Couldn'y help noticing that they had the same design as our lovely away kit but had substituted the brown for graphite grey and the orange sash with a white one.
Would they have won at the Bernabeu if they'd played in our kit?

I'd venture that Ajax's team last night would fetch more than RM's on the open market right now. They've started producing some good young talent (Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt), it's a shame they always lose them before they've really hit the heights but it's their operating model and has been for 30 yrs.
I don't think there'll be a stampede for Bale this summer, think at times this Madrid side have carried him.

Problem is, though, that the "Big Clubs" will now descend like vultures and dismember this side.
Same happened with the brilliant young Monaco team which got to the semi-finals of the CL in 2016/17, including beating Spurs home and away, and won the League by 8 points from PSG in second:

Although only a couple of seasons ago, they've since lost Fabinho (56 appearances), Moutinho (52), B.Silva (58), Carillo (31), Bakayoko (51), Germain (60), Mendy (39), Lemar (55), Mbappe (44) and Toure (27).
Which is why this season they are only two places above relegation in 16th, albeit with a six point cushion:

....I don't think....very much like Brentford....they mind exchanging their young talented players for lots of cash.....I do think however this policy probably annoys the odd supporter or three.

Even if it leads to relegation? (1st two seasons ago, 2nd the season after and currently 16th this season)
I don't think they're like BFC, club or fans, since they are much better resourced than us, and are currently falling away, rather than getting ever stronger.
Besides, who exactly do you mean by "they"?
If it's the owners, they are 2/3rds owned by a Russian multi-billionaire and 1/3 by their royal family, so hardly need the money:

Think it may have had something to do with emotionally appointing TH as coach last summer, last I heard they were going to re-appoint Jardem to sort this mess out.
Wonder how this season would've panned out for the 2 other clubs affected by TH declining the Villa job and choosing to go back to Monaco, AV and Brentford?

Had they kept the players I listed in #16, I don't think it would have mattered whether they had Thierry Henry or Henry the Hoover managing them, they wouldn't now be dodging relegation at the bottom of the table.
And Jardim was re-appointed at the end of January, since when their results have picked up, tbf:

Monaco used to quite fascinate me, principality with an itinerant population, crowds of 4000 in a 17000 stadium but would always sit at the top table in their lg and get to the latter stages of the CL. Wonder if the conveyer belt of talent self-funding this club would ever dry up what would happen, perhaps we'll be finding out in the next couple of yrs.

One of the explanations for previous success out of proportion to their (often paltry) support was that players who signed for them didn't have to pay tax on their earnings in the tax haven of Monaco.
Therefore they could "afford" to sign players whom other French clubs could not.
However, afaik the French Football Federation brought in a rule which "levelled the playing field", otherwise ASM would no longer have been allowed to compete in FFF competitions.
Which is why they can no longer attract, or hold onto, players who in the past would have been happy to sign/stay.

I'm not sure I'd describe Monaco as having "an itinerant population", I'd guess the stable working population is still around 20,000, though. There is a tax agreement between France and Monaco, where French citizens have to pay French tax; clearly, that doesn't apply to non-French players. Many people working in Monaco live outside, the more monied in Èze, La Turbie and surrounds, but a lot of the workers commute in from Menton and Nice. I would guess that, although the Niçois would support the "Gym", many French locals make a trip into the principality for their football. Their Russian owner has extracted vast sums of money from the club in the last few season, which is hurting.
