Albert Dixon

Albert and his wife were long-term season ticket holders, in the paddock at Griffin Park. His wife sadly died a couple of years ago but are there any ex-paddock regulars who remember him? He's about 80 now but still very sprightly and a serious Bees nut with a collection of memorabilia and programmes going back a long time. They lived in Twickenham, in Albert Road!, in the house he was born in.

I remember Albert very well.

In the 1960's we went to away games together with John Nethaway and John Hawley. Also at home matches we stood in the paddock swapping ends so we were always at the end the Bees were attacking.

One away match I particularly remember was a frosty and foggy Saturday trip to Mansfield Town. Bert had bought a minivan but did not have a full licence so John Nethaway drove. We won 2-0 I think with Johnny Brooks scoring both goals in the only two touches he had during the game!

On the way home we were hit by a car driving the opposite direction and it smashed the drivers window. For the remainder of the journey we were all frozen and the hitch-hiker we had given a lift to got out at the first services!!!

Good to know Bert is still enjoying these fantastic Prem days after so many years of bad times and worse!!!

This thread is such a coincidence and you must be psychic jlove as I was only thinking this morning of posting a thread about Albert myself. Just to add some more to it. I regularly bump in to Albert in Twickenham as he lives not far from me. Naturally we always chat about the Bees (he also loves his cricket). I've also been to his house and his collection of everything Bees is amazing especially his catalogued collection on programmes going back to the sixties. I remember seeing a signed photo of himself his wife and Paul Bence with some sort of presentation on the GP pitch that really took me back. The real tragedy in his life was the sudden death of his beloved wife whilst they were sitting together at home one evening. They both lived and breathed Brentford and were inseparable at both home and away games. Her death had a profound affect on Albert and he never went to a game again as in his words he couldn't bare being there without her. I tried to persuade him to come to the Gtech and although very tempted said he just couldn't without her. However I bumped in to him yesterday and he told me that he has been invited by a friend to hospitality for the Man City game and he said after much soul searching that he'll go. I was quite moved and delighted for him that after so long he's going to see his second love in his life in the flesh again. If anyone remembers him or knows him make sure to say hello to Albert a real Bees supporting stalwart.

I don't know Albert but reading what you've said, about him not wanting to go without his wife, is something I completely understand. I'm pleased he decided to take up the offer for the Man City game; I hope he isn't too sad about being without her and that he enjoys the game. Oh and, of course, I hope the bees do the business, for him. :)

Thanks @RodBee and @TW11bee. It’s my ticket he’s got and my son is taking Albert in with him. I’m now in France so can’t make the game, so, over a couple of weeks persuaded him to go. I wanted a true fan to take it.

Albert will be in the Railway lounge, South Stand seating in front of Phil Giles’ box, if anyone is there and wants to say hello. If anyone wants to meet him outside before or after the game, PM me. He was determined to travel independently on the bus and said he’d plan to be outside entrance B around 2… but I’ll remind him it’s a later KO on Sunday.

I’m not in direct contact with Mike Sullivan, he’s usually wandering around the lounge, so if anyone is, it would be good to let him know.

I shall be in The Railway Lounge at some point post-match and will look out for Albert. It`ll be good to catch up with him after so many years. I`ll let Mike S know as well.

Thanks P, I’ll let my son know to keep him there post-match. It took me and others a bit to persuade him and I don’t want to pressure him too much… until he’s in the stadium.

I used to live (1970’s!) a couple of streets away and my sister’s best friend lived opposite for many years, until she died a couple of years ago, and she was a good neighbour and friend of Albert’s. He’s a lovely man.

I'm in the Dugout is it possible to pop up to the Railway to say hello to him on the day,?

Albert went to the game and took a picture of himself with his wife, so she could share it with him, incredibly touching.

He stayed for the parade around the pitch but had to leave to get to Church after that. @Peter G my son assumed you’d be very occupied on the pitch.

I’m sure he had a fantastic day, topped off with a win. My son took pictures of him and the game on his own phone, so he’ll have his memories captured. I won’t be able to visit him for quite a while but I’ll do it before the beginning of next season.

How lovely. So glad he went and was able to experience a fantastic atmosphere and all round day. wasn't able to catch up with him at the game mainly because of all the post match goings on but will pop round to his house to have a chat soon.
