What's the difference between

Terry Butchers team and Andy Scott's team.

For me a few things.

1. He is playing a settled side 442.

2. Has Connell playing as a striker.

3. Has a good pairing of Kev O C and Smith in midfield.

4. Andy knows Gary Smith is a good player .

5. Has the team working for him.

6. Allowing them to express themselves.

Same players, amazing isn't it. :sorted:

7. AS installs self belief

What's the difference between

AS plays players in their correct positition.

i think butcher shot himself when he said he can not motivate players.....and playing 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.....and not playing gary smith, and playing kev o,connor in diffrent positions....and f**king up charlie ides confidence.........

They definitely appear to be playing for Andy Scott, for example Poole's celebration against Wycombe. This did not appear to be the case with with Terry Butcher. However, the various rumours we hear on here suggest the team was always Andy's team and some of the players previous clubs also suggest they were Andy Scott signings.

Terry was always out of his depth, he has failed at every manager's job he has held and it is likely he will not get another shot at it. His formations and tactics appeared clueless and suggested if he had complete control over the full 1m player budget we would not have been a lot better off points wise.

Andy is getting results so far but he has shown tactical naiveness. Smith has been a huge plus and one decission that appears to have come back to haunt Terry. It seems ironic that the best performance of the season was a team managed by Andy Scott that excluded Thorpe and Mackie, argueably the two signings (AS's ?) that caused TB the most flak. That substitution !

I have always been anti Scott, but after watching the interveiw on the O/S, he was clearly saying how much him and the team were looking forward to the next game against D & R on Tuesday.

This makes such a change from TB's after match comments. I'd like to see someone like Adrian Whitbread bought in now to work with Andy.

What's the difference between

Smith, Connell and Heywood are all playing, all the time :sorted:

I think the key is the confidence that's come from players being comfortable in their positions and the formation they're playing. However, confidence is a fragile thing as we saw in the second half against Wycombe and it'll be interesting to see how Scott copes again when things don't go to plan..

think smith's made a massive difference,,,,we've needed a player like him for the last two seasons....excellent battler, comfortable on the ball and can pass a bit too...a class act!

Yes he appeared to be out of his depth but his time at Motherwell wasn't a complete flop and I think he did OK at Sydney. He got the team into the play-offs with a points deduction and a heavy injury list. If they had hadn't lost 3 points the team would have got a home game for the play-offs.

There are 8 teams in the aussie league and the top 6 make the play offs.

He lost more than he won at motherwell as well.

What's the difference between

we have scored 8 goals in four games, since scott's been in charge

Not sure he will...

Also, No three hour training sessions before getting on a coach to away trips..

AND,

The players are staring to enjoy their football..

Can we file this with the outrage at Greg Dyke having the audacity to charge a fee for speaking at a public engagement.

It's a book, that sells for money, presumably if it's sold via the club shop then the club earn money for it.

Fair enough, but its 4 into the play-offs not 6

.. and the club shop presumably paid to get it into stock, so should they just dump it and write off the cash? However, I don't see many copies being sold now.

Back to topic, Scott did well to keep his preferred midfield together and bring Pead in at RB; when I heard the team, I assumed Kev at RB, Pead in MF, but it worked much better this way: a balanced midfield, and Pead's best game for us

I'll stand corrected but I'll be amazed if it wasn't sale or return. Should the club shop not have been stocking an autobiography of the clubs manager? Damned if the do and damned if they don't.

But how many Bees fans will buy it now?

seems like the fans are enjoying watching the bees again which can only be a good thing. Keep it going please.

My answer to the question is I haven't got a clue as I don't know either of them but I would guess that Terry Butcher's man management skills could be written on the back of a stamp still leaving room for War & Peace.

What's the difference between

Butcher did not have a clue where the players in his squad should be playing and their best positions.
Pead, right back. Smith in the midfield as examples.

Butcher did not have a clue how to motivate his players.
Coming out in the press, whilst our Manager and publicly slating them, is not how you get the best out of them
He lost their respect.

You can see the players are willing to give their all for Scott

What's the difference between

Terry Butcher is a plonker!
What were they thinking of giving him the job when he even admitted himself he had no knowledge of the players in the lower leagues of English football
He was given the job off the back of what he has done as a player.
Fancy saying i cant motivate the players errr??
Do i not miss his repetetive post match comments.
Glad to see the back of TB.
In Andy Scott we trust!

I hope Alan Shearer doesn't fall into the same trap even though he'll probably only be assistant so won't take as much of the flak and can learn along the way.

i sort of do. give them what they want, let them go down. it's the only way they'll learn.

How about we bundle a Butcher autobiography together with a 2008 calendar - you know, the one with Noades and Butcher on the front cover - and sell the lot for a fiver?

What's the difference between

Andy Scott and Terry Butcher were a partnership, A lot of people blamed Scott more than Butcher for our plight due to Andys Lower League expertise which resulted in the likes of Thorpe and Mackie signing for the club. Andy has to take some of the blame for the time with Butcher but has now come out of it with the players producing excellent confident football which has got the crowd back behind the club for the first time since Martin Allen. Gary Smith is making a hell of a difference in Mid Field but I think the biggest difference is making Matt Haywood captain. We actually have a leader out on the field which we have not had in the past.

What's the difference between

I admit it didn't see much of the Butcher reign but having watched them under Scott the thing that stands out a mile is the committment to the passing game - load of neat, short, one-touch stuff which looks like they must be deliberately working on that in training and are (thankfully) delivering it in the games.

Even when under pressure, they stick to it and against Chesterfield i was thinking maybe a bit too much - too many touches on the edge of our own box is a bit nerve-wracking but that's just a minor quibble.

According to the Harrow Times Watford have three strikers, Will Hoskins, Moses Ahikodi and Steve Kabba who are down their pecking list and are willing for one of them to go to Swindon to get first team games, just wondering.

if i recall there were a good few pboro away programmes knocking about in there too... or have they sold out?

Ashikodi broke his leg last year and hasnt really featured since...

Kabba and Hoskins could do a decent job, but I think wages may be a problem, unless Watford are very generous...
