Pretty much confirmation that Eyestone and Rose are the third and fourth choice keepers at the club. It probably marks Rose as one for a new contract and Marley Tav to be released. That said, while he is standing next to Eyestone, Rose doesn't look nearly tall enough to be a modern keeper.

Had a nice little chat with a young man from the academy, with an amazing name, Nevded Owusu, he has his head screwed on the right way... only 16 but extremely talented, also shares a passion about us as a club which is a huge plus (16 year old constantly talking about how brilliant we are- signs we are a big club), Hope hes a star one day

Sammy Saunders is promoted to B team head coach following MacFarlane joining the first team squad as an assistant head coach

Probably looking at a big turnover of players this summer, what with the move "up" the reserve leagues. The club have begun to cease disclosing certain B team contract lengths, so this is who looks to be expiring:

GK - Rose, Tavaziva, Wolfheimer
DF - Adedokun (+1), Asemokhai, Avenell, Klimas, McKnight (+1), McManus, Picotto (+1), Shield, Wheeler-Henry
MF - Brierley (+1), Grey, Owen
FW/W - Holland, Laidlaw, McSorley

Many of these are overage. Can see Picotto and Shield getting extended in the defensive ranks and likely Wheeler-Henry signed permanently. Hard to say about Grey and Owen in midfield, who will both turn 21 during next season - another year of B team football might stunt their development. As for the frontline, Holland and McSorley might be extended due to their long-term injury problems, but it's time for Laidlaw to start his senior career somewhere, unless TPTB have plans for him to become an "ageing" B teamer who plies his trade on loan from here on in (ala Brierley, Krauhaus, Olakigbe, Crama in the past).

...if that ⬆️ literally means a player no longer eligible to play once they turn 22 (even if he turns 22 mid-season), that would affect Tavaziva, Avenell, McKnight and Laidlaw, all of whom are out of contract. McManus is out of contract and 22 next month. No concern for Brierley, Krauhaus or Olakigbe, as during any remaining time with Bees, they'll play away on loan. Adedokun is 23, out of contract, frozen out and quite obviously a goner.

Presume 21 at the start of the season (1 August?) is the qualifying criterion otherwise someone could play 1 game and then be over age... but it does mean we can't use these games as part of the process to bring injured players back to fitness.

I think ‘age’ is calculated from 1 Jan, as seasons have variable start dates.

Not arguing, but why would that apply to a non-international age group league? Although they have introduced an international cup thing this year... which 1 Jan would it be?

It must be the one before the start of the current season, ie, 1.1.26. Anything else doesn’t make sense, but then it is football….

I’m not sure what international had got to do with it but I’m sure it’s a specific date in the year. I think it’s either 1 Jan or its 1 Sept… but it may be it’s both depending on the rules under which a specific competition is played.

Thanks for your insights on this. Always find your posts in this sub forum very informative

How comes Laidlaw hasn’t been considered being promoted, or even for a move away for first team football? He’s always brilliant

Because he’s only just got himself fit. Next season is key for him either here or at his first loan.

He’s a real prospect.

I hope so 👍

I've never really seen what you see.
His end of season form appears impressive though.

Let's hope he is a real prospect 🤞

Olakigbe, Cox, Brierley, Yogane, Trevitt, Morgan, Krauhaus. All out on loan but feel a very long way off first team involvement here right now.

Wonder how many will get permanent moves away.

Bold are first teamers, but I get your point. Time to plough a new furrow for Briers and Trev. The rest are in contract, 1 or 2 years to run.

The B team project was a very Brentford left field move when it was introduced and was an excellent way of signing and blooding players for our Championship squad and indeed team.

Much harder now that we are an established PL club. We seem to now be (mostly) bringing -on players to sell for very modest fees or give-away with a BFC sticker on them.

But I guess one PL breakthrough every couple of seasons is money well spent.

Lots of comings and goings today in the academy update on the website. Very little info on the players and what positions they play in among those promoted to the B-team for next season.

B-Team Production

The recruitment challenge now is made more complex by the large and fast investment to get Category One status for the Academy. This means we have a commitment to field teams in PL2, U-21s, and the U-18s PL, as well as other commitments. The B Team concept still has a place to play in that, too, as it delivers experience outside the cosy PL Academy ecosystem which I’m sure the Club still considers important.

I’m not sure there’s a strategy to be bringing-on players to sell for very modest fees or give-away with a BFC sticker on them! We’re known for developing players with all-round positive human attributes. With the reducing pond we’re fishing in, showing that very few of our young recruits are left without a career in profession football at some level is going to be an important consideration for ambitious parents and agents.

As you say, it doesn’t take very many at all to make it to PL level to give significant returns on the massive investment.

I make that 10 midfielders the B team has now, with a further two out on loan. 9 defenders across the back as well. I can imagine TBPB want the numbers up, as they need to see how the personnel holds up to the higher level of reserve football and more cup football, before allowing the squad to thin out next summer. The U18s fielded alot of U16s last season, particularly in the second half, given the number of U18s that were plugging gaps in the B team, because of injuries and the number of B teamers plugging gaps in the first team.

Caelan Avenell has been included in the Bees 25 player PL squad:

As a "well he's got to go somewhere" B team overage. Val Adedokun missing, presumably because no space left in the 25.

B-Team Production

I know. Others listed are shown as being out on loan though.
He's over 21, though, so won't be consuming a squad place, especially when out on loan. I assume the 'loan' players in the U-21 list are there in case they're recalled in the January window and there's really no overhead to listing them, so they get the kudos of appearing in a PL squad list.

I think most if not all are on season-long loans and I don't believe they can be recalled in January?

It would depend on the loan/temporary transfer terms in the contract, I guess.
