This might be the most excruciatingly embarrassing thing to involve Brazil since, I dunno, the whole country sobbed like a lickle 4 year old girl after Neymar got injured in the 2014 World Cup; or when Germany rudely violated Brazil seven times at home live on global tv and made their entire team and the whole stadium packed with Brazilians look like lickle 4 year old girls; or when Neymar got a light touch on the ground from a Mexican at Russia 2018 and rolled around on the floor like a lickle 4 year old girl.

The shameful and politically-motivated farce in Brazil ain’t even today’s maddest football story. Guinea vs Morocco got postponed ‘cos of a full blown coup in the country.

So the Premier League bans players from travelling to red list countries, four of them go anyway, and it turns out the the UK is on their red list.

This brings up sooo many questions, like:
How could the Argentinian FA not have known the Brazilian travel rules?
Or the 4 players, or AVFC or THFC come to that.
Is the UK really a higher risk level than Spain, France etc? Or Argentina itself?
Would the same rules have applied to Brazilians arriving from the UK?
Did Brazil just invent this rule because they don't have any UK based players?
etc
etc

I'm sure they'll do a full contact trace for the 4 players, and quarantine any Brazilian players who came into close contact. Yes sir.

Nope. There are nine PL Brazilians who are regular national team players:

Alisson
Fabinho
Firmino
Gabriel Jesus
Ederson
Fred
Thiago Silva
Richarlison
Raphinha

Ah, I've just read that Brazil didn't call up their UK based players.

This makes the Brazilian FA look better, the Argentinian FA look worse, but the Brazilian health authorities still look like tits of the week.

It’s a mess, compounded by the deep hatred Brazil and Argentina have for each other anyway. It‘s claimed that the Argentinian FA reached an agreement with FIFA, CONMEBOL, and the Brazilian federal government that would allow the four players to play today, it the Brazilian health authority didn’t agree so decided to do its thing.

The truth will out, but Brazil - yet again - reveals itself as a joke country. The Argentinian team have been in São Paulo for 3 days now, after arriving from Venezuela.

The good news is that Villa’s Martinez and Buendia will probably now miss the Chelsea and Everton games :)

they knew the rules
they just avoided them

This is Willian, who arrived in Brazil on 30 August (Sao Paulo to be precise, Corinthians (where tonight’s Bra-Arg game was played), to be even more precise).

As you can see, having come from the UK he’s adhering closely to Brazil’s quarantine law. Or not.

Here he’s carefully following Brazilian law by adhering firmly to their quarantine regulations for those arriving from the UK. Photo taken in São Paulo on Thursday

And here he’s cooped up in the quarantine hotel yesterday afternoon, sticking closely to the COVID regulations. Looks tough. Thoughts and prayers etc.

Awkward.

It's going to take something extra, extra extraordinary to beat either of these.

(Note the comedy stylings of the fat goalkeeper - guaranteed to make the funniest video just that little bit funnier!)

Four fans run onto pitch during the Azerbaijan Portugal game and take a selfie with Bruno Fernandes whilst the game was still in progress. Crazy

Weird things that happened in football this/last week
Dan James joined Leeds
Now you may be thinking why this is weird?
This is the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure that United have made profit on a player
That's how not to run a football club

I think they’re doing ok. I’m sure they’d rather have kept CR7 forever rather than turning a profit on him. I doubt City will make a profit on Grealish but if he helps them to win the CL and PL they’ll consider it money well spent.

The fourth highest fee they've ever got for a player, they don't have a great record of it. 3 of the top 10 are 2003 or before.

At Bournemouth last night Zamoura was on a yellow card, ball went out for throw, he picked it up and threw it over a barrier to waste time,
why did Stroud not give him a second yellow? There is no chance of cutting out time wasting if these practices are allowed to continue:mad:

Unlike Mr Stroud to make a mistake or do anything controversial.

Keith Stroud in bizarre/controversial refereeing decision!! Hardly a weird thing to happen in football this week.

Not sure if this is weird, but a nice article on the NBC about Professor Van-Tam

FA Cup: Prof Jonathan Van-Tam on his 50-year love affair with Boston United

Weird in any other year:

Bees tipped in the Racing Post as an each way shout (I.e. to reach the final) for the League Cup. 66/1 at Bet365, value fans

This post could age badly very quickly...

Haven’t you heard? We’re doing the ‘Cup double’ this season, before the calendar gets clogged up with all those European games in future.

Actually, "Dog chases ball around on the grass" is not very "weird" at all, now I think about it.

But it's amusing nonetheless.
