In todays News of the Screws,so it must be true. :rolleyes: " Brentford striker Alex Rhodes 22, is a target for premiership clubs - despite playing only one full game for the Bees. Portsmouth and Charlton and Championship Wolves sent scouts to Tranmere yesterday".

There is something about Alex , a certain raw quality that makes me feel that he really could make a real striker whether it be the next Nathan Tyson or even Thierry Henry.

He needs to be given the chance to play and I think that that chance might come soon.

He reminds me of loads of non league players who find it hard to adapt to life in league footie.

NOW article sounds like an MA wind up to me..............

On performances to date he is heading back to non league not the premiership IMHO.

Couldn't agree more, I don't think he'll make the grade.
He's not that young anymore either..

He has pace and a direct attitude, and I hope he can make it at our level at least, but if he can't be a regular in our team by the end of this season, non-league is more likely than a higher division.

As we don't have a regular reserve team, I don't know where any other clubs would have seen enough of him to be interested. Agree with the idea that it was probably a MA attempt for publicity

He reminds me of Marcus Bent a lot and I know without a doubt that this young man will be a premiership player within 3 yrs from now.
A quality player who is still very young and hungry to move on.

needs to work on his touch and general reading of the game, but i've got a lot of time for rhodesy...

What ever happens to him, we will have the memory of the cracking goal he scored against Bournemouth, in the final game of last season. :)

That goal was quite brilliant!

Will always have a chance because of his pace, but for me his first touch lets him down too often. Still the last time we picked up a pacy but technically raw forward, who seemed a little bit old not have stepped up from non-league before, he did ok.....

....didn't he Lloyd? :D

What pace, outsped by 438 year old Andy Legg at Posh and Bailey at Chesterfield etc etc. Not knocking the guy but he has no pace! Lloyd didn't take a year to aclimatise. Slight rant over! ;)
Anyone want to believe this NOTW story is....... :nono:

Spot on there mate the marcus that left us was average at best(except for his performance at norwich which imho was awesome) but his quality soon became apparent once he started to play at a higher level.

I thought i had to bring this thread to the top again !

It has to be said.. that this boy made a massive impact on the game against Bristol.

Soon as he came on, their right back was chasing shadows and the way he skips around defenders with his nippy feet is a delight to watch.

He scores the winning goal against Bournemouth last season with a majestic bit of skill and a superb strike and cooly strokes home the winning penalty in the FA Cup on TV to an audience WORLDWIDE and despite having the distraction of Bristol fans in his face.... Schoolboy dreams or what !!

Now on 2 occasions in the last 6 months Alex has caused the wildest on pitch celebrations we have had in years :sorted: lol lol

NO pace your having a laugh, did you not see him skin the Bristol city RB. He gave him a head start, caught up with him, turned round to him and said see you later then left him for dead. As has been said funny how he's been the hero on two occasions, in the very few games he's played. The saying give the lad a chance springs to mind.

I agree. A little raw, and does not always make the right decision, but always dangerous and has the making of a very good player indeed.

This guy cost us £10,000-£15,000 - has hardly played any games as first choice, but has been directly responsible for earning the club £16,000 for winning the F.A. Cup first rd tie against Bristol City with his cooly slotted pen, £75,000 for the televisual rights for the game v. Hinkley. Oh and I almost forgot securing League 1 football for the Bees this season. Not bad for a sub! Well done Alex and thanks go to Wally for getting him in.

He cost £7,500, to be fair he has looked too lightweight particularly in the early part of the season. The reason he outpaced Jamie Smith so often was something to do with the game being 110 minutes long.

Not quite.

(A) Other players scored penalties on Thursday night and other players managed to see us through to penalties. Yes, he certainly scored the winning penalty and took it with such coolness.

(B) Yes, he scored the winning goal v Bournemouth, but we'd have still stayed up if we'd lost that game! The whole of the season ended up with the final result of staying up, not just Alex's goal in that game, albeit that it was such a tremendous relief and joy at the same time when he scored that goal and that goal is still my screen saver!

The lad is clearly a more than decent prospect for the future, but football's about 11 men and not just the odd game here and there. I certainly hope that he continues to perform well for the Bees over a long period of time and go from strength to strength, but such bold statements are a little OTT in my opinion.

Let's give the lad all the support that we can, but let's not get carried away at this early stage in his career.

I like watching this young man play football. When ever I have seen him come on as a sub he reminds a bit of Tore Andre Flo (I think thats his name) who always seemed to come on as a sub for Chelsea in European games. The amount of times that I have seen Alex come on the pitch and start creating opportunities and, more importantly for me, taking shots and trying to score goals is amazing. This guy has got to be one of the young players we have who has massive potential in terms of what he can achieve for this club and also for other clubs when he finally gets bought.
