Probably the same way we always moan about Leeds being loved and on TV all the time.I do find it weird that fans of other clubs sometimes hold it against us that commentators like us...how is that our doing!?

No that’s totally different and completely valid moaning because it’s Leeds!Probably the same way we always moan about Leeds being loved and on TV all the time.
However, I do seem to remember us getting into the playoffs once with a negative goal difference.Huddersfield's promotion a few years back, and subsequent survival, was a freak occurrence that only happens once in a millenia. I genuinely can't find the last time a team was promoted with a negative goal difference.
No. 2004/5. GD -3. Finished 4th. lost to Sheffield W in the play-off semisHowever, I do seem to remember us getting into the playoffs once with a negative goal difference.
Was it when we played Huddersfield in the semis?
Can anyone join this conversation Jon?No. 2004/5. GD -3. Finished 4th. lost to Sheffield W in the play-off semis
Had exactly the same experience for exactly the same reasonYep I had the Sheff wed commentary on Follow. Didn't want to try and change it to our commentary in case I lost the whole thing. It was actually really good. Some bloke that sounded like Mark Ratcliffe and John Pearson an old player. They were almost embarrassingly deferential to us, couldn't even remember briefly who beat us in the play off finals, and couched their disappointment with the result in terms of expecting us to out play them.
Amazing really, I would say 80% of the division think this. What progress we've made.Yep I had the Sheff wed commentary on Follow. Fair point. No that’s totally different and completely valid moaning because it’s Leeds!
There does seem to be something about us that entices young fans. My cousin (17) already sounds like a moany old gitI’m a teacher and 2 significant things happened in class this week:
1. A 14 yr old Chelsea supporter, was talking about Brentford as a team that should and will be playing in the premier league. With total conviction and sincerity.
2.A 17 yr old with an emerging interest in football, said They had started following Bees as they drove past the new ground on the M4 about 6 months ago, took an interest and started to research BFC.
it seems there is a shift in the tides of perception happening in the younger generation.
I know we don’t need anyone’s approval, but given the indifference I have previously encountered around BFC from others, even this brought a bit of a lump to the old throat.
both pupils will get full marks in their next test.![]()
Yep we attract that type of person. Must be in the official supporter description. There does seem to be something about us that entices young fans. My cousin (17) already sounds like a moany old git![]()
Not sure it’s been completely busted, Fulham and West Brom both did it last year.I think we've moved from #teamslikebrentford to earn some respect from other Championship fans as they're learned a bit more about the way we operate and watch our clear style of play. The idea that you can use parachute payments or creative accounting by a deep-pocketed owner to buy up ageing Premier League players and walk to promotion has been busted long ago.
But both brought in younger players on loan, not PL has-beens.Not sure it’s been completely busted, Fulham and West Brom both did it last year.
Not sure that’s strictly true, off the top of my head:But both brought in younger players on loan, not PL has-beens.
OK, OK! The players that had a significant effect though were the younger loanees, I think those are lessons to be learned by those with deep pockets. Not sure that’s strictly true, off the top of my head:
West Brom: Charlie Austin, Hal Robson-Kanu, Jake Livermore and Gareth Barry
Fulham: Anthony Knockhart and Harry Arter
Don’t get me wrong I agree that the sustainable way to secure promotion and long term success and sustainability is the way we (and a few others) are doing things but, unfortunately, still think those with parachute payments have a massive advantage and will continue to populate a high number of the promotion places.OK, OK! The players that had a significant effect though were the younger loanees, I think those are lessons to be learned by those with deep pockets.
Some enlightened comments on there.Nice comments about us on ‘The Oafcake’

STOKE CITY v BRENTFORD | Oatcake Fanzine
Could be a tough game. They won well last night with Toney bagging another pair. Not sure what the fitness situation is but I’d go with Davies Smith Baath Soutter Foxoatcakefanzine.proboards.com
Agree, but should we end up getting promoted and succeeding in the premier league those teams we were challenging or finishing above there would soon be sick of us too.I think people liked what little old Brentford were doing at first, howewever a lot of Championship sides are sick of the sight of us now. Most premier supporters would love to see us up there as its a great story.
How's Maupay doing for them?Someone on the sheff United forum calls us business model fc![]()
They'd as good as signed him, if you read their forum, hence my comment.A couple of my mates said they wish they had gone for him rather than McBurnie.
....apparently Toney is the new Maupay on that Blunts forum.A couple of my mates said they wish they had gone for him rather than McBurnie.
A large part of this post is completely off-topic. Please stick to what other club’s fans think and say about the Bees.OwlsTalk thread posted on 23 October i.e. after our victory over them:
My take on Brentford
Broadly complimentary about Bees (if a little misguided about Warburton!). Thread dissolved more into a discussion about themselves, as usually happens, with most expressing optimism for their next 3 games, hoping for anything between 6 and 9 points:
Sat.24 Oct. Sheff Wed 0 v 1 Luton
Wed.28 Oct. Rotherham 3 v 0 Sheff Wed
Sat.31 Oct. Winless Wycombe v Worthless Wednesday
A defeat on Saturday would really hurt them - and WWFC must be due their first win sometime.
I looked on there yesterday. What an awful site. Difficult to find anything of note (or indeed anything at all).Just been on Luton Outlaws... not only does it date from the Millennium but also there seems to be very little about the game yesterday. They're a seriously weird lot.
Had a look on there myself.I looked on there yesterday. What an awful site. Difficult to find anything of note (or indeed anything at all).
I did spot that they think we spent £70M on players, I'm not sure where that came from. Last window, it was only Goode; Toney; Ghoddos; Janelt, which I'd guess was under £10M initial outlay (£1.25+£6.5+£1m (loan)+£0.5).I looked on there yesterday. What an awful site. Maybe they added what we received and what we paid together.I did spot that they think we spent £70M on players, I'm not sure where that came from. Last window, it was only Goode; Toney; Ghoddos; Janelt, which I'd guess was under £10M initial outlay (£1.25+£6.5+£1m (loan)+£0.5).
... or maybe what we've ever paid.Maybe they added what we received and what we paid together.
The 14 that played cost just under £30m in transfer fees, from what I can work out....I did spot that they think we spent £70M on players, I'm not sure where that came from. So ollie watkins is better than all of them put togetherThe 14 that played cost just under £30m in transfer fees, from what I can work out....
Not quite! £28m. Once Villa stay up and he gets his England call up, then it’ll be about the same!!So ollie watkins is better than all of them put together![]()
Yes I did query that on the thread where the Jones interview is , he said we have brought players at £20 and £30 million.Getting mixed up with salesI did spot that they think we spent £70M on players, I'm not sure where that came from. Perhaps he meant we bought £20m and £30m players (Ollie, Said), we just didn't pay that much for them?Yes I did query that on the thread where the Jones interview is , he said we have brought players at £20 and £30 million.Getting mixed up with sales
I think it would be hard to get to £70 mil spent , over the last 10 years on players
I reckon Colin Murray is a closet Bee. Darren Bent was also drooling over us. You could tell he would’ve loved to have been playing for us in that team....Just watch Nathan Jones - Luton Manager- post match interview on their site. So full of praise for us, and the guys on Quest last night, we were actually the main game.
A surprisingly interesting watch. Seeing the highlights from pitch level is a good reminder that the game is much harder from the players' eye perspective than it sometimes might seem from the spectators' perspectives, especially on TV coverage which deliberately gives a much more strategic view of events than any player could get other than by their own internal modelling of pitch geography rather than the foreshortened perspective their eyesight alone will give. Those long cross field passes are played effectively blind. Interesting also seeing the Sorensens having a chat walking back in and the general body language of the players.Apologies this post may fall on two counts - the link may have been posted before and strictly it is off topic - but this video from the Norwich City YouTube site shows gameday at our new home from the away teams perspective. It is quite long but fascinating for us fans desperate to experience matchday at LR.
Possibly, but he's also a (known) Liverpool fan, since childhood.I reckon Colin Murray is a closet Bee.
Not sure I understand all that stuff with harsh tags on.Not really your typical "fan", but Mark Taylor is an analyst at Infogol, and as a Stoke City supporter, he covers the Championship quite a bit:

In an article yesterday for the 'Stoke Sentinel' discussing the Potters' chances this season, he notes that:
"Brentford currently have the best combination of key performance indicators, followed by the three relegated former Premier League teams, while Wycombe are only gradually coming to terms with a step up from League One."

I'd say his Twitter feed is worth keeping an eye on.
