Team for Rotherham

I think there will be a few changes due to the amount of minutes put in by all the players and lack of changes last night.

Bentley

Elder
Egan
Dean
Colin

Woods
Niko

Saunders
Sawyers
Vibe

Hogan

I would love the same side to be out there but think LM will be given a break and depends on the knock.

Team for Rotherham

Can't see LM being fit and why risk him anyway? I suspect that will be the only change. Personally I'd go radical and bring in Bjelland at defensive mid and push Woods central mid and Sawyers wide.
Bentley
Colin Dean Egan Elder
Yennaris Bjelland
Clarke Woods Sawyers
Hogan
We should remember that Bjelland is an accomplished defensive mid and has played a lot of games for Denmark in that position. He's a quality asset and we need to get him playing. He would also bring height and physical presence.

Team for Rotherham

Same team, if all fit.

Only changes I can see is; Macleod, due to the knock, and Nico, if still troubled by injury.

Bentley

Colin Dean Egan Elder

Woods Bjelland (Nico)

Clarke Sawyers Saunders (Macleod)

Hogan.

Can see the sense in this and for me a preferable option to starting Sam - no disrespect to the latter. I can't see LM being fit either, he did well to last as long as he did on Tuesday evening.

However if I were a betting man I would see Smithy going for a straight swap of Sam for LM.

Whatever the team, the priority is not to concede!
At last (well, for two games anyway) we have the makings of being a difficult side to beat.
History suggests that this is the first consideration of every successful side (and any with ambitions of promotion)......so let's see if we can continue in that vein?
COYB's ....no goals against please!!!

For me in the last twenty vs Forest we did a bit of a headless chicken job as we lost a bit of shape, couldn't get the ball and when we did we gave it away and invited more pressure. We needed a bit of class to offset that.
I'm a bit old school and have always believed that you accommodate your best players on the pitch subject to fitness. For me Bjelland has to play and defensive mid would add to both our quality and defensive strength.
Of course, Bjelland might turn out to be a dud but the record speaks for itself and we need to find out as soon as poss.

I agree and assuming fit Bjelland might bring some needed height/physicality against the northern brutes.
Not sure about Saunders but I'm struggling to think of a better option other than perhaps shifting Nico there.

KK?

Interesting that everyone so far thinks that Hogan will be fit to start again, I hope so but think we might see Vibe start.

Team for Rotherham

Thought about it but think Nico would do better.
Nico has established himself as a good holding midfielder who really puts in a tackle, why would you move him? Kerschbaumer has a good work-rate and can spot a pass, which suits our lone forward well.

I wouldn't, as we have no one else who plays that role, at present. I hope he's fit and ready for Rotherham.

Eh? You put Bjelland in for him which I was agreeing with.....
I was suggesting Nico might be a better option than Saunders for the left.

Some big decisions for Deano this Saturday...

For me you don't change a winning team (especially one that's kept 2 clean sheets and scored 3 goals) however knocks/niggles may force his hand....

We have plenty of options from the bench so I think i'd bring Vibe in for The Hoff there and unless injury/illness means changes

I know. I wouldn't change it if Nico is fit. I wouldn't put Nico left either. Prefer Saunders, as that's the only real option we have.

Personally think Nico would be just as good as Saunders there. Will let you decide if that's because I rate Nico or don't particularly rate Sam ;)

Team for Rotherham

No injury issues, it seems, so the same XI. :)

He's back in training, there's no suggestion he's not fit enough to play. Barbet and McCormack are both still out.

I'd play the same side.

Team for Rotherham

Think DS will play same side unless there are injuries, he will be reluctant to change a winning team.

Team for Rotherham

Whatever the team is......suggest they play it on the floor.....it's going to be wet and windy apparently!

Team for Rotherham

Bentley
Colin Dean Egan Elder
Woods Nico
Saunders Vibe McCleod
Hogan

I would like to see Bjelland given a chance but who do you drop?? Vibe played well the end of last season so think he deserves to be back in the team and given a go in the central role behind Hogan. Saunders I would put in for Clarke as think away from home you need more experience and stability in the midfield.

You'd drop Sawyers? Madness!

Team for Rotherham

I think it will depend on Rovrum's playing style under Stubbs. If they play a high line, Hogan and Clarke, being the only players with pace, may work, while, if they play deeper, then we'll need ball-players to play through them, which will mean Clarke can be replaced by Saunders/Kerschbaumer, otherwise there's little reason to change apart from fitness on the day.

Team for Rotherham

Based on Smith's injury news (ie there isn't any) - same starting XI for me.

Team for Rotherham

I thought Sawyers was pretty awful on Tuesday with his carelessness in the last 20 minutes almost costing us a point. I would replace him with either Saunders of KK as my only change.

Was it carelessness or was it fatigue? He seemed to slow down for a while and then gave it one last effort at the end. Personally, I'd have hooked him for Kerschbaumer's energy but it worked out just fine.

Team for Rotherham

I would rest Clarke, he was knackered for the last 20 mins on Tuesday. Give Saunders/Vibe a go. Otherwise the same team for me.

If he's fit to play after travelling back from Brazil I'd agree with starting Vibe instead of Clarke (assuming Colin fit to play RB) and then to have the option of Clarke running at a tiring Rotherham defence later on. Smith clearly rates Saunders but I think more as a way of injecting energy, enthusiasm, control and directness later in games and he's been good at that (in fact I think he's always impressed most coming on as a sub rather than a starter even in L1) so shouldn't start unless McLeod is unavailable, and even then, I'd prefer KK to start. It sounds like Rotherham are adjusting to a different style of play and converting from Warnock's direct, physical pressing approach to a more passing game. That would suit us I think.

Experience. We have a very young squad. A wise old man like Saunders will be needed at times.

That's true but his experience is principally useful in closing out a game or to make a game of one where we have fallen behind (eg away at Huddersfield). I'm not sure he is or ever was, a good enough player to be the most positive choice as a starter and so his experience isn't focused on that role. Like most Bees fans I really like Saunders but that doesn't stop me being pessimistic about our approach to an impending game if he's named as a starter or the likelihood that we are switching to plan B because our more intricate and skillful approach isn't working if he comes on as a sub.

Agreed.

I don't think Sam will start many games, this season, but his elderly status will see him used quite often from the bench.

Started against Fulham and scored an absolute cracker! Only 3 months ago.

I'm sure Sam won't let us down if he's named in the starting eleven. Just don't see it happening too often, this season. :hat:

Actually I agree - just thought I'd bring that Fulham goal up.

The only change for me is Sam playing instead of Josh.
