The number of goalscorers for us this season in the league.

Elder, MacDonald, Poole and Bean.

Just interested to know whether people think this is a concern or that it doesn't matter as long they all get a hatful each?

My initial thoughts are that we need more goalscorers, especially as I don't see Bean getting more than 5 and Elder more than 10. Trouble is I can't see who else will.

And yes I am aware that Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo scored about 90% of Man Utd's goals last season and they won the double but I don't think it's quite the same!

I van see the following chipping in with a few:
Sam Wood, Marvin Williams, Kevin O'Connor, Ryan Dickson

I would like to see our centre backs getting on the scoresheet from set plays. something is obviously not working there.

scotty mentioned this last year.
williams has had chances (and has scored in the cup) but he just hasn't converted them, which is incredibly frustrating. macclesfield was a prime example of where we should have won 4-0 but williams missed a sitter, newton did... and one other who i can't remember.
striker and creative midfielder (we can't realistically go half the season without our only creative midfielder and still expect automatic promotion) need asap. get on it andy!

As Wilson is generally left at the back, it would be harsh to blame him. Bennett has gone close a couple of times, I think; and you wouldn't generally expect more than 3 or 4 a season from a CB, so with about a third of the season gone it's a bit early to identify that as a problem: 1 league goal between 3 of the MF is more worrying IMHO

Elder hit the post from about 10 yards out:sorted:

says it all, we need to be getting goals from all over, centre backs need to be getting at least 5 each. midfieders should have a target of 10 each with strikers 15-20 cant see CM or NE getting close to that im afraid

it took me a while, and thanks for bearing with me, but I have listed below our goalscorers away from GP in the league this season, I even managed to get the time to put them in the correct order, feel free to advise of any obvious errors, it did take a long time after all;

Poole
Bean

It is a concern re goals because we do not have enough "potential" scorers. Still amazes me that one potential goalscorer we have isn't getting a look - in at the moment either starting a game or as a sub, and that is KOC. With Elder not able to play due to suspension this Saturday, why not give him the chance to resurrect his place in the team?

Well done on such an endeavour. I have made just a small amendment to really bring this stat into light. It is a huge concern, as people has said before, teams that go up usually have a partnership banging them in with the support of other team mates. It is an issue that needs addressing.
I have also spent many hours scouring the stats to find out the games in this current league campaign where we have scored more than 1 goal.

4-0
2-1
3-1

3 out of 14 games - is that really good enough? certainly we can't consider promotion until we rectify this matter. Yes you can bring on the 1-0 to the Arsenal argument but we have now gone 6 games without a clean sheet so if we are going to get points we need to get it in the net!! and a bit more regularly.

And yet I keep reading that we play flowing football and create chances. I can remember about 2 from last night, one from Shrewsbury, none at Aldershot and 2/3 at Notts County. We simply don't create enough chances in a game and our football is laboured most of the time.

You are looking at it in a selective way to try and make a point.

Last night we were poor, no excuses, but the game with Shrewsbury was very tight with few chances at either end and we created dozens of chances in the home games against Macclesfield and Morecambe. I don't think Notts County created much eithar, albeit with a lot of possession, and we got a tad lucky at Aldershot.

No-one is saying there isn't room for improvement - no-one I know anyway - but we have played a lot of good football this year, the key is how we can play it more often.

Yes i agree its a concern too, but let's not forget how far the team have come from last season under Butcher... at the start of the season i think play-offs would have been the realistic target and automatic promotion a possibility,

we still haven't got the cash to go out and buy loads of quality players, the ones we've brought in have helped the defence and midfield, maybe its more difficult to find goalscoring wingers and forwards that we can afford?

Macdonald looks to be an absolutely superb signing but obviously we need goals from the midfield.... and even a few from the defence, with Martin Allen - Sodje, O'Connor, Turner and Frampton all chipped in with a few goals!

the question is who at the moment is going to provide the goals from midfield or defence?!

.

No I'm not. I wasn't at those 2 games (M & M) where we created chances so I'm basing it on the games I've been to, I'm not being selective at all.
