Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes walk around the pitch like that and get away with it because they’re quality but he ain’t Ronaldo or Fernandes. Not buying this whole thing about him helping him out defensively KLP is much better defensively when on the wing still don’t mean I want him there cos he can defend .. lucky to get a penalty he just fluffed his chance cos he bottled it like he does 90% of the time he’s in that position but people say he should play because he has the ability to get there …

Kevin Schade

Body language debates aside. His lack of running back or providing an option at times today was totally inexcusable, I think we can all agree on that surely

Optimistic that Keith & staff can help him get out of this rough patch though as we all know what a player he could be and has been in periods

To be fair, we’re were only playing with 10 players in the first half so I think he was doing a lot of extra covering. Played more on the front foot second half.

Kevin Schade

Another observation. The lad is capable in games of making moments happen there’s no doubt of that . But the PL template for forwards seems to be that you must be quick , alert and like a cat on a hot tin roof when an opportunity presents itself. And you have to be part of the 100% team effort in all areas. VEry few players can stroll about or not be on their toes. This may be why he attracts critique. Because he doesn’t tick a lot of those boxes all the time.

Kevin Schade

Don't think he's had a great season really, it's far from the first disappointing game... wonder if he'll kick on next year or if we all might mutually decide to move on. He's a tantalising prospect, but I'm not sure we're ever gonna see it come to fruition.

Lack of running back??????

Kevin Schade

Brentford fans love a scapegoat.

Sawyers, Vibe, Jensen until recently, Damsgaard in his first two seasons….

Schade is now that man. Kev didn’t have a great game, but Dango’s contribution has been equally unremarkable in recent months and he seems to be free of criticism.

Lack of running back??????
Maybe it was just in my section of the West Stand but there were audible groans with some of his walking back at times or failure to provide an option. I'm not criticising some of his defensive work, especially around the box

Kevin Schade

My take on Kev:

Is he a talented player? 100%
Has he ‘won’ us games? Yes
Does he have great potential? Yes
Is his attitude a worry? Right now, yes
Has he kicked on since last season? Honestly, no

No way would I get rid. Are those saying he’s crap wrong, yes. Are those saying he’s all that wrong, yes.

Because if you believe he’s top draw, can you genuinely say he’s having a great season

Kevin Schade

A lot of overreactions on here tonight but Kev was very, very poor today. A lot of our moves in the first half broke down as soon as he became involved and that header to prevent Igor scoring at the death was one of the best defensive headers I've ever seen.

Still hope we keep him and he can begin to reach his ceiling with us though.

Kevin Schade

I like Kev but he is an experienced player now and needs to step up. Next week is the perfect platform for him to get back on track

Kevin Schade

Prone to bad games and polarises opinion but you can't argue that with him as a mainstay of the side in the last two seasons, we finished 10th and currently lie in 7th, with him scoring around 1 in 4.

If we lost his height and pace without a similar replacement I think we'd value him a lot more, rather than highlighting his flaws.

Kevin Schade

Surely his salary was agreed before he put in all these mythical uninspired performances. And whatever people think of his ability, you can count on one finger the amount of times KS has given less than 100% effort.

Kevin Schade

He got everyone riled in the second half when he played a ball back to Kayode and stopped when the ball didnt get there. I agree with him though - Michael needed to be running into space for the ball but didn't anticipate so made Kev look a bit foolish.

Kevin Schade

I'm not going to lie, I am starting to lose patience with him....

Kevin Schade

Personally I think mentally he out of the building.

Shame as can be and will be a fantastic player in the coming months and years

Kevin Schade

I'm not so bothered either. I'm pointing out that it's difficult to warm to him. However, for that reason I'm a little Meh about him.

Superb player on his day.
Unfortunately these are few and far between.
So frustrating to watch as there is a great player in there, but we don't get to see it that much.

Kevin Schade

You can see Schade is popular with his teammates so I don’t buy the idea that he sulks, doesn’t care etc ….. I don’t think said team mates would put up with it.

That said after 3 years I would move him on if the rumoured £40m interest is real. I just don’t think he’s hit the levels and feels like he’s gone backwards this season.

I do t think he’s lazy or with a poor attitude but it might be best for both parties to move on.

Kevin Schade

I'd love to see his 90+3 header again as I couldn't really work out what my eyes were seeing. It was recorded as 0.53 xG. Didn't make the cut on MOTD.

It was in the Thiago highlights analysis (I think it's the one you mean).

Kevin Schade

Has a lot of the physical tools - doesn’t know how to apply them though. Gets way too discouraged way too easily. I’m frustrated for him.

Surely you mean recent weeks? He scored 2 game winning goals and had 2 assists in the month of February, for which he was nominated for PL player of the month. He also had a decent first half against Wolves. He's definitely not free of criticism... Remember the fallout after his panenka at West Ham? I definitely heard grumblings about him and calls to take him off today and away at Bournemouth.

Agree about Schade being the new scapegoat and think he had a better game than Dango. They both played a part in getting that early pen but Schade got into better positions to be involved in some good chances, the header off the bar, the shot which unfortunately he placed to close to Pickford...

Kevin Schade

Weird pile on, thought he contributed.

I think we’re still waiting for it to click, he’s probably our 2nd most valuable player on paper but I do have this feeling we’ll lose him to a decent team in the summer and he’ll be prolific next season.

There’s a proper player in there, but he’s probably not as good as he thinks he is (yet).

I saw him "run back" plenty of times yesterday but i suppose its easier to remember the one time he didnt and say thats all he did.

Yep I can't dispute his defensive contribution to be fair. I suspect a lot of the fans (including myself) annoyance with him is his attitude - you can tell from a mile away when he in headless chicken mode.

Yesterday particularly pissed me off in the 2nd half when he was just walking around after the argument with Kayode - you could see the team were gassing but there was effort from everyone except him at times.

Fair, but i think it's another example of Schade not really having great playing relationships with that many on the pitch. There was a couple of games this season where the link-up with Thiago and Dango was really good, this was when Thiago started to really come good. But i've never seen a link with the midfield or a full back personally.

Kevin Schade

I have no idea if he is carrying a knock, if he is doing what he is told (and that's wrong), of he can't be arsed because he wants out in the summer, his contract situation, whatever else could be.
But definitely whatever is, is not working very well. Yes, he won a penalty, thankfully! But that's a poor consolation, as think he could have buried it first time, it was a clear chance, and the follow up.
And the rest of the game, he really looked out of place. KLP was playing both left back and wing today, and the only other time we created something from that side was when Dango switched to that side.
He is a confidence player, and for sure that is at rock bottom levels now

Maybe he has been below his best because he has to pace himself to last 90 minutes, because we havent got anybody to bring on.

Kevin Schade

He was away with the German national side, not on holiday. We’re not replacing him for under £40m, so that is not happening. He wasn’t great today, I don’t need to be told that, but there seems to be people itching to slag him off at home games. It’s becoming very tiresome to witness the scapegoating.
100% this.
I will never understand why people are so eager to spend their Saturday afternoons moaning when there's other things they could be talking about. Listening to some of the people sat around me it often feels like we're still in league one.

Kevin Schade

When the criticism is basically entirely subjective and unsubstantiated, like ‘body language’ and ‘attitude’, you know the barrel is being well and truly scraped.

Like every player, he’ll have better and worse days but trotting out meaningless tropes says more about the poster than the player.

Sure, he’s not given the ‘star player’ award every match but look at some of the independent (and dispassionate) rating and he’s nearly always in the mix. (WhoScored ranked him 4th yesterday.)

Still, whatever you want to get off on, it’s a personal preference.

Totally agree. He was very unlucky with his header off the bar yesterday by the way.

Kevin Schade

No doubt about it that if he was 5ft 9 he wouldn’t be playing as much. Keith had to keep him on today for his defensive duties as much as anything.
I am not sure if he is actually enjoying football at the moment, you feel a move back to Germany is on the cards this summer
If the rumours are true that Bayern Munich are looking at him and table a bid of €50m in the summer then that's a possability.

(y)
He's had a few of those too this season. Taking over Bryan's "woodwork king" mantle.......??
Arsenal, West Ham away and Newcastle at home (I think) immediately spring to mind.

Could easily have had another 5 or 6 goals this season on top of what's already another decent return.

Was well up for it in the celebrations after Igor's 2nd goal too.........

Kevin Schade

I'm not going to slag Kevin off but there were a few instances yesterday (which have been mentioned on here) that really frustrated me, we all know he has pace and can beat the best in the air but at present we are not seeing that very often. No one can fault his contributions defensively but we need to see more of his better side going forward

He set one goal up and hit the bar with a header. A pretty good attacking performance IMO

Sadly with only two years left on his deal we'd probably take that . We usually seem to have an option on players contracts but doesn't seem like we do for kevin

It must have been 0.53 xG for Igor - Schade was never going to score but if he hadn't got in the way IT buries it.

I think there was a fair chance of the defender clearing that had Schade left it
