Good experienced player, and with currently only 2 out of 5 CBs availeble, we need a back up. Good with the ball, a long injuiry history, but as a loan, it will be great

I kn0w this is easy to say when its not my nmoney, but even if it is us, still a good deal. Say 22 weeks at £70k a week is £1.5m With the profit on recent sales this seems a reasonable gamble to go for the golden prize of prem money.

Having seen our defence in some of the last few games i do think it needs a refresh, even if only temporary
Very much doubt we’re paying all of it.

I actually think this signing indicates two things;
  1. Pontus could be out for the season (but we knew that anyway)
  2. We are damn serious about going up this season judging by amount this will cost us.
TBH - i called for this in the other thread, so im not sure why im complaining.

Welcome Winston :sorted:

Might be a short term permanent deal until end of season, with option to extend?

Having seen our defending of crosses in the first half on Saturday, even if it's a short term deal it makes perfect sense to me.

Think this is a decent short term signing for us - if true. Feels like a solid rumour, wouldn't have to move house, danish background, West Ham allowing it following the Said transfer dealings. Would be good for him and good for us.

winston still has 2 years left on his current 6 year deal. (Yes you read that right)

So unless WH release him in the summer and pay up the last 2 years (circa £7m) - then its unlikely.

West Ham mate saying he will rip up the championship and will be an amazing player to have behind the scenes. I imagine Sorenson will be able to learn a lot off him. 150+ games in the prem and promotion experience too. All for this.
That I presume is when he is fit, has an appalling injury history, according to data on tinternet? He last played in the PL for WH in 2017/18 (17 games), then Just 10 games in the MSL for Kansas on loan in 2020, now back at WH, please correct this if the data is wrong!!!

Makes sense. While he gets up to speed hope we don't suffer any injuries.

We have 21 games left of which Pinnock and MBS will be first choice and potentially Pontus back for the last few so as long as he can play the occasional game I really don't think his injury record matters?

He hasn’t played much football for the last few years and is 32. Will he be the same level physically as he was when we all remember him at WHU? Probably not. Little bit of a concern there.

But on the other hand, that is probably why he is suited to coming in. Experienced player, good player, but not one that will expect to start ahead Pinnock/MBS from the get-go. But hopefully fit enough to be rotated in when needed. Obviously has the FCM connection and speaks Danish which probably helps.

The other thing worth mentioning is that whilst Pontus is out, we currently need to have Henrik on the pitch as our talker/leader/captain. Once WR gets some minutes under his belt hopefully he can fill that leadership role and we can afford to rest Henrik a bit more and keep him fresh.

his injury record doesnt - but potential match sharpness might. Last played for West Ham first team in March 2018. Experience is massive here though, no doubting about that, and he is a great leader.

He has played more recently than that to be fair and played the other day for U23's - basically we are loaning him to cover so unless we are really unlucky he will have a bit of time to get match fit and may play B team games for us in the interim

According to wiki, since the end of the 2017/18 season, he has only played 12 games (last year) for Sporting Kansas City in the Major Soccer League, but if he's properly fit now and over his injuries, he seems like a decent punt.

Can i just say - it goes to show how well we do to keep all our transfer dealings under wraps.

No one upon no one (unless maybe ITK) - would of even thought about signing Winston Reid up until 9:30am this morning.

And now its 11am and hes a Bees player :D

I'd have thought it'll be good for West ham to pay all the wages as more chance of moving him on if he does well for us

Looks like he had a long term injury (cf Hogan, Judge) from which he has recovered. Question now whether he’s fit enough to play regularly in rotation to the end of the season. I wonder whether having a couple of years out but keeping fit might mean his body generally is free of the wear and tear of those years. As long as he can play he sounds a decent loan option for his experience in the squad even if not one for the future for us.
