He even went on line to check if presumably what he was considering was legal, utter madness or unbelievable arrogance I know not which.
I did read that he has been struggling for a couple of years with the death of his best mate, an ex pro footballer who committed suicide, not that it's mitigating circumstances in anyway but maybe the man has demons we don't fully understand.
Either way it's at least two families lives ruined and his life is all but over.

Not really, just was deemed not to have been proven beyond reasonable doubt.

He's a **** who tried to make out he was being falsely accused for as long as possible before admitting the lesser charges having realised he'd be convicted on them but still put her and her family through a trial trying to get off with the more serious ones. All the divs who predictably named/abused the victim on social media, and the ones still defending him, are ***** too.

Let me make it clear that I find what he has done deplorable and he deserves what's coming. What I don't get though is that a 15 year old girl is allowed to end up in a position where she might meet and ultimately sleep with a footballer. I remember a movie coming on on Channel 5, or 5 USA or whatever the other day based on real events in Australian waters. Young couple went there for a honeymoon and the husband drowned the wife on their first trip out to sea.
He got 4.5 years, suspended after 1.5 years. He was originally charged with murder, but on guilty plea it was reduced to manslaughter.

When i said "Murder" i was more thinking about what happens here a hell of a lot - Murder charges being reduced to man-slaughter and then the offenders get a much lesser sentence.

Down here (not sure if you have the same problem) but we have a lot of "coward punch" attacks - where you can be minding your own business and some ***** will come and smack you in the head while aren't looking - most of these assualts start off as a murder charge only to be reduced later on

You have summed it up perfectly.

Although it is controversial I have always felt there is a grey area between Jimmy Saville and his lust for babies and the cruelty that went with it and a 70's pop star who had young "up for it" girls throwing themselves at them. It doesn't make it right but you can see how someone might think it is based upon the fact these girls could (in some instances) be sexually active already and the ones pushing for it. In this case the bloke had a string of women desperate for the touch of a footballer and by all accounts he exploited this to the full as most of them do but he knew exactly what he was doing with this underage girl. Why fekkin do it, you have dozens of women desperate for the celebrity lifestyle who are queuing up for you so why take advantage of a child.

She may be far from an angel and far from innocent for all we know and is smelling blood and his wallet, but he has completely destroyed his own life. As long as he hasn't completely wasted his fortune on gambling and women then he has enough left to just go into hibernation for the rest of his life. He has earned another 3M since this all blew up in the last year, he must have earned 10's millions in his career so far.

It is slightly off topic but that article refers to manslaughter charges as the result of two people getting into a fight and someone being knocked down/knocked out or hitting the ground after a punch. I think the law is the same the world over on this one, in most cases nobody is trying to kill someone and they are having a punch up which has gone tragically wrong.

The judge accepted a majority verdict as they couldn't reach a conclusion. I believe the charge he was given guilty for was a 10-2. The not guilty charge there are question marks over which is why they couldn't prove it happened. The rest seems pretty clear though...

Think there's a difference between an act she was alleged to have committed and an act he was found to have committed. Without trivialising it, perhaps it was about who was in the driving seat (no pun intended).

Having done jury service on a case with some similarities to this one (although both parties were under 16) I found the phrase "beyond reasonable doubt" really influenced people's thinking. Was there really enough clear evidence to believe one party over the other... it can be tough.

Thanks for that Nic - reading into this the judge said previously that he would only accept a unanimous verdict on both charges but the BBC reported that he was found guilty 10-2 on the first charge - not sure what changed or if the BBC have it wrong.

I never really knew much about him, apart from the buzz in 2009-10 that led people to think it was a travesty that he didn't play in the 2010 WC. Seems he was never in the ultra "football celebrity" clique.
