1864 Members?

Banana,

the front page gives the membership as 1864 - yet when you look at the various member page lists lots of members only have 0 or 1 posts.

Can't you do a cull and get rid of any old accounts that are not used so we get a more realistic idea of how many members we really have?

I'm more than happy to do it manually - deleting unused accounts over 18 months old say - if you want a hand doing it let me know

Banana

Maybe so - can't you tweak it to show you people that have not logged on for 18 months?

Do inflated member figures help anything?

1864 Members?

512 members hit the site for the news of the season

get real banana - GPG has 1000 real member that visit once a week mate if that

1860? not inflated - yeah right

Inflated in terms of people who currently post but not in terms of people who support BFC (many may not be able to get online anymore) or people who have been interested in the GPG but don't post anymore. It's cliquey enough without deleting accounts of people who may want to come back.

Very good point - but if you have the tools to cull accounts that obvisously are void - one vist since jan 2002 why not use it to get rid of the dead wood

Banana could tell exactly when sweepy last visited the site but not someone like errr hang on........

https://griffinpark.org/forums/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=1318

5ft 8bee - one post in 12 months - when did he last visit? bet he remembers his password

banana - get real

What if that person last visited today Aussie? What if they read The Big Match forum? Should we delete their account?

Surely ANY Brentford fan should be able to read the GPG without the threat of their account being deleted (unless of course their email address isn't working ;) )

Anyway, the only cull that will happen will be those with dead email addresses.

Nana

I really don't see where your opposition from me tidying up the membership database is coming from.

For a start I would send a warning of the account fallihg into "lapse" two weeks before deleting them for the database - if they don't reply to that stiff sh*t - your email accoujnt is as good as dead if you don't check it

The idea to get visitors to the site to sign up to the big match forum was yours - it was stupid then and stupid now! Wear it

Dead email addresses? Well check them then - or let me - I have never had an email from gpg checking details

1) i just checked my emails for the first time in a couple of weeks, and i'm a "regular" internet user! What about if the person you were trying to cull was on holiday for a couple of weeks or something?

2) i think registering for the big match forum has proved fairly useful. not that i was ever opposed to it - there were certain other forums i was opposed to having to register for :)

3) does this all really matter??

I know several people who browse this site but never post Aussie. Plus there are opposition fans who generally only visit a couple of times a season (when we play them). As much as I hate to say it (again) I think culling inactive members may do more harm than leaving them on here. What harm do they do anyway?

Nana can we also have a total of people who have visited/posted in, say the last month, so that we have a better idea of how many active members we have? Would that keep you happy Steve? :)

To be honest Aussie, like Beezy I too know a lot of people who just browse this site. There is so much info on it too digest they probably dont have time to post.

I have also found that quite a few people make there first post quite some time after registering (maybe because were all so friendly we come across as cliquey).

If you look at the members browsing, paricually at lunch times in the UK, your'll probably find loads of members who have never or who are infrequent posters.

Exactly, I read the GPG loads, but simply never get a chance to post  But I would feel like I had lost one of my mums if I couldn't get on here anymore :(

Hello from Swinedon Bee!

I've just managed to register with GPG this evening - it's taken me ages to access the website and my IT skills are rubbish. I've enjoyed having a good browse and catching up with news and views. Long may this last - we are flying the flag for the Bees in planet Swindon!

Banana has already done one prune of the database since he took charge, so everyone at that point (a year or so ago) who was still there afterwards was either a regular poster, a regular viewer, or had responded saying "yes" to an e-mail asking if they still wanted to keep their account or not. So the database is already a lot cleaner than the member list of other bulletin boards' of a similar age would be.

You can't force people to register to read The Big Match and then threaten to delete them unless they post: people are allowed to not post.

And at the end of the day, what does it matter? Yes we don't have 1800 daily visitors, but the point of those figures at the bottom is to help give an accurate reflection of how many regular visitors we have. Maybe we should get visitors in a week added as well as per day? Most active members probably visit that often.

Quite a few messageboards have a 'new signings' forum for people who have just registered (to say hello). I don't think it's a bad idea.

Regular posters could then put them off for life

That's strange, I though QPR fans didn't care about us and all hated Chelsea?

i think its more strange that 5 out of 6 GPG'ers don't admit to supporting the bees!! :D
