obvious ones to step up.

Ollie Watkins the latest, Gray had been scoring loads for Luton. Hogan for Rochdale.

Always seem to play good football Brentford, even back when they had Warburton.

There right winger number 20 tore Reach a new one.

Best side I've seen so far and should have been out of sight at half time. We were poor but let's be honest they were good

They reminded me of that decent Doncaster team a few years back, that were good at passing in triangles. I'd say both Forest and QPR looked more of a threat really. Don't get me wrong they were easily the better side 1st half, but when we stepped up a bit in the 2nd I thought we had too much for them.

This.

Ryan Woods dominated the midfield in the first half and controlled the tempo of the game by dropping into the back 3 to bounce the ball. Hooper and Lee didn't know how to deal with him and left him with the freedom of Hillsborough for 45 minutes. Credit to Carlos (I don't say that much) as he obviously saw this and got Lee to man mark him in the second half.
This was doing my nut in. After about 5 mins you could see what was happening, Hooper looked like he was trying to get someone to press the lad but to no one took any notice. Everything was going through Woods, as like you say he had the freedom of Hillsborough and they should have been out of sight by half time. As soon as we came out for the second half you could see Lee was right up on Woods and for a while Brentford did not know what to do - they started going long and giving the ball away and we took control.

CC will have forgotten more than I will ever know about tactics and tbf I know next to sweet F.A, but why did it take us 45 mins to react to something that was so blindingly obvious, especially if you are sat high up in the stand?

I read a post on a Derby site last night where he had a pop at someone saying a point at our place was rubbish, he went onto say that he'd be amazed if they finish above us, I like posts like that.

I don't like being above the radar! What happened to "it's Brentford ffs" or "we should be beating teams like Brentford"?

I think we’ve been on the radar all season. Nobody has set up against us expecting a win (nearest have been Boro fans, but I don’t think Monk agreed with them before or after the game). I was just rereading the bbc report of our game against Wolves and their manager is quoted saying we were in a completely false position and he’d said this to Smith.

Perhaps it took us a while to get going in part because nobody playing or managing in this division underrates us any more.

I remember Mick Mccarthy saying something similar after Ipswich too - how he needed to set up that way or we'd run rings around them with our passing and we were in a false position.

It’s flattering that they’ve got a thread about us. If we started one about them I don’t think it would be quite as complimentary.

Yes, I would say other teams consider us a top 10 side and treat us with the respect that deserves.

From Bristol City:

Plenty of positive comments to make you smile in there.
Jesus christ, that has got to be the most reasoned impartial and factually correct opposition fans forum I have ever read. Even some opinions around being a selling club etc are hard to argue.
Well I never. This link should be posted on the match report thread every time we lose when the usual gang show up for a moan, I can't remember their names because they haven't posted for 9 games now.

Expect lots of patronising from massive Leeds today
How about this one?

I remember quite a few years ago (probably around 20 plus) sitting on a bus from Victoria London to Reading. We drove past a little football club called Brentford. I remember thinking 'what a small football club....but great that it has support'....and it belongs somewhere in the football league.' This 'little' football club has just run absolute rings around Leeds United! For crying out loud! I am angry, pi**ed off and embarrased tonight. We are talking about Brentford (Brentford!) for flips sake....sorry, but TC out for me.... a very very pi**ed off Swan. Go now! Go back to your Cyprus league where you belong!
We should've banned him, his whippet and his huge chip on the shoulder from London in the first place.

What's the frequency for Radio Leeds?
West Yorkshire Sport Daily is a great listen, and Adam Pope and match summariser Noel Whelan (plus their Huddersfield Town.Correspondent Paul Ogden) are always complimentary about us, a very un one-eyed bunch to be fair

Couldn't tune in last night...what did Radio Leeds think of our performance? And the GPG? And the fine town of Brentford? Presumably they were as enamoured as the last time they witnessed a footballing masterclass.
