Asbeen booked up for us yesterday! Me, bba89 snr, Asbeen & from leeds to bees all on the 9:03 to Preston. £31 return then a further £6 from there. Not too bad. :alcoholic

:sorted: minibus to Blackpool on friday morning. Early start In Accrington then back to Blackpool some time after the game. Should be a good turn out and a good day for the "too big for this league" song as we will have loads there.

Accrington F.C. were one of the original twelve founder members of the Football League. The original town team, Accrington F.C., were amongst the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888, before resigning from the league after just five years. A team called Stanley Villa already existed at the time, named as such because they were based at the Stanley Arms on Stanley Street in Accrington. With the demise of Accrington FC, Stanley Villa took the town name to become Accrington Stanley.

The current Accrington Stanley are seen to hold the legacy of both Accrington F.C. and the old defunct Accrington Stanley.

The town of Accrington may be most famous for the tragic story of the Accrington Pals. Really old-timers, students of WW I and the people of Accrington recall the Accrington Pals the story of whose tragic bravery is well worth reading:

Mike Harding tells the story in his own way in his moving and poignant song.

Smoky town where they were born,
Down in the valley, smoky little streets.
They were pals from childhood days,
Climbing trees and running through the fields.
And they all played together through the turning of the years,
Sharing their laughter, sharing all their fears.
Seasons saw them growing and
Seasons passing turned them round
With the turning, turning, turning years -
The Accrington Pals.

Schooldays' end the lads all went
To work, some spinning, some weaving in the sheds,
On the land or down the pit,
Working hard to earn their daily bread.
And they all went walking up old Pendle Hill,
On Sundays the larks sang high above the dales.
Little Willie Riley played his mandolin and sang,
They were laughing, they were singing then -
The Accrington Pals.

1916 came the call,
"We need more lads to battle with the Hun.
Lads of Lancashire, heed the call,
With God on our side, the battle will soon be won."

Looking forward to this one!

Spent many a good evening at Stanley whilst watching their progress from Northern Premier Unibond to the Football League, saw them seventeen times in all, including away trips to Halifax, Ashton United and Vauxhall Motors..

The only negative I can see is that this being January and the chances that the game will be frozen off.. its a bloody long way!!!

Look forward to a REAL non-league ground though!

Anyone else getting the 17.29 direct back to Preston?? saves ****ing about on buses to Blackburn etc... Have a 40 minute wait at Preston but better than being stuck on a bus....

Tickets are still not bad at £67 return or £69 first class :eek:

A cab from Accrington to Preston wouldn't cost that much I reckon between four.
