2034 World Cup

2034 World Cup

Not really followed this, presumably another winter World Cup then? After the great success of the last one.....

2034 World Cup

Australia have opted against bidding for the 2034 World Cup leaving Saudi Arabia as the only confirmed bidder.

Today is the deadline for submitting bids.

blimey , what a shock !

2034 World Cup

A shorter flight, anyway...

2034 World Cup

Better for TV anyway Australian world cup have been terrible for timings.another winter WC will be crap though

2034 World Cup

…………more outrage……………Gpg demographics suggest most won’t know what time of day it will be let alone be in a fit state to remember all the teams………….

2034 World Cup

At least we know that international football has got at least another 10 years of life then. Might be the tournament that finally kills it off.

The Qatar World Cup didn’t turn out too bad (despite my protestations beforehand)

2034 World Cup

Not that I like FIFA but if only Saudi submit a bid what are they supposed to do?
It's a poor reflection on them though that they can't make it sufficiently attractive to attract bids. Much like the Olympics I guess, the demands are too prohibitive.

2034 World Cup

Why wouldn't England bid for this? Because the RoW would vote for KSA?

A. Yeah probably as KSA would just thrown money at the RoW in order to host it

It can't be in Europe

2034 World Cup

It can't be in Europe
It couldn't be anywhere

FIFA restricted the hosting eligibility to Asia or Oceania after it made the controversial decision to host the 2030 World Cup on three continents (Africa, Europe and South America).

2034 World Cup

Feck FIFA, it's all about da money.
For me the magic of the World Cup died sometime in the 90's, It could be held in the arse crack of a Blue whale for all I care.
That's a new one on me. Really made me laugh. Mind you might be preferable to S A

Quite clever by FIFA to guarantee it being in either of those continents, and Australia probably were paid off, or given some guarantees, and meant no other reasonable country could bid.

2034 World Cup

Next you will be telling me Neves will go on loan to Geordies ,,,

2034 World Cup

Bit of a shame. I think the Aussies would put on a good tournament
Yes, they would have done, sport mad and it would have helped the development of [Mens] football immensely over here.

2034 World Cup

Wow i'll be 43 by then. It's a real shame, the Aussies would have put on a fantastic world cup but were clearly paid to not put in a bid.

This feels a bit like the beginning of the end doesn't it. The fairytale sport that we all grew up with is being sold off day by day, you'll need Saudi money soon just to watch a Premier League game never mind a World Cup.

I'm sure Ronaldo will take a lot of thanks for this too. The future looks so grim for our sport.

Then England should have bid in order for the ROW to financially benefit from the Saudis hosting this WC.

All I would say, is football hasn't been a 'fairytale' sport for years. The beginning of the end came decades ago. It's the reason no-one cares about cups anymore, entry to games costs ££££s and grounds are filled with plastic supporters in corporate boxes, players are paid upwards of £250k per week (double that in Saudi) and clubs are owned by questionable people.

You are right about Saudi money, but we're nearer the end of the end than the beginning of it. I gave up caring about international football over 20 years ago. And the first chance the PL 'elite' have another chance to join some kind of Saudi 'super league', they'll be off.

Yes agreed, the Super League will be the end. I think you're right on the above too, i've just been ignoring it because of our own Brentford fairytale.

My AI body will be at it as I can’t stand that level of heat… my AI will also drink for me as my body will be f***ed by then

I think Australia were seen off, by FIFA allowing less than a month to consider and prepare a bid for a World Cup happening in 11 years time.
A lot easier when you've (probably) been warned in advance and don't operate in a democracy where these sorts of things need to be costed and assessed for political merit, etc.

@Alex asked what are they supposed to do. Well, give everyone time to bid if you want it to hear all the good possible bids. the 2018 and 2022 process was futile for England but it was a five year process and nearly two years from formal bid to decision ... and there were bids from all over the world.

Seems even clearer now that playing the 2030 world cup on three continents was contrived so that it was Asia's (i.e. the Middle East's) turn again already in 2034.

2038 would in theory be North america's turn again - would it really go to the US (and neighbours) for the third time in most of our lifetimes? I reckon they'll relax the "rotation" once again following this one so that South America can bid again. Those three 2030 games will be the showcase for a 2038 bid.

But at least we'll be favourites to host in 2042. Unless we get beaten to it by some dodgy UEFA members with political ambitions... Azerbaijan? or Russia again?

2034 World Cup

Along with many, I find myself less concerned with international football as the years pass. It would be amusing should Israel qualify and subsequently FIFA contrive some reason to ban them on the Saudi's behalf. Cue massive rows and many countries refuse to attend on principle. The FA have no principles so England will be there.

2034 World Cup

I thought it was sh*t tbh. Passionless football matches.
There was lots about the Qatar World Cup which wasn’t great but not sure about passionless football matches. The South Americans fans, Arabs (including Saudi’s and Iranians) and the North Africans sides (especially Moroccan fans) from afar made a racket at the games.

The passionless football games mainly involved countries from Europe.

2034 World Cup

Any word on Summer or Winter World Cup ?

2034 World Cup

Don't think it was highest bidder
They must have bought off all the rivals
Only 1 bid was submitted

Also most of grounds not even built

So why announce it 10 years before ?
