Accrington Stanley

There is no way Accrington will survive as a full time League club.

As a regular there a couple of seasons back, I was amazed that the Football League actually let them in in the first place..wait until you see the Ground..

As Bee H says in his post, they have more local derbies than the majority of us, it's just they have never had the support and its a very poor working class area..full to the brim with Asians who simply do not go to football matches..

Shame, but I cannot see them surviving.

1 win away from promotion.. hope they do it..

Accrington Stanley

I think money has come there way

They must have taken a record number of away fans to Wycombe last week.
It was more than 99 !!!

they're are losing 2 main players to Rangers on a bosman's next season.. what a joke for the smaller clubs..

I hope they do it, would be a massive achievement.

Accrington Stanley

Won't this be their first ever promotion in the football league since 1921? Their only other promotions have been in non league! Afaik?!

Good luck to them. :)

Accrington Stanley

good luck to them...they.shd beat Stevenage..I can see all 3 winning and Bristol missing out by a point.....cant be many times 85 points doesn't see you up on league two

Great story, I agree, but a different club, though, isn't it? That being the case, you could include Accrington as well, making it their first promotion since the heady First Division days of 1888.

The new club (formed in 1968) uses the old clubs name (formed in late 1890's) It's a link to their former selves but, yes, it is a 'new' football club in terms of their recent history. :)

The original club was "Accrington FC", without the 'Stanley' bit though.

Accrington Stanley

Good luck to them
It's 100 years since the Accrington Pals were near enough wiped out at the Somme.
Would be nice for the town to have something to smile about

Accrington Stanley

Come on Stanley!

Yes, that was my point. Come on Stanley!

Doesn't look good. They'll have to wait another season, unless the play offs are kind to them?! :(

..........................I'll let someone else explain.........................
Tiny clubs are a pain to others in League 1 and League 2, as they bring no travelling fans/ revenue to away games. I remember a League 2 evening game a few years back against Morecambe, when I'm not certain whether the 5 or so people in the Wendy House were home stewards, home fans looking to sit alone in peace and quiet - I don't think they were away fans. There's nothing "romantic" about that for other clubs trying to make ends meet.

Accrington Stanley

feel for them..didn't go up with 85 points...didn't we win league two with about 85?

I'm sorry they missed out on automatic promotion, as I've always had a soft spot for them.

I remember when we played them in our most recent League 2 promotion season and our fans were singing "We are going up..", to which theirs responded "We are staying up...", which earned them a round of applause. Staying in League 2 was the limit of their ambitions at that time.

Chin up, Stanley
Get yourselves to Wembley instead

Accrington Stanley

If they get to Wembley they will be playing a relatively "big" club in Pompey or Plymouth who would bring 30k plus fans compared to circa 6k tops Stanley fans. There will be obvious parallels with the Leicester story. Hope Stanley do it for the little club big club syndrome.

Accrington Stanley

Plymouth v Stanley Final for me, as I hate the other two teams.

Accrington Stanley

I predict it will be AFC Wimbledon v Portsmouth.

Plymouth not on good form they were top at Christmas

Accrington will not be able to pick themselves up after messing up yesterday

Plymouth had a good win yesterday. My son went, as he's at uni there, and said they played well. Not as good as the bees mind. :)

They beat Pompey 2-1 a couple of weeks ago as well, having said that I still fancy Pompey will get past them over two legs.
