A GPG Cull?

What does everyone think of this idea :eek:

re http://www.comeonyouspurs.com/index.php?showtopic=152913, the final data cut has been taken, the Recent (the fours months since February 2nd 2017) and Lifetime PPD (Posts Per Day) calculated, and a server load analysis has been performed by the gnomes, who will enact the cull some time in the next few days. Several hundred active accounts will be suspended.

The parameters the gnomes selected for this window, as being the best balance between allowing as many COYSers as possible to 'enjoy' the window, with the desire to keep the server available with as little interruption as possible, are:

•COYSers who have a 'Sponsor' badge are safe.

•Those who joined the site since April 1st, and who have regularly accessed their account, are safe, as we recognise that it can take a little time for people to evolve from lurker to contributor.

•Those who have NOT accessed their account since April 1st will have those accounts suspended, regardless of PPD.

•Those with a Recent PPD > 0.3 (approximately 2 posts per week) are safe.

•Those with a Recent PPD < 0.14 (around 1 post per week) will have their accounts suspended.

•Those with a Recent PPD between 0.14 and 0.3, who have a Lifetime PPD > 0.5 are safe.

•Those with a Recent PPD between 0.14 and 0.3, who have a Lifetime PPD < 0.5 will have their accounts suspended.

If you find yourself without access after the cull (which will be completed in the next day or so), please bear the following in mind:

(a) Re-activation of culled accounts is NOT an automated process, so if you are interested in returning to COYS after the window has closed, please EMAIL [email protected] on or after SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 3rd 2017 requesting an account re-activation, and we'll take care of it within 48 hours.

(b) As happens after every cull, there will be a few people who will be upset/bitter/angry when they realise that their choice to not take an active part in the life of the COYS community means they won't have access to the forum for a little while. The parameters of the cull have been well publicised to all COYSers, via several emails and a pinned thread. No one is a victim of this process. If your account is closed, please don't send us pleading/abusive/feigning ignorance emails. Thanks.

Just interested in other forums' policies and that one seems to be: if you don't contribute then you're out. Which I would have thought would lead to a lower level of quality of contribution (e.g. "Let's count to 1,000,000")

Would a cull of those who haven't visited the site for a year (or two, or eighteen months, or whatever...) be of any benefit to anyone?

I think any cull should be linked to lack of visits over a long period, rather than lack of posts.

(Possibly coupled with incorrect use of grammar when posting. :fishing:)

Why are they doing it? :confused: So if you've been on holiday for 2 months but have been posting for 15 years your account will be suspended...

There are many 'browsers' on this site who post only sometimes (and I don't mean Spark) and to exclude them would be against what I think our fanbase is about, personally...which is that we're all in the same boat and support the club together.

I don't believe the GPG would ever consider such a thing, but it's interesting to note how others operate. Seemingly because their server can't cope :confused:

According to this I'm a "lurker". Is that a bad thing? I mean why should I have to join in with your inane shouting at each other. It is much more fun just watching. And a healthier and safer pursuit than dogging.

No, that's the point of the thread. A certain forum is having a cull, but the GPG isn't following suit.

You can now get back to lurking and leave the inane shouting to those that want to shout. :shrug:

Please don't. Spurs forums may pick & choose their members, but we're still trying to grow our fanbase & the GPG is a valued source of information/gossip & everything else. (The recent Dean Smith interview was excellent). The mainstream has improved with us being in the Championship, but we're still basically 'lil ole Brentford', the London 'afterthought' club. (Examples:- Evng Std thinks only premier teams + QPHa + F**ham exist.
Last week, BBC Sport managed to omit us from the confirmed list of Championship clubs for next season, and so on.)

I'm here at least one every day. I read everything and would be lost without the GPG to get info on what's happening to my club.
Very rearely post though - only if I've got something useful to say that hasn't been said already.
If you're thinking of suspending me I guess I'll have to start posting useless crap to keep myself safe. Would have thought that there's enough of this already without me adding to it though.

I was replying the first post of this thread. The COYS post does mention quotas and it looked like you were suggesting the same here.
Now that you've confirmed that there will be no quotas I'll shut up and go back to only lurking ?
