The only reason I can think of is that a trialist or trialists are being given a run out and they are known to be on the radar of other clubs and we don't want them to know we are interested. That seems a bit far fetched really as these days of agents even at U21 level would seem to disprove the 'let's keep it a secret' scenario.
These BCD or 'unannounced games' are more of a contested training match I think, where pre-planned tactics are worked on rather than a match scenario where players have to be ready for anything. (Some rugby league friendlies are listed as contested training sessions).
When you get details, they turn out to be ‘contested training sessions’, for example 3 x 30 minute ‘halves’.
