Alan Green

Loud-mouth smug know-all, or mighty fount of knowledge and sayer of truth?

Discuss.

(PS: I reckon the former. :nono: )

Alan Green

As he's managed to wind up Sir Fergie numerous times by saying a few home truths about the "biggest club in the world" (to an extent that Fergie refuses to speak to him) the man's a fecking hero to me.

Alan Green

The former. No.1 for Room 101. Loathsome self-obsessed oaf of a commentator. End of. I'd sooner listen to Jonathan Pearce and that's saying something. Build a bonfire, build a bonfire, put the Green man on the top............. self-opinionated, smug..... why am I wasting my time on that prat?

Alan Green

I think he's great.

His commentary is second to non on the radio IMHO. He conveys more of what's going on than anyone I've ever heard.

I do sometimes wish he would be less opionated but I think he talks more sense than most who have made a career out of football commentary/punditary.

Alan Green

He's a complete idiot. Totally predictable. THinks he's being controversail. Loves to slag things off without giving them a chance. Belittles small club supporters in the same way that there i institutional racism, he almost doesnt realise hes doing it.

Jonathans Pearce's shouting commentating style is not for me but he has an infinitely rounder knowledge of the game, this is clearly because he reads up on it because he is interested in lower league footy and realises it doesnt all revolve around the premiership, Green actually said the other day, 'i dont know what goes on in the lower leagues as I dont have a chance to go to the games' what you cant read a newspaper ? ie he doesnt care.

Only one thing is worse than Alan Green, and that is Peter Drury.

Actually there is another, Mikey Bee, but thats a different story!

Alan Green

I detest him.

Is he ever wrong? Self opinionated ****.

He claims not to be a Manchester United supporter - yeah right. His hatred of Liverpool is prety obvious too.

Lastly, he can't hide is glee when England underperform - yet has the cheek to call us "We". Why don't you **** off and comentate on your spectacular Northern Ireland team?

Why do Radio 5 have a habit of having such irritating tossers hosting their phone in - Mellor, Littlejohn and now Green?

Jonathan Pearce every time for me.

Alan Green

I think BBC London is quite good on the live commentary. Just less Arsenal bias Lofty and it would be better.

!

He even claims to support Macclesfield so there's no excuse.

Alan Green

IMHO I think he is excellent. If the game is dull he will say it is. Opinionated? Commentators SHOULD have opinions rather than the Trevor Brooking type analyst who never gets down off that fence.

The Beesworld "away" matches team are my favourite though;)

Alan Green

Alan Green is a liverpool supporter, but is the best football commentator since Peter Jones.

Worst one - John Motson and the late great Arthur Montford

i agree totally, up to the Peter Drury bit. I'd never noticed him being a ****, particularly!! But alan green makes my blood boil

Exactly. He's the best in the business by a mile...

Its this type of "being on the same wavelength" that makes us such a good team folks.....lol lol

Alan Green

I think he's the business - no-one else can touch his commentating although he is slightly annoying on 606. Bring back Danny Baker FFS!!!

Alan Green

Defo a Liverpool fan - did you hear the hurt and anger in his voice when commentating on Neville "waving hello to his dad in the Liverpool end" after Rio's last min winner... Not sure he would have been quite so obviously outraged had Kewell done a similar thing.

Alan Green

I read he's a Liverpool fan, I just can't believe it. Perhaps he tries so hard to disguise it that it comes accross as a dislike for his own team and admiration for 'United'. I still hate him ... especially his lack of knowledge and disregard for teams lower down the pecking order (i.e. us). Although as Brentford Bob says commentary style is very good - he makes even the dullest of games exciting. Maybe it is my hatred for the whinging Northern Irish accent that has clouded my judgement.

worst commentator is Clive Tyldesly....he has been living off one annecdote for 6 years and never fails to cram it into his commentary

Alan Green

:imwith: the guy's a moron, constantly talking about his 'mates' at United, "Scholesy", "Giggsy" etc etc :yuck:

Alan Green

Alan Green makes me laugh. Whenever he's on I can't wait to hear him say "disgraceful" in that hobby-horse manner he has. Him and the squeaky-voiced club-collector crack me up.

I find that very surprising if true. He claims that nobody knows who he supports - however with his apparent bias towards Man Utd and being Northern Irish ...

He hates Man Utd, but hides it quite well. Fergie still refuses to speak to the bloke and the BCC in general over comments he made some years back. :fishing:

For once i agree! :sorted:

Anybody who slags of Gary Neville is OK in my view.:sorted:

Alan Green

This git is definitely a Liverpool supporter. He gets absolutely furious whenever one of the team drops a ballock, in much the same way as he used to whenever David James dropped one of his famous goolies when playing for Green's beloved England." A disgraceful error by James!"
I hate the way he affects support for the lower leagues when he allows a supporter from Yeovil or somewhere, a token 45 seconds on his poxy phone-in,and then continually takes the **** out of Lawrenson for being sent to cover a Cup tie at Darlington.Darlington - very amusing.
I particularly enjoyed it when a complaint was held up against him for attributing pidgin English ("me no likee") to,I think, Eric Djemba-Djemba.
You can hear Alan Green's views on Premiership football in the north-west every Saturday on Radio 5 - that's when he's not off pot-hunting and glory seeking with the British rowing team.
Cu nt.:banghead:
Rant over.:)

Alan Green

Listening to Sun's 6-0-6 on the Listen Again feature... Green is getting a pasting by some callers.

I think he's a good commentator, but he does get my goat sometimes.

Alan Green

So Bolton are banning Radio 5 Live are they? Ok, it's a good thing that we don't have to listen to the whingeing Allardryce fr a while, but I've long since wondered why clubs don't get penalised for this sort of thing. Presumably, the Premiership has a contract to fulfill so why does a club think it is able to take these arbitrary decisions. Ferguson has been doing it for years. Start docking them points I say.

I personally don't like Alan Green but it is good to have someone opinionated to listen to. I agree with the Times article, Premiership fans in particular seem so possessed by their club that they hate everything around them. Sometimes, wouldn't it be nice for people to just enjoy the footie a bit?

I think you will find that Ferguson himself refuses interviews with the BBC, but the club still fulfill its obligation, by sending out Queiroz to do the aftermatch stuff.

I know but that's still not acceptable in my book.

It is if you have to be interviewed by Garth Crooks. lol

It doesn't surprise me for one minute that that fat hairy **** of a "journalist" Martin Samuel would side with Alan Green on this issue. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for people having an opinion, but it's the self-righteous, sanctimonious toss that comes out of these two peoples mouths that I can't stand - and the fact that they take advantage of their respective positions to force it on the public. I could take it a little better if either of them even looked like they had ever donned a pair of trainers in their lives, let alone a pair of football boots and shirt. If truth be known, I prefer journalists to report the facts, and football commentators to simply tell me what is going on in the game. If I want an opinion on something, I'll ask for one from someone whose opinions I value - not read/listen to some loudmouths view (an often incorrect view, in my opinion) on things that has been forced upon me. As you might be able to tell Samuel & Green rank 1 & 2 respectively in my people I love to hate list.

Will someone please let this man know that the phrase
"Just under 9 minutes left for play" is driving me

What's wrong with "just under 9 minutes of normal time left" or "just under 9 minutes to play"?

Alan Green

Delighted to hear this news, he has a very high opinion of himself and, like Jimmy Armfield, is some 20 years out of date with his opinions

Alan Green

I agree he has a high opinion of himself, but I hope he is not leaving 5live altogether. I am not bothered about 606 but he is my favourite as a commentator, very good at keeping up with hectic goalmouth action and calls things as he sees them. What I cannot bear are the sit-on-the-fence commentators who see a decision that is clearly wrong but only call it 'questionable'. At least you cannot accuse Green of that!

He is a conceited, rude, gutter journo. The way he backed Blackburn fans when they were verbally destroying Steve Keane was disgusting. Every game he criticizes referees with the luxury off his commentary position and replays. Just a bully in my opinion

Alan Green

Green has two faults

1) HE knows NOTHING about football outside the premiership and even seems to be proud of this. For goodness sake you think as one of the most important football voices on the radio he'd do some research. I stopped listening to 606 when I realised EVERY conversation he had with a fan outside the premiership he wasnt able to engage with and would contribute nothing

2) He seems to HATE going to football matches, every single time there is some 'idiot' standing in front of him, some ' disgraceful' decision, some 'stupid' action by a player or some 'ridicuclous' pa system drowning out his self-serving extreme statements

What's his GPG user name please.......there are several dozen who tick all of these boxes.

Absolutely brilliant commentator for reading a goal though. No one matches him on Radio IMHO. Quite brilliant.
