Would I be right by saying a golden rule is to never buy anyone on the back of having one good international tournament? John Jensen springs to mind
Real Madrid paid £63m to Monaco for James Rodrigues after a stellar 2014 World Cup, and on a six year contract too.

Decent enough player, I suppose, but never the Galactico they thought they were getting.

May have paid back a chunk of that with marketing (his number of instagram followers is insane) but definitely a footballing disappointment

Yep, feels like the norm is now:
- 48hrs before official confirmation, we'll see a tweet along the lines of "I'm hearing Brentford are very close to agreeing terms with..."
- cue 24 hrs of retweets and people saying it would be fantastic deal for both parties, especially if that's the price
- Finally a tweet of chewed up biro in tattooed hand, done deal
You missed out "has been spotted in Syon Park" , a vital stage in any transfer.

I'm missing any postings from Magic on this thread. Is he still shell shocked at our playoff win or just happy with Toney and Forss? Hope he is OK.
Please don't tempt fate. He's already been on pulling sad face emojis.

Although this doesn't strictly apply to the two windows rule I have to say I was impressed after watching Luka Ivanusec in his brief cameo at Hampden Park yesterday. Two yrs into a 5 yr contract at Dinamo but probably destined for a move higher up the food chain in the next yr.

I can see why the DOFs went big with that £6m bid in Summer 2019, really is an exciting talent and totally Brentford in his attacking movement, etc.

I don't want to start a dedicated "suggestion" thread (I find them annoying on here!) so just chucking this in the general transfer stuff section.

Are we doing loans up here in the Prem or will it be sticking to the mantra of our own players is the way forward? The left back area could be bolstered by Brandon Williams from Man U perhaps. He's 20 years old and played 20 ish first team games which surprised me, although I haven't watched the Prem much.

They are looking to send him out but have also gave him a 4 year contract last summer so obviously that plus first team appearances shows the level he is at and future improvement likely.

He is presumably only going to get loaned to a team looking for a first choice left back

Does he have to self isolate for five days before being allowed to post on the GPG?

Very impressed with Swedish striker Alexander Isak last night. 21 year old 6.4" striker. Maybe Pontus can have a word ?;)
And now Liverpool and Arsenal are looking at him !

Yes, sorry - crap joke.

It’s just the “Must be B-Team?” comment that follows after a large number of transfer rumours has been making me laugh. Jack Tucker (“B-Team?”) - the guy has played over 60 games in League 1. I know we’re Premier League now but surely someone like that isn’t going to join a B Team?

Indeed. Brentford are the 50th Premier league club since 1992, meaning more than half the teams have had their chance with many not returning
We are also the 11th club beginning with B.

Barnsley
Birmingham
Brighton
Burnley
Blackpool
Bolton
Bournemouth
Blackburn
Bradford and
Bastard Fulham

3 previous clubs have lasted 1 season and never returned.
4 clubs have lasted 2 seasons only.

Neco Williams available. £10m.
Now, who needs a right back?
He’s got the unusual record of having played as many Internationals as league games (unusual for people who’ve actually played either- obviously I’ve also played the same number of both at zero).

I’d offer 5m + a sell on. He’s good, imo, and covers both full back and both wing back spots

Never mind a sell -on, Liverpool won't be selling him without a buy back clause I wouldn't think.

I've been debating in my head, brexit aside, is recruitment now easier for us as we have more budget, or harder because even with the increased budget its harder to get the sort of targets were now aiming for?

Probably a bit of both but I'd back Phil and Ras to make the right calls.

Can play either side. Definitely has talent not so sure about his defensive abilities but that may come with more first team game time and one on one coaching.

I think it's considerably more difficult. We're fishing in a smaller pool where players are more noticeable. We need some who will be able to contribute in a very short period, although we still have the backroom skills to recruit for development it's still a smaller set that will be attractive to us. The risks increase with the potential rewards.

Wonder if we'll be back in for that Larouci kid from Liverpool we were linked with before. He would be a useful back-up/rotation option with Rico

Yes, he looked like a very attacking LB, very quick. Seemed right up our street. Is out of contract at the end of the month. Leeds were v interested too though...

In the Premier League, I'm my opinion, yes.

Hey, who am I? :D
I am not sure you do actually, well we dont. You only have to look at what we have paid for defenders, with the exception of Henry and Pontus the rest of them have cost peanuts, Rasmussen and Sorensen nothing at all. Accept we may need to pay more now but 10M for a defender seems way off to me.

Yep we won’t pay 10m for an unproven full back ...Roerslev ahead of him in development at present ...he maybe worth it in a couple of years time but we won’t go there now

Like the look of Damsgaard, on his way to Premier League doubt if it is us but would be great if it was.

Dazsgaard sounds like an ultra-strong stain removing detergent
Or something for stopping people nicking your ice cream?
