I am tempted to sign up to their forum and explain it to them. How many of their squad would get in our team? I'd have Buendia (who most of their fans do not rate!) but aside from him no one.

I'm sorry but they also spent £75m in the 3 PL seasons (all PL) prior to playing us first time around in the championship and a further £50m+ of which £38m was in their first summer since coming down (according to soccerbase).

And fails to realise that today we had possibly only 5 first team out there initially. The reason we’ve been getting the better of them over them last few years. Which the Villa fan fails to understand is that, we are just better than them. Constantly having the upper hand over the last few seasons confirms that. He will understand and get it in a while.

To be fair I think if we stay up the second season is always difficult and a test of how much we can improve the squad. Lots struggle because they either underestimate the necessary continuous improvement or just make poor recruitment decisions. I don’t think either of those are major risks for us but actually achieving those improvements is hard and we’re well on everyone’s radar. Such fun!

I think that can happen for teams that do something surprising which opponents are not set up to deal with (eg Sheff U) or have a work rate others aren’t expecting (Leeds- but now all the good teams run as much as them). But we’ve had a fairly simple underlying set up with generally well thought out specific targeting of opposition weakness and that’s not really something to get found out, it’s just good management. Unlike some we know we’re not yet established enough just to play our own game.

This season we have played more direct and that has taken people by surprise after our style in the Championship.

We are more than likely going to go back to something on a similar basis to our Championship style next season if we stay up. So that's a different style.

By the third season we'll be in the fight for European places no matter what style we play.

I see your point as people may get used to the big PL games! However in our case we've attracted a new, vibrant, younger fanbase to add to what has already been there. As a result I feel BCS will continue to be 'the place to be' and as a result will hold it's atmosphere, in fact as we move to safe standing in the West Stand the atmosphere might even be improved.

Exactly, we’ve turned the whole bus stop in Hounslow thing around completely in our favour. Even some Bees fans grumbled at the “lack of ambition” (sic) about BCS ending up at 17k rather than the still small 20k, but Shearer on MotD got it spot on last night- it’s perfect for us as a club, we fans get the club and the club understands and appreciates us. We don’t need to willy wave a 60k enormodome or a bunch of achievements in ancient history.

It's depressing that Brentford are so far ahead of us now when we were clearly superior to them last season. If any further proof were needed of Webber's failure over the summer, this is surely it.

They really aren’t that good. A few positive results early on has a huge impact. I do like them as a club, they have a few players who are very limited in their team, who you can see them upgrading quite quickly. I love the way they go all out attack when they are taking corners, it is great to watch, they are just backing themselves to recover if it goes wrong.

I watched some of the game and both sides were pretty bang average at best, Brentford were very lucky with their winner which took a deflection to take it over the keeper.

No way are they 13 points better than us and it's hugely frustrating position to be in, but they have a very solid if unspectacular group of players. They seem to have had a game plan right from the start whereas we spent so much time faffing and farting around trying to decide on the right formation, which back four, and who plays in midfield.

FCM's time in the CL helped us so we did have a plan for the PL and it changed significantly from the way we played in the championship. One of Rasmus's interviews over the summer talked about what they learnt from FCM playing in the CL and the type of player and system required for elite competitions. We were one step ahead of Norwich and Watford from day one and the results show this.

Off the bat, I don’t think we are or ever have been a quiet support.
We already know the advantage it gives us. The club know, the players know and the media know, so why would we ever not want to live up to that challenge.
Safe standing will further increase the West Stand noise imho.
There’s a saying that if you do anything for 90 days it becomes a habit. I think the atmosphere at BCS is already a habit.
I’ve seen more vociferous support from demographics who were perhaps quieter at GP. I’m thinking New Road/North Stand here. I’ve been to 5 games this season all in the North Stand and it’s louder than New Road by a long way.
Then you’ve got acoustics yadda yadda.
Also, I think Bees fans more than most know where we have come from and how lucky we are to ever let the novelty wear off. Especially with the pervading feeling in society at large to enjoy life to the fullest since the plague turned up and stopped fun stuff.
Personally, I think we’re known now as a loud support (regardless of what other fans/people may say or admit) and I cannot see any reason for it to change, on the contrary in fact I can see the atmosphere staying the same as it is now or increasing.

Imagine if Forest came up!

My imagination's not that good.

My friend is a Forest fan and is 37 years old, same as me, so they have been outside of the PL for approximately his whole adult life. This summer I said to him, when Forest get promoted in 2074 the TV cameras can zoom in on him, a 90 year old man smiling in the stands a la Derek Burridge at our game, when they finally return to their "rightful place"
Sadly (or maybe fortunately) he is not one of those annoying deluded fans, and has little expectation of seeing them back there any time soon.
