2006-07 matchday programme
What about a What Do They Do?
In-depth articles on the groundsman and what he does and why. What happening/ed with the Griffin Park turf over the close season etc.
What training routines do the team use and why?
What's involved in being a Club Secretary etc. what has to be done.
Behind the scenes of match arrangements.
I guess we could have had Martin telling us what Newman's supposed to be have been doing too.

I stopped buying the home programme this year. It just got so dull. I found one at the Doncaster game and read it....and immediately realised why I'd stopped buying it.
The Southend away prog was excellent although costly at £3.00. I think I liked it 'cos they kept coming back to Brentford links and connections. I thought the old 'Where are they now?' was a good idea and quite interesting in an anorakky sort of way.....'Mmmmm Alan Nelmes is now a security guard in Brighton, that might come in handy for a lull in the conversation sometime.' I like the away crowd info too that we seem to have dropped but others include. Updates from the fanzines are good.
Has anyone ever thought of doing a 100 years of Brentford and serialising it for the next 25 years in the match day mag????????????

Agreed. Compared to other clubs, our reserve & youth reports seem disjointed and uninformative. Focus on clear match reports and add any more general stuff separately. Maybe even pen pictures?
If we had a captain that was worth reading (which we should have next season), a captain's page would make a change.
If not a "fan profile" then a "fans-eye perspective" - that would have PG worried in case anything libellous crept in!

Away supporters attendance figures
Career goals and appearances stats alongside the seasonal records
Much briefer match reports (but retain the photos)
More (many more) 'newsy' feature articles/interviews - eg interviews with players on winning goal/game against former club/return from injury etc
Proper pen pictures of the away side (the current feature tells us virtually nothing about their players)
No more programme collectors club (pleeeease)
No reliance on deadly dull syndicated items like the ones we see on our travels (if I come across Edward Leigh selecting a post war Brentford dream team or 10 classic Bees seasons one more time, I'll scream)
Better quality paper (even if it does mean a price rise to £3)
A Q&A interview with an opposing fan about their club, its season and the match, much like Southend and Rochdale did with us - it helps to put the game into context and could easily be done through the Rivals site.
No more Learning Zone guff - I'm sure its all very worthy, but I don't want to pay good money to read about it
Most of us don't have the time and energy to commit to writing regular articles, but we'd be happy to email in brief comments, views and memories, much as we contribute to the memory lane forum here - so how about giving Graham Haynes a rest for a season or two and do some oral history type stuff? Ask for contributions on say, a specific game (Peterborough/Blackburn... or even Bristol City in '92/3) or player and just edit the best responses into a feature each week (much like Swansea did in their Play Off programme, referring back to their promotion to the 1st Division) Each topic could be chosen to tie in with a particular opponent or date.

i LOVE meet a player. my OH has guessed te last 4 sandwich fillings first go. it's cracking for half time entertainment (i mean really, what else are you going to do? get a pie? ).
my favourite of the season so far was one of them's favourite cheese being "medium cheese". fabulous.
meet a fan would be great. better still one of those weekly columns they do in one of the free london newspapers where you get to text in whether they should be allowed to write again...

I'm afraid that I have to buy a programme each home game as it takes me at least half a season to recognize our players,all those short white players look alike.Seriously thought it is generally quite informative and it is interesting to know that our present goalkeeper prefers Cathedral City cheese which Dairy Crest states is 35% less fat than normal cheddar.Just imagine what he would look like if he consumed normal cheddar.Also it is good to know that our goalkeeping coach also doubles up as the groundsman according to the programme,so it's not only David Heath who is attempting two jobs.Incidently it also appears that the pecking order of our present board should be in alphabetical order,after the chairman,with Alan Bird naturally leading the pack and ,again naturally Eddie Rogers bringing up the rear,however why does John Herting warrent a higher place than David Heath? Is this a case of dyslexia in the higher echelon.I do remember when I tempted Alan Bird with a Balti Pie he declined by saying "Get behind me Santa".

In itself, I think the programme is pretty decent - I can remember how poor they were over 20 years ago. However, its problem is that most people now have internet access and can get most of the info there - reports on past matches, stats, profile of opponents etc - so £2.50 for the little that is new can seem a lot. I normally buy one anyway, but have failed to do so in about a third of the matches I've seen this season, whereas I would have done so almost every match in previous years.
Has the club ever published stats on the proportion of fans buying a programme? If it's going down, they might want to consider a more basic version

General view of programme is good. looking back through Chester Prog, there was no advice on how to get to Dagenham or Chesterfield. Rather than have a write up on the top ten games, how about a more general write up on Div.2? A where are they now feature on players and managers might warm some hearts. Could we seek the odd input from people like Tom Watt, Alan Green Etc. which may also help to raise the profile of the club.
If its revenue one is after, what about some small adds, especially those that offer "therapy" which are in plentiful supply in the back of most local papers (though Mrs Rosie might not agree on this one).
