There was an interesting article in The Athletic about Chris Hughton's demise. The stats were damning in the picture they painted of Forest under CH. One measure that was quantified was the number (few) of players who had improved and those (more) who had regressed.

I'm probably a bit naive, but I've never really thought about how 'we' have improved players that we have brought in.

I wonder if anyone has suggestions of any of our players who have been improved by our coaches.

Almost all of them?

Vitaly stands out as Phil and Rasmus said his last club was surprised how highly we rated him. Maybe Fosu too as Oxford fans were sceptical whether he was up to Championship standard. And Ajer, because apparently he wasn’t great, a bit of a liability and terrible in the air.

Agree we've improved the a majority but there are still a few we probably haven't. Of the ones that would've been expected to improve, Jeanvier and Valencia spring to mind.

Slightly harsh on Jeanvier who had the misfortune of losing his place after a red card, Pontus being back after the season restart and falling down the pecking order to go on loan and then get a serious injury. Meanwhile others came in and MBS improved a huge amount. Hard to improve when not playing.

Yes, I agree that there's a myriad or criteria and circumstances to be considered. In terms of a black and white question of "have we improved him?" however, I don't see any evidence that we have (despite the mitigating factors you've rightly pointed out).

Well he had half a season over which he looked a perfectly decent CB and was preferred to MBS when Pontus got injured so while he didn’t have time to develop far he did have time to develop as far as you’d want from a first season player. It’s not an exact science- you could argue Mbeumo hasn’t developed if you count his first season as showing the level he came to us at, but that would I think be rather unfair.

I think we need a few hundred posts on how ‘improvement’ should be measured before raking up some players from the past and a reference or two to encounters with opposition fans… only then can informed comment be made.

Came on here thinking it was an objective assessment on the performance so far this season of GPG posters. Gutted to see it’s about football players. Disappointing.
FJ’s reports have gone up several levels by including photos and probably being written after the hangovers have subsided. He’s handled the step up to PL admirably.

Not sure many have regressed....some haven't worked out (Valencia, Jeanvier) but I'm no sure I'd say either of those 'regressed'. We sign players with potential though, so for those to get worse you have to really screw up.

Good call. I was thinking more about the posters who don’t give a f*** about other people’s health, or think that singers of a crap song should be bracketed with rapists. There’s been a noticeable uptick in the cray-cray on the GPG in recent weeks 🤓

It’s what comes of not having had as many games to watch as last season.

Most of the regressions tend to take place down at B team level, but even then, that level is tantamount to youth football. Even the likes of Josh Clarke I don't feel regressed, they just fell out of favour. Chris Mepham, possibly maybe he was teetering on the brink of regressing at the time we sold him, being paired with Konsa.

We won the jackpot when Hoffman and McEachran left!
As we got no fee for Josh I believe, assume you are talking about getting shot of his wages, however the original question was which
players we improved (or not) both these were in the not category.

I'd throw Raya in the mix. Blackburn fans weren't exactly distraught to see him go, and a few here questioned whether he was an upgrade on Bentley. I'd say he's now one of the top 5 or 6 keepers in the EPL. Top, top keeper.

He has been brilliant this season. But you cant say hes one of the top 5 or 6 in the league after 4 games and the levels of some of the others in the league.

Most if not all of the playing squad have improved as we have moved on anyone who hasnt been up to the standard in the main.

Arsenal obviously think he is top 5 or 6. I get your point, but my view isn't based of 4 PL games. I know you can't really judge based on Championship attackers but my view is that aside of the top 4, he's pretty much on a par with the next level of keepers.

What? 😂

It‘s ‘ who’s ‘, as in ‘who has’ and ‘who is’.

Whose is the genitive case of who, and doesn’t apply in the title.

3/10, needs to pay more attention in English classes. 🤓
Congratulations, you've passed my little test make sure people are on their toes! ;)

I forgot my key for the Palace game. Didn’t realise until I left The Express (yes, I know it was an away game) about 10.30 ish. ‘er indoors wasn’t best pleased when I rang her to get out of bed to open up. Talk about the doghouse…

You could maybe make a case for saying we haven’t improved Pontus given the level he was already at when he joined us but then I probably didn’t pay close enough attention to make that judgement. And he was obviously a very different type of signing to most.

Did Kamo get noticeably better during his time with us? I’m not sure.

Struggling to think of many others.

I have been a bit more upbeat in the Premier league.
I think I have improved slightly as a fan in that I have in certain areas.
A bit more of a smile, a swagger, a thumb up here a thumb up there kind of thing.
I seem to be wearing a replica shirt/training shirt wherever I go.
Want to talk about football a lot more and trust me I did before, but with fellow Premier league fans.
Think about that bit.
Fellow Premier League fans.
Thomas Frank has done a good job here in Warnham.
